When I let my bearded dragon out of his cage to play how do I know when he gets cold?

I've had him for about 4 years and he's not too big but is an adult. He loves running around my room or wherever I let him, sometimes he finds a place to hide and take a nap and other times he runs like a maniac. What are some ways I can tell if he's cold and needs to go back into his cage?

when the dragon gets to cold it will feel cold to the touch and become less active and more stiff i usally have mine out for 30 mins around 3 times a day hope this helped

How do I keep my cat from jumping up by the bird cage?

I have a problem with my cat jumping up by the bird cage and scaring the bird to death! It does not matter where I put the bird cage, the cat finds away to get up to it. I scare the cat away from it, spray water at it, put it in a pet carrier, swat the cat even, nothing seems to work! I ran out of things to try! "PLEASE HELP ME FIND AWAY!"

I have had cat and bird combos many times in my life and so I know how frustrating it can be. I had my bird high up, I kid you not up 8 feet up on top of my china cabinet and my cat did a full volt up and hung on to it knocking both of them to the ground!! My bird ended up with a tumor and I wonder if that had anything to do with it. I got a bird cage that is cat proof cant be knocked over and cant be opened, its by a company not sure if they are still in business but its a wooden cage and on a wood stand its a great cage, search ebay or yard sales for something like that, My cats actually slept on the top and ended up being Buddy's with my birds.. I have had the same cage for over 17 years.. amazing still is in top shape, worth the money! GOOD LUCK

Why is dog fighting illegal but human cage boxing is fine?

Now don't think I am in favor of dog fighting because I am not. But I heard an ad on the radio for a family event that was human cage boxing. Either I don't understand the sport or there is really something wrong here?

Because of CHOICE. Humans who choose to do cage fighting do so KNOWING what they are getting into. They train their bodies for years to take the abuse and go in there knowing what they will face. Dogs are not hugely violent by nature and in dog fighting, they have to be made MEAN. That's a horrible thing to do to anyone. Humans don't have to make themselves mean to do cage-fighting. They just have to be mentally and physically ready. And as I said...they CHOOSE that life. Dogs don't choose to be abused, tortured, and thrown into situations where they are made to fight. It's horrible. I can't even imagine how scared some of those dogs must be. And if the dog displays any fear at all, they are put down and not humanely in most cases. It's a horrible, horrible crime and no, I am not a PETA member. I think those people are freaks.

Don't we all like friends? Friends are not always human beings though! The next best thing that has happened to humans is pets!

I have 2 cockatiels. Their cage is 3 feet wide. i wanted to put fake vines around their cage.

Never put fake plants either Plastic or Silk in a Cockatiel or any Parrot like cage ,they will only destroy them and could be killed if they digest any of the artificial plants, Plastic and Silks cannot be digested through the birds system so they could block it's gut and it will not be able to pass it and this will Kill your bird.

my dog is a 7 month old cockerspaniel who tries to be dominant.alpha roll and crate time doesnt help.she chews

She chews everything!!! i cannot keep her in her kennel all the time. As soon as i let her out, not even 5-10 minutes she gets into something that shes not suppose to!! chews up my sons toys, our shoes, socks, key chains, keys, you name it. i am considering giving her away because its not fair to her to have her locked in a cage all day and night. she also tries to "play" with my son and ends up biting him. what can i do?

It's a "puppy".... what do you expect... ? Take it to the yard and play ball for a few minutes before letting loose in the house.
When you want her to quiet down.. don't use the crate as punishment either... kind of roll her over on her back and rub her belly... this is calming to dogs and teaches them to be calm.
You can also try the leash trick by having her on a leash with you holding it - or whoever her alpha is going to be... Now everything comes from you and through you.

Volhards has a great book about training your dog and I think you can go onto ebay and get one very reasonalby... named something like "Dog Training For Dummies". It address your issue completey and with much more detail than you can ever get on yahoo answers.

If you have ever dealt with a pet who was kennel trained, you might have mixed feelings about it. If you have a puppy that seems to be slowly but surely destroying your home, you might want to consider kennel training them. To those who don't have dogs confining them to a dog cage for any period of time can seem cruel, but for those who do have a dog (or multiple dogs), it can seem like a lifesaver of an idea. The only problem is actually executing such a plan.

Luckily, kennel training your dog is not nearly as difficult as it seems. While it certainly helps if you start out when your dog is a puppy it is not completely necessary. Here are a few tips on kennel training your dog.

Introduce the Idea as Early as Possible

Introducing the idea as early as possible is the best way to get your dog on the right track for kennel training, but again starting out as a puppy is not necessary. As soon as you get it in your head to kennel train your dog, make the investment in a kennel. They are not too badly priced; if you have a young dog that is still growing, you can get a larger kennel with a partition that can be moved to increase or decrease their living space based on your needs.

Make the Kennel a Homey Place

Once you start the kennel training process, try to make it as little like a punishment as possible. This means that you can get a nice comfy dog bed to put inside the kennel, and perhaps their favorite toy as well. If your dog suffers from separation anxiety, they might benefit from you throwing in one of your favorite sweatshirts or blankets in there. Your scent may make them feel better while they are in your kennel and you are gone, thereby decreasing their anxiety a little bit.

The more comfortable that your dog kennel is, the easier the transition is going to be for them. Their comfort is extremely important when it comes to kennel training, or you may never get anywhere with it. Remember that the kennel is not punishment for their bad behavior, but an obedience tool that can help make your experience together go that much more smoothly.

Be Tough About It, and They Will

Keep in mind when you are beginning the kennel training process that it is not going to be easy. If you are serious about this kennel training process, you have to be as tough about it as you possibly can or there will be no success. Your dog is going to cry when you first confine them to the kennel, and chances are that it will be one of the single most pitiful sounds you have ever heard in your life. If you give up a let them go free during the first five minutes that you put them in there, they aren't going to take the kennel training seriously at all. Be tough; if you must leave the house to give your heart a break from their crying then that is just what you have to do, but it is important to remain firm. If you don't take yourself seriously, how do you expect your dog to?

Tie a Command Together With the Training

As it is with many other types of training, you want to try and find a way to combine the kennel training with a command. One of the popular kennel training commands is 'Go Home.' The idea behind the Go Home command is for your dog to put himself in the kennel upon your request.

There are a few different ways to go about implementing the Go Home command for the first time. Try tossing a treat in the kennel and telling them to Go Home a few times. After a while, they should be able to tie the two together. Positive reinforcement is the single best way to drive this information home; treats do wonders for kennel training.

Kennel training is not for every dog, and it is isn't for every owner. If you think that you might want to make kennel training a part of your dog's life, start out as soon as you can and put all of these ideas to work for best results. Remember that the kennel is not punishment, but training tools that can help them learn to behave and help you find aw way to save your shoes and your home in the process. It may feel like slow going at first, but many dogs catch on soon enough.

How long does it take for a 4 months old puppy to adjust herself to a playpen?

As first time owners, i guess everything didn't run too smoothly for us. We decided to let her have her own room, so we had a small door which she showed us that she can actually squeeze out of. After 2 days, we put her in a playpen and she whined and barked non-stop. We stay in a flat, so i really don't want the neighbours to get affected by her as well. We just don't want to let her roam the whole house as she's not toilet trained at all. Although the room she is in is empty of furniture except for her own toys and stuff, she has learnt to smear her feeces on the walls when we're away at work. Any advice anyone?

You definitely want to crate train her now. She will cry and howl for awhile, but it will make housetraining much easier and she won't be able to rub poop on the walls. Nevermind the barking for now, you can't give in or she won't learn. Get a book about crate training or look it up online, and then use it to potty train her. It will give her much more freedom in the long run, because you'll be able to let her out more, knowing she's housetrained and reliable.

When house training your Dalmatian puppy, you will need to take him out frequently and at regular intervals: first thing in the morning directly from the crate, right after meals, after the puppy has been napping, or when you notice that the puppy is looking for a spot.

Choose more or less the same place to take the puppy each time in order to establish a pattern. If he does not go immediately, do not return him to the house because he will probably relieve himself the moment he is inside.Stay out with him until he has finished; then be generous with your praise for his good behavior.

During basics dog training if you catch the puppy having an accident indoors, grab him firmly and rush him outside, sharply saying "No!" as you pick him up. If you do not see the accident occur, there is little point in doing anything except cleaning it up, because once it has happened and been forgotten, the puppy will most likely not even realize why you are scolding him.

If you live in a big city or are away many hours at a time, having a dog that is house trained to go on paper has some very good advantages. In order to do this, proceed the same way as taking the puppy outdoors, except this time you place the puppy on the newspaper at the proper time.The paper should always be kept in the same area.

A simple tip during basics dog training to paper train a puppy is if you have a playpen is to line the area with newspapers; then gradually remove a section of it until you are down to just one or two.

The puppy acquires the habit of using the paper; and as the prepared area grows smaller, the dog will usually continue to use whatever paper is still available. It is pleasant, if the dog is alone for a long period of time to be able to feel that if he needs it the paper is there and will be used.

The puppy should form the habit of spending a certain amount of time in his crate, even when you are home. Sometimes the puppy will do this "voluntarily, but if not, he needs to learn to do so, which is done by leading him over by his collar, gently pushing him inside, and saying firmly, "Down" or "Stay."

Whatever expression you use to give a command, stick to the very same one each time for each act. Repetition is very important in dog training as well as association with what the dog is expected to do. When you mean "Sit" always say exactly that. "Stay" should mean only that the dog should remain where he receives the command. "Down" means something else again.

Do not confuse the dog by shuffling the commands, because this will create basics dog training problems for you. As soon as he had his shots, take your puppy with you whenever and wherever you can. Nothing builds a self-confident, stable dog like socialization, and it is very important that you plan and have the time and energy to do this.
