how do i eliminate pet odor from my home?

my husband and i, along with our one year old son, just rented a newly renovated home. the owners used to live there and breed dogs. apparently they kept several in the house and had to remove all carpeting from the entire house due to odor and fleas. they now have laminate flooring throughout. when we first moved in they had mothballs in every room to further "eliminate" pet odor. now the scent of those is fading and all we smell is an awful dog odor. the scent seems to be in the walls also. it is even making our clothes stink !! what can we do to eliminate this without moving out ??
