Temperament of Cats

June 27th, 2009 admin No comments

First, a domestic cat is very intelligent and fiercely independent creature. There can never be on a leash the dog track. They wondered what they want, such as food and play. And they will also reveal when they want to be left alone. Thus, the owner of a cat cannot expect their pet to do "work" for him.

Different type breeds of cats have different personalities. Some cats are quiet while others meowing all the time. Can you tolerate a cat meow almost every hour? Some cats are fussy and selective on the food you give them, while others eat almost anything. Can you afford the type of food your cat prefers? Some cats are not pet and being surrounded by strange people, while others exercise their claws if they are faced with someone they have not met before. Does your home or too many foreigners, are you alone most of the time? And some cats love to climb and buckle on the lap of their masters. But others prefer to be alone, watching television or listening to the radio. Are you the owner of a cat who loves to caress all the time?

You will know when your cat is trying to attract your attention. It is always you, or meow, you follow him around his body or rubbing against your leg. You can also find out if your cat is comfortable or scared by the lifting of your cat. If the body is tense, then something is scaring the daylights out of it.

Personality and breed of cats will determine if the cat decides to sleep. Some, like being in isolated places where nobody can disturb. They like to lie in the cupboards and similar places. Other breeds of cats like to sleep in places where everyone converges. So they sleep in the center of the home, in the middle of the stairs and even on the couch, especially when there are guests.

Claws of cats very sharp. It is their nature, similar to wild cats such as lions, tigers, leopards and cheetahs. This May irritate the owner, especially if the cat decided to sharpen its claws on the couch. May consider the owner to give the spade a scratching post.

5 Top Reasons Your Cat Stresses Out

June 16th, 2009 admin No comments

Whether it's our finances, job, or other problems that cause it, we all get stressed out at one time or another, but did you know that your cat can get stressed out as well? Every animal on the planet (including humans and cats) can get stressed out due to various internal and external factors. If you're cat is stressed and you don't know why, here is a list of some of the most common causes.

#1: Routine Change

Cats love consistency because it means security. When you change your routine, it can stress your cat out. In order to avoid this, try not having such a regimented routine to begin with. Instead of following your normal everyday routine when you get ready for work, change things up a bit so that your cat can never get a handle on what's happening.

#2: Changing Homes

When you move you and your cat to a new home, you're both moving into a completely new environment. While this may be a great change of pace for you, it can be very frightening and stressful for your cat. If you are going to be moving soon, take your cat's litter box, toys, food and water, and bed or crate and put it all in a room with them so that they can have a safe haven from which they can explore the rest of the house at their leisure.

#3: A New Addition to the Family

Once again, cats like consistency. When a new family member (human or animal) is introduced, the status quo of the house is thrown out of whack and your cat may get stressed out. In this situation, you don't want to rush things; let your cat get accustomed to the new family member at their own pace.

#4: Get-togethers

As most cat owners can attest, their cats are nowhere to be found during big parties or during the holidays when they have their friends and family at their house. If your cat is stressed out by such occasions, you should provide them with a place that they can hide, such as an extra bedroom or in the basement; just make sure they have access to their food, water, and litter pan, as well as a nice place to sleep.

#5: Staring Out the Window

As most cat owners know, cats love to perch on the windowsill and watch the world go by. However, this can be a stressful activity. Anytime a dog or another cat come onto your property your cat can get territorial, and stressed out. So if your cat is showing some misplaced aggression, this could very well be the reason.

All you really have to remember is that your cat is subject to stress just like you and that their stressors are things that you perceive as harmless. Likewise, your cat probably would perceive your stressors as harmless if they had any concept of the idea. As long as you remain perceptive about your cat's needs, you can keep them stress-free.

The Beautiful and Amazing Siamese Cat

June 16th, 2009 admin No comments

I am often asked questions regarding the demeanor of the Siamese Cat.  Those who may be contemplating getting a Siamese or had recently acquired one may be concerned about rumors on how the Siamese is relatively mean, pretentious, and peculiar.  Let me dismiss these negative tales, Siamese have gotten the wrong publicity due to stories or movies, especially in the film “Lady and the Tramp” from the clip “We are Siamese if you please!”  Of course they are beautiful with their mesmerizing blue eyes, head shape, slender body structure, and their sleek striking color contrast.  Wouldn’t you be a little conceited if you were that beautiful?

So what is the personality of the Siamese cat like?   The Siamese cat is one of the most extroverted and social cats in the world. They are a type of cat that is warm and affectionate and bonds with their human very closely which means that the Siamese is not quite as independent as other cats. Having this close relationship with their human, they prefer and enjoy the inside restrictions of the home with their owners. They are a “people” cat like no other cat for they love to be on your lap, on your bed, at your dinner table, and in your heart!

Besides their gorgeous two-toned coat, another distinctive feature of this breed is that it has a very loud and distinctive low pitch to its voice. The Siamese meow has been compared to the cries of a human baby. The intensity of the vocalization should not be prolonged if you are smart enough to understand what they want. Most of the time the Siamese will talk at conversational levels, and they always have something very important to say. So the Siamese is very talkative.

In the hierarchy of cat intelligence, the Siamese stands on top. It has been indicated that Siamese and other oriental shorthairs are the most intelligent of all domesticated cats. Anyone who has owned one will brag about and the amazing feats that these cats can accomplish. You may want to “cat-proof” your home for a Siamese can learn how to open doors, cabinets, and latches. Actually these cats love the challenge of these feats, and will not give up. They find creative and unusual ways to get into trouble.

Because of their intelligence, Siamese are very lively and entertaining. They can also be very demanding, and can be totally involved in their owner’s life. Siamese do not like to be ignored and always want to be the center of attention. They regard themselves as people instead of cats. One thing for sure, you will never be bored if you own a Siamese cat.

In this busy day and age most people struggle to find time to do everything they want, and quite often spending time with the family cat is sacrificed for other things, such as TV and work. This is not only bad for your owner-cat relationship but also for your health and the health of your cat as pet owners who frequent with their pets are generally more healthy than non pet owners.

There are however some simple games that you can play with your cat that are fun for both of you, and don't require too much of your time.

3 Fun Games To Play With Your Cat

1) Cat's love to chase things, we all know this and know that they cannot help themselves. Using either a torch or preferably a laser pointer, start waving the light in front of your cat and watch them chase after it. You can run the light in circles, across the room, up the walls and the cats just love it. Whenever i pick up the laser pointer they get really excited and start purring, it's great fun and lets you bond with your cat.

2) Another chasing game that gives you some exercise as well is to get piece of string and move along with one end trailing behind you on the ground. Most cat's can't resist the urge to chase it and enjoy being able to pounce on it.

3) One game that younger cats enjoy is what i like to call hide and seek. Basically you hide behind something, get their attention, then duck back down and hide again. It's a bit like peek-a-boo with a small child but some cats enjoy it just as much.
