Trail Etiquette - what am I supposed to do when my horse "goes" on the trail?
I have just moved to Colorado from England and I am not sure of the trail etiquette here. Clearly I know not to leave any mess where I park the trailer and not to clean out the trailer on to the car park! My question is what do I do when the horse leaves manure on the trail? My horse is 18h so I cant get down and get back up again without a mounting block or some assistance! I tend to try and go back the next day on foot and kick it to the side of the trail - is this acceptable? The manure is too big to pick up and take home like dog mess. In England you could just leave the manure on the trail as it was considered biodegradable but here I never see other horses manure on the trail or even on the side of the trail so I am concerned I am not clearing up after my horse right - can someone advise? Thanks. Some of the trails are greenways and parks where horses are allowed. I never see anyone else riding - but I do see horse shoe prints!
no rules or etiquette. You have just chosen a not widely used trail. Nothing wrong leaving it there. Animals will eat it up and it degrades and fertilizes great. Since your horse is so big his apples wont be missed and can be easily side-stepped for the next trail rider.
