Does anyone have any good ideas on what color I should paint my living room?
I am moving to a new house and I'm not very good with colors, I really would like a dark brown color but I'm not so sure it would look good with my furniture, it is light orange with red and light orange pillows Any help would be great thanks! http://www.raymourflanigan.com/catalog/details.asp?ID=8979 That is the link to my living room set.
The room is large and there are windows taking up almost one whole wall
My last living room I painted a fabulous color that matched everything. I think it would look GREAT with your furniture! Its called Toffee Crunch by Berh....It looks really good on the walls with a white trim!

Monochrome harmony is the first and most obvious method of achieving color harmony. Only one color or hue is used. Harmony is produced by varying the value (tint or shade, light or dark) and intensities of the color to give interest and contrast. For example, a room may have French gray walls, with its woodwork and ceiling painted in shades and tints of French gray.
Analogous color harmony is one in which closely related colors, or those that are adjacent to each other on the color circle are used. This type of color harmony produces delicacy, softness, and attractiveness. It brings refined beauty and lacks sharp contrast. This type of color scheme is excellent for vintage romantic bathrooms, with a relaxing combination hot tub and bathtub.
Complementary harmony exists when complementary colors are contrasted; for example, blue with orange, red with green, yellow with violet. The complement of any color can be found by looking at the opposite ends of any diameter on the color circle. Split complementary harmony is a modification of complementary harmony in which, instead of using a color directly opposite on the color wheel, the hues on either side of the complementary color may be used.
This adds to the richness of the color scheme by adding an additional hue. For example, if blue violet is used on one side, instead of combining the usual yellow orange with it yellow and orange are substituted. The color balance is maintained, as yellow and orange produce yellow orange. Triad harmony differs from the preceding methods in that it starts with three quite different colors. They are found by placing an equilateral triangle over the color wheel so that the corners of the triangle are inside the wheel.
Then the corners will always point, when the wheel is revolved, to three hues that may be used as the basis of a color scheme. For example, if one point rests on orange, the other points will rest on violet and green. This can produce bright, fun color schemes for children's rooms and bathrooms. A corner bathtub is the safest for children and bathtub toys can be included in the bathroom to match the colors of the walls.
In the foregoing discussion of color harmony, it is seen that color schemes may be successfully planned if the laws of harmony are used intelligently. It is not necessary to use all the colors, in any chosen harmony, on the walls, ceiling, or woodwork. The colors may be distributed throughout the room in articles of shower fixtures, furniture, rugs, bathroom fixtures, drapes, lamps, light fixtures etc.
If sharp or intense colors are desired for contrast, they may best be added to the color scheme as stated above, in articles of furniture. A good plan to follow is to have the large areas in colors of less intensity, or soft tones or tints. The smaller areas will stand colors of greater intensity. In other words, the larger the areas, the less intense the colors should be; and the smaller the areas the more intense they may be.
Great satisfaction will be derived from such planning. As experience is gained it will be found that the range of colors used in a scheme will increase, thereby permitting greater freedom and more interesting harmonies. Successful color harmony is dependent not only upon the hues chosen but also upon the proper tints and shades. Values of colors are as important as hues in any particular combination.
