There are many wireless dog fences in the market. Since there is no patent for a dog fence, these are manufactured with many variations and according to the developments introduced by them. However, with any of them, the dog owners can be guaranteed to get great results, though it is better to look at a variety for them for the best quality and the lowest prices.

There are a few points to consider before choosing a dog fence:
•    You must know what kind of material is present in the dog fence. You should know what the manufacturer is offering you. Look at the cost and see if it is more than what others are offering for the same stuff.
•    Decide upon the length of the fence. See how tall it is. If you have a big dog like a Great Dane, then opt for the taller ones.

The various types of dog fences are:
•    The Wooden Slat Fence: This is also known as the picket fence and is very popular with the homeowners. While this traditional fence is attractive, it is very expensive. Also your pet can easily jump over it and escape.
•    The Privacy Fence: These are good but have a few disadvantages. They are almost 6 feet tall and block your entire view. Since they are wooden, they are very expensive and the maintenance cost runs high.
•    The Chain Link Fence: This is mostly used for the commercial dog runs. In this there are pipe posts for supporting the wire that is stretched between them.
•    The Electric Dog Fence: This is perhaps the best fence and doesn’t even hamper your landscape view. What are the key components of the wireless pet fences that make these such an effective tool in training a dog? There are 3 main components of the entire system:
•    A wireless transmitter
•    The water proof collar which your pet wears
•    A battery module that is water proof

Some people opt for enclosed dog runs. It is a great alternative to setting up the huge fence in your backyard, but did you know that the dog run has to be placed over a cemented area and should be inspected closely? There are chances that your dog might dig the enclosed dog run. Therefore the best alternative is the electric dog fence which will allow you a piece of mind. Even your dog has the freedom to run and roll in your yard and you can be rest assured that the pet is right there in front of your eyes.

Though a Shih Tzu is quite smaller than most other dogs at the dog park, your dog would love you to take him or her out for some socializing with other canines. Indeed, this is most important when they are small puppies so that they can grow up without harboring irrational fears of other dogs, new people and strange situations. However, it is very important that you manage such new situations as often as possible while your Shih Tzu is still an impressionable young puppy, otherwise trying such adventures might have a disastrous outcome if attempted in adulthood.

Perhaps the single best reason to make certain your Shih Tzu is a well-socialized as a puppy is to prevent them from developing a habit of fear-biting. Such dogs are not trustworthy because they are so frightened, and being dogs, they lead with their teeth is such situations that are too tense for them to comprehend. Obviously, you will want your Shih Tzu to be a companion that you can take with you in any type of situation.

As a result, there are many things you can do to initiate the dog being in contact with other people. For example, make it a point to take your dog to new places, even it is just a bit new, each day for the first three months you have him or her. This may simply mean taking a new corner at the same park you have always visited, but it is highly important that new smells, new people and new environments are incorporated as much as possible, so that your dog comes to expect new things happening on a regular basis.

Of course, some dogs that encounter your Shih Tzu will not be as nearly mindful of your small dogs limbs and livelihood as you are. It is your duty and responsibility to be somewhat of a tour guide for your dogs first foray into the outside world.

This does not mean that you should pick up your Shih Tzu every time a larger dog approaches. As a matter of fact, this is just about one of the worst things you can do, this just reinforces the mind frame that it is okay to be intimidated and freaked out when a larger dog comes near.

It is a much better idea to manage the encounter by verifying with the other dogs owner to find out if the dog is friendly or not. If not, you can simply guide your Shih Tzu onto another course and walk on the other side of the sidewalk. If the other dog is friendly, allow them to meet and greet each other the way dogs do.

In fact when it comes time to meet other dogs, it is best to let them be as noisy as they want and settle things on their own. Dominance is not something that has to do with the size of a dog, as far as canines are concerned. Though Shih Tzus do not lean towards dominance, males of the breed may sometimes exert dominance over a subordinate dog of any size or breed. Regardless of where your Shih Tzu lands in the canine hierarchy, there will be loud noises, try to not be concerned; it is just dogs learning how to establish a pecking order.

Of course when meeting small children for the very first time, you will have to be more careful than you would with other dogs. Unlike other dogs, small children cannot judge when to stop tugging, pulling, hitting or whatever else they are doing. An unsupervised visit between a Shih Tzu and a small child should not be allowed. Shih Tzus and small children normally become fast friends, however you just need to supervise the situation and exert caution and care.

A quick overall PediPaws Review. The PediPaw is a device to trim your cats and dogs nails. I have 2 big dogs and I know how difficult it is to trim their nails.

The hardest part is the possibility of clipping too much nail and exposing the cuticle which can bleed and cause allot of pain. My wife used to work for a vet so she has some experience with cutting pet nails. Even she has a hard time with regular clippers.

So we were looking at this device. I must say the tap tap tap on my hardwood floors of the German Short Haired pointer drives me crazy. And his nails grow fast and furious. So a little device like this Pedipaws thing will go a long way for our sanity.

After careful review of this thing we saw many mixed reviews. Some good and some bad. The pros are that is it lightweight and easy to use. I read were some dogs nails didn't fit into the device but it fit my dogs ok. So being able to easily handle the device around the dog was a plus. The second thing is that it doesn't cut the nail it grinds it. So you Dont risk cutting into the cuticle. This was the biggest positive about this thing

Now for the cons. The Pedipaws is powered by C batteries. So, as with any battery operated device you need to replace the batteries when the device is used over and over. You get a few complete grinds before having to replace the batteries. The other thing is that it is a slow grind. This is a good thing and a bad thing. While the slowness is good for making sure you dont grind off too much it does take about 5 to 8 minutes to do all 4 nails. In dog time that is forever. The only other negative is the noise. the dogs didnt like it at first but kinda got used to it.

I think most people who review this product are using it on a pet nail that has never been cut or has not been cut in a long time. The trick is to use it often like once a month. This will make sure your grind sessions are quick and you are really just taking off the tips. While not the super device most are looking for this is a quick and cheap solution to a common problem. Dont expect miracles but you can expect tiny improvements.

How do i correct my BIG dog after he bit me? How do i prevent it from happening again?

Ok. So i have this big loveable dog who i have hand raised since he was a week old. He is part rotweiler and chesepeak retreiver and he has been neutered. He is 1 year and 3 months old and weighs 97 pounds. Today I was outside playing soccer with him and when i went to kick the ball he lunged at my leg and bit it, then shook it agressively. My problem is he has never done this before. EVER! So it scared me. But my first reaction was to slap him and i did. Then he let go of my leg and just sat there. I then grabbed his nose and looked him in the eyes and yelled, "BAD DOG." I don't want this to happen again and this has made me kind of leary of him. But he is my big spoiled baby and i love him to death so i really need help on what to do to prevent this from happening again.

i am worried that was a very aggrasive behavior. You can try a muzzle when you are playing. Though I don't want him to think of playing as being bad. only the biting thing as bad. and I have found a muzzle the only thing that works. 5 minutes on everytime.
