Could the New World Order conspiracy theory really be true?

Could it be true that there is a global elite out there that want to create an oligarchy one world government and do away with sovereign nations? That they want to eliminate 80% of the worlds population and then control the remaining population in large mega cities?

Even if it is true that there are global elitists out there planing on doing this ... is it even possible to do such a thing?

I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but this is just a thought that came to mind.
