Bird Parrot
does anyone know where i could adopt an exotic bird, like a parrot or a macaw, in or near Houston?
i have tried local shelters and rescues. I can't seem to locate a bird available for adoption. Please do not respond unless you actually know the exact location of available birds for adoption in Texas. Preferrably near Houston...but would travel to adopt one.
Sorry to burst your bubble, this isn't meant to put anyone down.
I think you'll find that any reputable rescue, won't adopt a bird out to you unless you can demonstrate that you've owned fids before and we're not talking budgies. A rescue bird is almost always as a rule, been pretty abused by people and may never come completely around again. I've got 8 years with Fids and I wouldn't even think of it.

If you own or are currently thinking of owning a parrot, one must be well versed on the nurturing and maintenance of birds, particularly parrots. If handled and raised well, your parrots could grow into a friendly and social bird.
Whether or not you are inexperienced in bird care, it is very important to find a reputable parrot bird breeder. Breeders' focus is to raise well-socialized parrots with affable personalities.
How do you find a good parrot bird breeder? They should have all the right traits, namely:
1. Willingness to answer your queries
2. Availability to help and give support after purchase of your bird
3. Willingness to sign a contract or agreement
4. Willingness to let you view their bird aviary.
Ask the breeder how he handled the parrots and what he did to socialize the birds. The breeder's techniques affect greatly of what will be the parrot's social and emotional health. In addition, the parrot babies should be weaned properly right from its birth so they could grow into adulthood as strong and able parrots.
If you could, find a breeder who taught the birds how to fly. Some negligent breeders would not want to deal with the trouble. It is important that they know how to fly, even if you intend to keep your pet parrot caged. Flying helps in muscle development and blood circulation. This will keep your beloved parrot physically healthy even in later years.
Keep in constant communication to your parrot bird breeder. Bird breeders are vital in your future bird's life: in more than one facet. One major responsibility is they make sure your pet bird is fed with the proper and healthy foods. Bird breeders know which foods are best for your bird. Parrots, more specifically, need a variety of foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, seeds, pellets and other soft foods.
Through proper care and love, your parrot can live up to 50 to 60 years, and maybe even longer. It pays to find the perfect parrot bird breeder to help you care for your parrot, so the bird can live a long and happy life.
