cleansing my crystal gem?

i bought a new crystal gem , but i dunno how to cleanse it and charge it ! , my friend told me to wash it with water and soap but i didnt do it cuz i dont believe its the right way! . the only thing i do is hold it under the sink while making water run down on it ,and putting it under the moon and sun light.

p.s it is too dirty ! and kinda has broken parts! would it actually still work ?and is there a way that i can remove the dirt that is on it or it will still work even tho its not sparkling? i think its a white moonlight one as i read in a book .they are actually 3 crystals stuck together with little crystals around them.

thank you guys but i feel that i did something wrong...i actually washed it with soap and my friend told me shes sure that soap doesnt hurt it !! does it hurt the crystals in anyway ??

Wow you are incredibly lucky to have a cluster crystal of three- as most know three is the most powerful and potent number! Here are the ways I cleanse my crystals and teach others to:

Sun and Water: Hold stone under clear running water for a minute and then place in direct sunlight to dry.
Incense or smudge stick or jostick: Hold the crystal within the smoke for a minute and then leave on a cool piece of cloth to settle for an hour. Sage, Cedar, Sandalwood, and Frankincense are the best to use.
Sound: The vibrations of a clear sound i.e. a high pitched bell, a gong, or a tuning fork will cleanse impurities out of a crystal.
Visualization: Take a deep breath and blow over the crystal imagining that all the negative energies are clearing away and repeat until all the negativity has disippated.
Sea Salt: Use dry sea salt in a small container and bury the stone for 4 hours. Don't use salt water as this can damage softer stones!
Empathic: Placing a crystal on top of a crystal cluster such as a large slab of amethyst will cleanse the crystal as the cluster underneath it will soak up and purity any impurities.
Sympathic: Placing clear quartz crystals around your current crystal will direct impurities away from it.

I will say to you though that dirty or not, it doesn't really matter. It's the metaphysical energy that matters within it. It does help though if light can pass through it (even if it's dull on the other side!) because the theory behind crystals is that they use other energies such as light, and sound, and heat, to function. I've been crystal healing for some time with a high success rate and some of my crystals of angelite (which is white) are quite dirty looking. The truth is that they are cleaner and purer than some of the sparkly, tumbled ones I own!

If you're new, I recommend clear quartz, rose quartz, amethyst, and celestite in wands, bricks, or tumbled stones. They are very useful, and quite generic for beginners. If you need any other help don't hesitate to contact me! In love and light x
