They live long and require daily attention and contact with their “human flock”. A kid goes through a lot of changes and phases of his/her style of living (school, marriage, building a family, moving etc.) which makes it almost impossible to keep a life-long relationship with such an intelligent creature as a pet.

How do I keep my cat from jumping up by the bird cage?

I have a problem with my cat jumping up by the bird cage and scaring the bird to death! It does not matter where I put the bird cage, the cat finds away to get up to it. I scare the cat away from it, spray water at it, put it in a pet carrier, swat the cat even, nothing seems to work! I ran out of things to try! "PLEASE HELP ME FIND AWAY!"

I have had cat and bird combos many times in my life and so I know how frustrating it can be. I had my bird high up, I kid you not up 8 feet up on top of my china cabinet and my cat did a full volt up and hung on to it knocking both of them to the ground!! My bird ended up with a tumor and I wonder if that had anything to do with it. I got a bird cage that is cat proof cant be knocked over and cant be opened, its by a company not sure if they are still in business but its a wooden cage and on a wood stand its a great cage, search ebay or yard sales for something like that, My cats actually slept on the top and ended up being Buddy's with my birds.. I have had the same cage for over 17 years.. amazing still is in top shape, worth the money! GOOD LUCK

For most bird owners, the budget issue made many people to choose wrought iron instead. However, for those who chose stainless steel were very happy customers. They did not have to deal with rusting or buying any new bird cages for a very long time. If you can actually afford it, sometimes it is probably better to go with stainless. Cage Bird Cages

You don't mention how small the cage is - and that could mean different things to different people.

I would NOT house a red belly OR a senegal (they are two different species) in anything smaller than 20" x 20" x 24" tall for any amount of time. And, I hope the bar spacing of your permanent wrought iron cage is no more than 1" apart, otherwise the your bird could attempt to squeeze through and wind up getting stuck.

What really concerns me though is the fact that your question makes me feel you are not super knowledgable about parrots in general and I wonder WHY the breeder would allow you to bring home an UN-weaned baby bird! The weaning process and proper socialization is not that simple. The other thing that doesn't sound good to me is the breeder telling you that the bird may not know how to climb down from the top of its cage. Climbing is part of the learning process in a bird and if it does get to the top (I assume you mean hanging upside down from the underside of the top of a cage) nothing too terrible could really happen other than it continues hanging until you come to rescue it! Yes, it could fall, but not likely. Birds are not stupid and are usually quite courageous. In 20 years or owning and breeding birds, I've NEVER found a baby bird in that predicament. I have found them with legs or wings caught between too small of bar spacing though so your bar spacing is indeed an important consideration for any cage, temporary or permanent.

I think you would do well to do some additional book reading or internet research before you bring your new baby home because just asking this one question is not the only thing you are going to need to know for giving your bird the best possible care and I'm not sure that the breeder is giving you all the correct knowledge either.

Is there a paint I can use on a rusted parrot cage that is safe for bird?

I live in the tropics and shipping a cage here is expensive.
Can I paint the one I have? My parrot does use the cage to climb around on so it has to be safe in case he gets it off.

You cannot simply paint over rust. It will come right back! Even if you sanded every bar, the rust would still come back! The only paints which can go over rust, such a Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer, would be harmful to your bird.

If you want to have a parrot, you must be willing to spend the money needed to take care of your bird. If you cannot afford an adequate cage, then you cannot afford the bird.

I suggest that you either find a way to get him a good cage, or you arrange for someone else to take him who can give him what he needs. Think of what the bird needs.

can a cockateil baby once weened be put in the same cage as an adult parakeet?

i know some one had a simalar question, to mine but if the cockatiel is introduced as a baby to adult parakeets would they get along? i am hand feeding a cockateil baby and it will be a matter of weeks before it is weened. i have layed it in the bottom of the parakeets cage and they just look at it but dont do any thing to it.

There is a very slim cage that everything would work out fine, but i wouldn't recommend it at all.
They may have ignored it as they might not have perceived it as a threat, but if you put it in there permanently (as in longer than 1/2 an hour or so), the parakeets, who have no doubt been in the cage for some time, will likely see the cockatiel as an intruder into their territory and attack it. They may not do this straight away, but there is a very good chance they will whether you see it happen or not!
If you had a large (as in quite big!) spare cage, that the parakeets had never been in, you MAY be able to put them all in there together right from the word go, because it would be no-ones territory.
But I still wouldn't recommend it!
If you had a proper aviary that was at least say 10ft long, then there should'nt be too many problems as there is enough space for everyone, and room for a persecuted bird to escape.
But in any situation like this, the most important thing is to PAY ATTENTION and WATCH, WATCH, WATCH! Just because no one has a go at anyone else in the first half an hour of being together doesn't mean that there won't be any fighting.
I think your best bet is to put your new little guy in a cage by himself, set up near your parakeets cage, as he will still benefit from having other birds to 'talk to', even with his seperate quarters.

Well I bought my cage that fits 2 parakeets for just 10$ and I went to petco and saw that same cage for 70$.In pet shops they usually sell cages for more price because the item might be better quality or they just want to make people pay more.I bought my cage at the swapmeet and the cage seems to be fine my bird stays in that cage for over 3 years now.But if you do buy one at swap meet or wherever make sure you wash.

How big should my parakeet cage be for 2 birds?

I have 2 parakeets and i want to know how big i need the cage to be and what kind of toys/food to get them and if i should let them out of there cage for a little. My house is big so should i put them in a small room? Thanks!

For all cages always, the bigger the better! If there is room for them to fly, it's great. Always when you have multiple birds they need to have room to get away from each other as well as plentiful water and food in case one picks on the other and keeps them from the food dishes. As for toys - try to go for naturally made toys. From pet stores get the ones from Planet Pleasures that are purely organic parts. Parakeets love to chew so the ones that allow them to do so are best and make sure you change up their toys often (bi-weekly and at least monthly) so they don't get bored, even if they haven't gone through that particular toy yet.

Organic pellets are best and are not sold at petshops. There are two brands I know of;

And it's good for birds to get true exercise. Letting your parakeets out is a great idea so they can really strech and fly around. Recall flight is best, so trianing them to come back to you on cue. You can do so through target training;

Just make sure no fans are on, windows open, etc. or else they will die outside on their own and a fan is a dangerous thing for them to attempt to land on.

Leaving looks aside, you're going to want the largest cage you can live with. Side-to-side size is going to be a little more important than height. None of the cages you've shown here would be out of the question, BUT a couple really aren't large enough for your conure (the black one from birdguys is definitely too small; the white dometop is pushing it).

Actually the white one is probably OK, too, IF you're prepared to give your pet conure plenty of outside-the-cage time. When I was researching buying a conure myself, I actually liked that one very much, but decided it wasn't large enough. I actually have a secondary cage of similar size for my office, but I almost never locked him in...I left it open for him to climb around.

Some other things you want to look at are (not necessarily in any order):
--How many welds or places are there where the bars form "ledges"...these spots are going to be more difficult to clean ("poop-catchers").
--Likewise looking for any exposed bolts and such that your conure could injure himself on
--The convenience of the latches, locks, etc. Definitely have a plan for the front door latch: conures CAN be good escape artists.
--How easy is it to disassemble and/or clean?

I will say it will be the parakeets they will give you lots of birds; I tell you this by experience I bath a couplet of parakeets like about a year or so and now I have 10 of them they breed fast and easy they can laid almost every month if you allow it. finches are so delicate and if you don't have them in a quit place they won't laid or if they do they will hutch their eggs but the birds with the noise won't last they'll die. So hope you good look and that you'll find a good laid female ‘cause as good the parakeets are there will be times that females are mean and will eat the birds or kill them or kill also the male. Bird owners know how satisfying it is to give their birds the very best cages and play areas. So, how do you go about choosing the best one that will fit all of your bird's needs and still fit into your home as if it was meant to be there all along? Take a look at these helpful hints and you'll soon find that a decision is easier than you thought!

One of the most important aspects of small bird cages is what shape the cage is. You can choose a wider flight cage to give your bird room to fly around in a limited space, but still allowing them to get some flight movement in (this is highly recommended). These types of small bird cages are large enough for multiple birds, many come with stainless steel food cups, and they are large enough to attach a toy or two without cramping the birds' space.

Can a steel garage and bird cage be a foundation for a Faraday cage soldering or gluing the rest of the wiring?
Can the current get through the door or window in a steel garage?
I meant if the door or window isn't there or open. Like how close must the gap between the metal be to prevent current or electrons (not sure how to say it) from getting through?

A microwave oven should be good. Put your cell phone inside and check signal level. Don't turn it on if you like your phone.

There is a relationship between the mesh size and the bandwidth you may need to pay attention to. Most bird cages have rather long vertical slots. Most garages don't have a lot of ground connections to the doors so you might get some non-uniform performance though out the garage.

I am soon to be buying a young male parakeet.So sweet. While going there daily to bond I was introduced to a young Quaker Parrot

No, they should not be in the same cage. The quaker can easily kill the budgie, and the budgie will be such a little firecracker, that it will likely drive your quaker nuts. Quakers are also very territorial. Budgies can be very aggressive, and will often pick on larger birds, and since they're smaller, they're quicker, and can harass larger birds and get away.
Having both birds is fine -but keeping them in the same cage is definatly not. Regardless of what other members will tell you about their birds that lived in the same cage for years without problems -it only takes one time for the budgie to be dead. It could go on fine for years, and then one day, you lose your pet.

that might work. however i doubt it would because the bird cage might be to small compared to the garage. if, and that's a big if, it works it would be almost worthless because it could not protect much. if you are trying to protect something small then a microwave reconfigured is much better.

I also had an amazon. He and my conure were best of friends, so it is possible. . But I wouldn't dare leave them unsupervised, untill you're sure. Birds are very territorilal. They need their own space, room, whatever. I wouldn't dare let my lovebirds fly into the macaws cage, although they loved to, just to steal their newspapers and shred them for nesting material. Tiny as they are, the macaws still see them as invading their territory and will bite, not realizing they will kill them.. But it is possible they will become friends as my Amazon and conure were. But please supervise them first to make sure. And make sure they both get equal love and attention from you so there's no jealousy. Parrots are like little kids in that respect. They are extremely jealous and possessive of their owner. As long as your Amazon feels that it's number one, it should work out okay.

Get the Deluxe home (First one) I have 2 parakeets they are blue and green. female and male. If you get the first one they will have enough of room and they like to play in thier cage so make sure u get them some toys so they wont get bored!
