Do you think giving a person a $5 million bail is excessive?

If the person is accused of a low-medium white collar crime, had more than 35 letters vouching for him that he is not a flight risk (from reputable people- including a retired police commisioner), has never even applied for a passport, has been generous to society during many tragedies- including 9-11, and has 2 very small children at home- including a 7 month old baby?

A bail set like this is more of a political statement than anything else. It's intended as a punishment.

In our mid 40's it starts. Our neck begins to shorten and show age. By the time we hit our 60's there is no hiding it. If you've always had an average neck length but add a double chin it visually shortens your neck, as well. I can't tell you how often I turn a woman to show her the profile of a haircut and instinctively she lifts her chin or brings her hand up to cover a double chin. We may not mind wrinkles, but none of us welcome the waddle. Fortunately you can reclaim your neck with more flattering necklines and accessories.

If you have a short neck, a thick neck and/or a double chin:

- Choose the V-neck. The end-all, beat-all, most slenderizing neckline around. The deeper the V, the more impact it will have in neck elongation.

- Avoid the turtleneck like the plague. Especially if you have a double chin. Don't think it's concealing anything. It is simply pushing the flesh toward your face like toothpaste from a tube. Wear a mock turtleneck instead.

- Never wear a choker. Remember the eye follows a line and if you blunt that line in half, you shorten it.

- Avoid chunky neck wear. Texture adds bulk.

- Avoid stiff scarves.

- Choose necklaces that create a V, such as the pendant. Excellent with a mock turtleneck or jewel neckline.

- Avoid round button earrings opting for medium to long vertical dangles.

Long Neck Issues

Many consider a long neck an attribute. It certainly can be attractive but remember that the eye is drawn to proportion. As a woman ages a swan like neck can look more frail than fab. A very long or thin neck is better softened with high collars, scarves or jewelry.

If your neck is very long or thin:

- Wear turtlenecks. The turtleneck should be a staple in any long neck's wardrobe. Great alone, or as a layer.

- Turn up your collar. Stand up collars come and go, but there's no reason you can't make it your look if it looks great on you. It visually lifts the eyes up as well.

- Button down collars ride up higher and are flattering.

- The choker. Your friend.

- The short, stiff scarf is excellent on you. It draws attention to your face, and adds a sense of drama and style that many women cannot achieve with shorter necks.

- Have fun with texture. Chunky jewelry, fur collars, feathers or ruffles. There's much drama to be enjoyed by the long necks.

- Victorian high collars can look stunning; with a slight ruffle or lace you can loosen the look with casual slack or jeans.
