how to replace bulb in a hanging lamp?

I have a hanging lamp which I am trying to replace. However I cannot figure out how to take off the glass cover part. It's composed of a wire hanging down from the ceiling leading to a round metal cover. This then combines with a hollow glass bowl which somehow twists into the metal top. I have two of these and one I can somehow open, which reveals that inside the metal lid there's a metal bar which snaps onto the glass bowl (lift the glass part on one end and it pops right out). However I can't seem to open the other one. Any ideas?
I'm not retarded... there's seriously some trick to this that I don't know.

switched off, take a tool or ladder ( must be safe), replace the bulb, if not possible ask for a mechanic

whitch is friendlier, quieter, makes a better pet?

It is a personal preference. Both can be very noisy. A cockatoo needs more one on one attention, though, where an African Grey does not and will do better if you are not home alot. Cockatoos can be screamers, but Greys, once they start to talk, can be continous talkers, only stopping once in awhile. I have one of each, and would not give up either one. Just make sure you get one that has been handled a lot as a baby. Being hand fed does not mean the bird was handled except at feeding. You want a bird that the breeder has handled other than feeding, you will know it when you see it. Just for your info....ALL birds should have 9 hours of undisturbed sleep each night, in a quiet, darkened room, with his cage covered. This is NOT just for African Greys, it is for all birds. How do I make a parrot stand/gym?

I want to make my own parrot stand/gym but need instructions how. I have already bought the wood, and have lots of toys and other things for it, is there a site that tells you the directions, or could you?

Let your imagination run wild. You can try to copy the gyms you see in the pet stores, but you can also do some experimenting. Some birds like ladders to climb, some would rather have several large perches. Perches at several different levels with toys hanging from them let your bird play with the same toy from different areas and try a few ways of getting to the toy. Ropes are also good for climbing up, walking across, and swinging from.

You can try something really tall so your bird can go almost to the ceiling or something wider so he can go from one side of a room to another.

African Grey parrots are popular birds with pet owners because of their intelligence and their ability to talk. As a parrot owner, you may be busy throughout the day trying to teach your African Grey parrot to talk, or breeding a parrot, or teaching your parrot new tricks. But know when it is time to give your parrot a break from all these training stuff and just give the bird some social time. Spend the day with just the two of you doing fun stuff, like you would with your other non-feathered friends.

Let the parrot free in the house and let it choose what it wants to do. My parrot likes to fly from one perch to another across the living room. It also likes to strut on the sofa and mimic sounds from his vocabulary. And while I am reading a book or watching tv, the bird would perch on my lap and pretend it is doing the same.

Purchase new toys for your bird because just like humans, they get bored playing with the same toys over and over again. Rotate them with the old ones so the bird will not get bored. Play interactive games with your bird. You can use ropes, barbell, a towel, a soft ball, or your bird's favorite toy. Prepare some special meal for the bird with fresh vegetables, nuts and fruits that are to your bird's liking. You may even want to hand feed the bird and take it outside in the open air to have an outdoor meal. Just make sure you take precautions that your bird won't fly away and leave you. Let your parrot splash around in the sink or pail of water, or the tub. Or you can make a special perch for your bird to perch on while in the water. Use a squirt bottle to create mists and make the session fun for the bird. There are hundreds of save and fun things to do with your parrot. Just like any other pet, they love the attention from their master. The great thing about it also is that it relieves you and takes the stress out of your system.

How safe is a newspaper toy for African Grey parrots?

hi. My Grey parrot loves to play with newspaper. She likes to rip it apart. Is it alright? Are newspapers safe on parrots? I read few articles in the net which talks about giving newspaper and other old books for grey parrots. Because they like destroying things. Is there any other non toxic stuff which i can give for my bird. Please advice.

Newspaper in the US is printed with lead free baby safe ink. If you doubt my word you can call the paper and ask.While you have them on the phone ask if they sell the newspaper end rolls. This is the plain unprinted paper they take off so they dont have to change the roll in the middle of a run. For a few dollars you can pick up the end rolls if you can get there before all the teachers and hobbyists do and have enough plain paper to last a year

You've moved in with your best friend from college, and she keeps saying how nice it would be to have a bird. She leaves parrot pamphlets on the coffee table. And what about the time she kept you at the pet store for an hour watching a silly parrot when you were ready to go to the food court? But she's a flight attendant and is gone more than she's home. You're working a regular nine to five job. You'll be the one to see to the bird's care. You're not worried about the money, but what does a parrot need to be happy? You know you'll need a parrot cage as a first step, but what kind of cages work best?

A metal parrot cage is the most cost effective and the easiest to clean. Your friend will want to make sure that no wires are sticking out. She will also have to see to it that her parrot can't get its head through the bars of the cage. Parrots like a square parrot cage, so that they can curl up in a corner. You and your friend are going to want to put several perches around the cage so that the bird can get its exercise.

You and your friend will also have to consider food and water containers. Stainless steel is the best material for these containers because they are the nearest to sterilize. Especially for larger parrots a water bottle might be considered. And the water bottle could be used for yet another perch. You will want to rearrange the perches every month or so.

Believe it or not, birds are very intelligent animals that need mental stimulation. That's where bird toys come in. bird toys keep your bird from getting bored while in their cage. You will need to take the parrot out a couple of times a day to play with it. But toys will give the bird things to do while you're out and about. Birds enjoy mirrors; just make sure the mirrors have no sharp edges or anything that might hurt the bird. These pets also like wooden balls, don't let them have anything that might have toxic paints on it. Parrots like puzzle toys. They have even more fun when you put food or treats in the puzzle toys. Birds even like to play with old toilet paper rolls. Ask your pet store salesperson, as they will likely have some advice for you as well. Remember to rotate toys frequently as well.

Having a parrot can be a very rewarding experience if you give them what they need. You will find yourself enjoying your pet more and more. So go out and find the right parrot cage for your place. Get some bird toys. And voila! Your best friend and her new bird will be happy. And so will you!

Are there any pre mixed grass foods I can buy for my Sulcata Tortoise?

I have a baby Sulcata he's about 4 months and I was wondering since some people sell pre mixed premium bird feed and what not does anyone know of a place that does the same with grasses that are good from Sulcatas? And can he HAVE such dry hard foods at his age?

Not only can you baby have them - he needs them, lack of this type of bulk/fiber/cellulose to protein ratio at his age can cause long term damage to his system and the dreaded pyramiding (lumpy shell) seen in so many captive sulcatas.

I have a pet Bird and i am thinking about getting a Cat, Is that a good idea?

I have a pet bird which i love dearl y but now i want to adopt this one adorable baby kitten but i am afraid it will eat my bird... For bird and cat owners is it a good idea to buy a cat when u have a bird? Can birds and cats get along? If so how do i make them get along?

Cats and birds can get along - it just depends on the animals themselves, and how you go about introducing them to each other. If your bird is small (like a parakeet or finch), chances are the cat will see it as a toy or prey if the bird gets loose. But if it's a bigger bird, size for size the cat MAY have second thoughts about trying to attack it. It also depends on the personalities.

For starters, keep the cage out of the kitten's reach. If you let the birds play or sit outside the cage from time to time, make sure their play areas are out of reach, or at least supervise the animals closely. By all means let the critters see each other, if not just to get familiar with each other's presence. Kittens are playful and curious, so take this time to teach him or her that the birds are not prey or toys.

Question on aviary and birds that go in it?

I want 2 society finches, one canary and two doves, and a cockatiel. Will they all get along in the same aviary? and how large would it have to be? Please give me any information and pictures on this. If you have any experience or information on any of these birds please let me know. Experience and info is what I need. Easy points.

I would nix the cockatiel personally but the others will get along beautifully. Keep in mind that Doves prefer to be on the ground so you would need something that had a solid floor - not wired, if possible.
But for all of those birds something that was about 18-10" Tall, and about 33-36" long would be perfect. They all need more length than widths - the finches because they are side-to-side flyers, the doves because they need that space to walk around on the bottom.

Having a pet bird certainly provides a great deal of enjoyment in our daily lives. Listening to them chirp and sing is a lot of fun for those who love birds. Along with having a pet bird comes the need in having a good quality bird cage.

1. Where will you keep the bird cage?

2. What size is your bird?

Knowing where your bird cage will be in your home will let you know how big it can be. Now you can select a pet bird. Parakeets, finches and canary's can all be housed in smaller bird cages without concern over space.

Larger birds such as parrots will require much larger cages to have the extra room they need to move around.

Why is size so important? Birds do not like to be in small, restricted spaces. They become unhappy when they can not at least be able to spread their wings out and walk around. No different than how you would feel being cooped up.

3. Buy a good quality bird cage

Instead of cheap plastic, buy a good steel or wooden bird cage. Keep in mind that steel is much easier to maintain than wood, but both can provide durability and life.

Add some toys in the cage to let your bird play and have fun. Don't forget perches and food trays.
