How can I fold up a large one door dog crate?

I have someone picking up a dog crate I bought from my friend a while back, problem is I don't know how to fold it up so they can get it in their car... PLEASE HELP!

You can only fold it down if it's meant to. If it is, you should be able to push down on the top while pulling out on the front door- it will unhook from the top, then you can fold it in. Then, you do the same with the back wall- fold it in. Then, lean it to one side and the side will fold down, lean it to the other side, and it should be folded. (Sorry- it's hard to describe)

Choosing a dog crate is an important first step in the process of crate training your dog. Of the three basic types of dog crates- wire mesh, hard plastic, or soft fabric- the wire mesh variety is the oldest, and perhaps the most popular. According to one source, the practice of keeping dogs in cages such as these began in the 1960s. An enterprising individual from Indiana apparently bought cages originally intended for burning trash, and began reselling them as dog crates. Today, despite the fact that they have been adopted by the competitive pet supply industry, the basic design has not changed much. However, there are a few factors to consider when purchasing a wire mesh dog crate.

This style of dog crate can be further split into two basic designs- the folding "suitcase-style" variety, versus "drop pin" designs. The difference refers to the manner in which the sides of the crate are connected. A drop pin is a long metal wire with a hooked end. By inserting the pin through a series of loops along the edges of the crate sides, it holds the entire assembly together. Although this process requires no tools or mechanical expertise, it is sufficiently time-consuming that these cages are not considered "collapsible".

Suitcase style designs, on the other hand, are hinged together in such a way that the entire cage can be collapsed flat when desired. These designs are not quite as sturdy as the drop pin design, but allow the user to transport the crate much more easily. They are popular with owners who must frequently transport their pet in crates- if you plan to show your dog or take it to agility competitions, this is a good choice.

Apart from the basic design, there are a few other features to look for. Many cages have a removable catch pan in the bottom for when the dog soils its crate. Unless your dog is thoroughly housebroken, you'll want one of these, which can be bought separately for about twenty bucks. On the contrary, if your dog is consistently soiling its crate, you may consider picking up a "floor grid"- a simple wire mesh floor that keeps your dog from sitting in its own waste in case of an "accident".

Finally, look at the quality of the cage. Test doors to make sure they swing open and closed easily, and latch securely. Check all welds and ends of wire for sharp edges that may injure your dog. Once you're assured of the quality and safety of the crate, you can buy with confidence, knowing your dog will have a happy and comfortable home.

Hi. My 1 year old cat had surgery yesterday as he has a broken leg, and needed a metal plate fitted in his leg. He is now at home, but the vet said he must stay in a cage, and they let us borrow a HUGE dog crate. His leg is shaved, and paw is swollen, the vet said that is normal and the swelling will go down. But he seems depressed, just sitting in the crate. I'm not even allowed to take him out for a cuddle, for at least 3 days! In his cage, he has food, litter and some folded towels as a bed. But the cage floor is just black plastic.

Yes. Cover the floor with a comforter or blanket for him. Offer him a treat once in a while. Make sure the temperature in the cage is just right. Brush him. Once he is out, reward him.

If you love gardening, you definitely dream of constructing your own greenhouse nursery. Just imagine how exciting and pleasing it is to walk through your garden full of vegetables, herbs and flowering plants secured and protected from destructive elements such as animals and insects. Once you've accomplished the above steps, you will have a strong and sturdy frame for your greenhouse. Next, place the plastic cover over the frame. You may need to cut the lengths of the cover to fit accurately to your frame. You can use the duct tape to keep the cover in place or you can also utilize plastic ties. It's important for the cover to be attached to every piece of the structure to inhibit any movement. An efficient duct taping technique with the aid of huge heavy rocks can help keep the cover in its place.

Ideas for adding a door or something at the bottom of my stairs so my dogs and cats cant get upstairs?

There has been some debate about the practicality of using the Mini as a family car, particularly if a baby is involved.

A rear facing child seat in the back of a Mini, even the new BMW Mini, is very awkward to fit and virtually impossible to get your child into once the seat is secured. It also restricts adjustment of the front seats which is not good if you have to put the child seat behind the driver's seat. I am told there are one or two models that will fit ok but you do have to shop around.

This also brings up the question regarding the feasibility of getting a pram or pushchair in the boot of a Mini. Buggy type pushchairs, particularly the umbrella-fold type will fit. Most pushchairs suitable for children over 6 months will fit if folded completely flat.

In my own experience, one of those all singing, all dancing new baby travel systems takes a degree in origami to fold it down and then an articulated lorry to transport it anywhere! These are nice to push but a nightmare for getting in any car, let alone one of those gorgeous BMW Mini's.

Of course, the Mini Clubman has a quite a bit more space than the older version. Officially. I would like to cast doubt on that statement. My sister had an old style Mini, typically orange in colour and we went everywhere in it. Both heavily pregnant we had no problem fitting in.

I could never understand how she managed to hit the vicar when pulling out of a parking space but that was more due to her shrunken pregnancy brain than the Mini itself!

Anyway, after the babies were born my sister acquired a dog. It was a cross between an Irish wolfhound and something that looked like it was out of Hound of the Baskervilles. It was also very drooly and completely barking mad. We needed to get to the launderette one day and the old Mini was the only form of transport we had between us.

We packed two babies, a dog, two buggies and two families washing into this Mini and made our way to the launderette. Of course, this was in the days before they came down so hard on wearing seat belts as, if I remember rightly, our noses were pressed up to the windscreen.

This led me to thinking, just how many people could you get into a used Mini?

Officially, it's four. However, experiments by people I believe may have been slightly inebriated at the time have resulted in a total of 22 occupants in the Mini.

Does this not depend on whether it is a newer style BMW Mini, a Mini Clubman or an old style Mini?
And would it make a difference if it were a used Mini?

If you take into account the wear and tear on the inner surfaces of a very old Mini, surely this would gain you a few extra centimetres. But what if it was a cherished Mini? These have been brought back to almost original condition and can even be re-upholstered. Depending on the upholstery material, would you be losing centimetres?

Of course, this is all debatable as the size of the people you try to fit in would make a drastic difference. Imagine trying to fit 22 men in a Mini if they were all 16 stone. Something would have to give - probably the suspension, windows, doors and more.
Now try and fit 22 women in a Mini, all size 10 and a measly 7 stone each. Doesn't that fit better? Add to that the fact that you could be gaining centimetres with worn upholstery and it makes it look positively easy!

I would like to see how many people of average size and build could be fitted into all styles of Mini. This would surely prove whether or not the extra space BMW claim to have put into the new style Mini would be worth having.
