If you are gettin you car door painted, do they need to paint two doors to match the colors?
I got break into my car, i got it scratch in the drivers way, where the handle is, but they are telling me , they need to paint the other door so the color is well matched.. does this make sence?
They will be making what's referred to as a "Spot repair". I assume your vehicle's paint is clear coated. The basics of the repair are something like this:
The damaged area of the driver's door is repaired. The damaged area will be painted with a primer which is then sanded smooth to prepare it for finish paint.
The undamaged portion of the door (and any adjacent panel) will have its clear coat scuff sanded to prepare it for the finish paint procedure.
The finish paint process involves several steps. First, the primed area may be covered by a sealer coat (depending on the type of paint system used). The next step will be applying the color coat of your particular vehicle. This typically requires 3 to 4 coats to cover correctly. The first coat will be applied to the primed or sealed area only, successive coats will be extended outward from each previous coat. This is the blending process. After the color is applied, the entire panels previously prepared are clear coated 2 to 3 times. This blending process is necessary to make the repaired area match the rest of the vehicle. It is impossible to perfectly match the color and texture of the paint already on your car, especially if it is a metallic color. By blending the paint in this fashion, the repair, if done by a quality shop, will be impossible to detect.
