what is my student status if i m having a US green card?

i had been to US twice and have a renewed green card issued from PA.now i m applying for graduation course after completion of my 12th grade in INDIA and my query is that in which catagory i shall include myself::US state/national/international student.

i had a green card a couple of years ago before i got naturalized and in school paper work they always listed me as an Ohio resident student or whichever is close to that in the paper work.
Green card holders are not considered international students because they don't hold a student or an education Visa.

Writing a hero for children is waaayyy different than writing a hero for adults. How do I know this? Because I'm writing one! Here's how it happened:

My daughter has been a struggling reader. Finally, the concepts are clicking, but she hasn't found many books that she LOVES. So, in all my motherly brilliance, I said to her:

Me: We should write a book. (My logic: if she helped me with the concept, she'd have to love it, and then read it, right?)

Daughter: What do you mean?

Me: You know, a book. Like Airy Fairy, or Allie Finkle. A book. One you'd like to read.

Daughter: (not looking overly thrilled with the idea...did I mention she's 8?): Oh. Okay.

Me (to myself): Wow, she's excited-on the inside. I can totally tell. Mom's instinct.

The Process:

Conflict in a middle grade book is very different than conflict in an adult book. We're talking bully's (aka mean girl in training), sibling rivalry, self esteem... All those things that morph into evil villains, vicious sibling jealousy, and victims in adult reading.

But I came up with an awesome concept which daughter liked (though she really and truly liked the FIRST concept I came up with and wrote a few pages about better. That one had to do with the girl wanting her family to turn their pizza restaurant into an ice cream parlor. I may have to write that one day just to please daughter.).

The Heroine:

Developing the heroine (alas it's not a romance-in-training, so no hero in the traditional sense) was tricky. She had to be spunky, smart, determined, yet unique and not quite 'accepted' by her popular peers. All this so that she can use her spunk, smarts, and determination to overcome her obstacles as she tries to define herself as a 9, almost 10 year old girl.

The Result:

I just completed the first draft of the middle grade book for girls, the first in a series, I hope. And I have to say that I LOVE this book and this character. Maybe because I modeled that spunky, smart, determined character after Daughter (in some ways), and maybe because I hope Daughter will actually learn to be more spunky, smart, and determined by loving this character and reading this book. That's what middle grade books are all about, it turns out. They're an avenue for kids to understand themselves and figure out how to define themselves in the framework of their own conflicted lives.

I think that's the other reason I like this book so much. It has so much potential to be loved by children and to be a point of reference for them. What would April do? Daughter might ask, and then her knowledge of this character can help her move forward in her own life.

Bottom Line:

Writing is SO rewarding, no matter who the target audience is, but somehow connecting with kids seems extra special.
