Cat collar and name tags?

I'm take my kittens to the vet tomorrow to get them spayed. My question is, do I need to have nametags on them? They already have collars on them but I do need to get them collar id's for the vet?

Do not worry about them mixing up the cats.

When they are "checked in" if there is no name on the carrier, the staff will put a piece of tape on your carrier and write your last name on the tape.

As to identifying the individual cats, there is no need for that. They will not be put anywhere with other cats where they could be mistaken for another cat.

Vets and their staff are quite careful (or should be) to keep track of who is who.

I would recommend that you ask the vet about implanting microchip IDs in the kittens.

The chip is a RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chip which will transmit a unique number to a scanner when the scanner is brought close to the chip.

If your cat is lost and winds up at a shelter or a vet's, they will scan the cat for a chip. If there is a chip, they can contact the registry company, give them the ID number, and get your name, address, and telephone number. They will then contact you and you can go and get your cat.

A Pennsylvania Superior Court overturned a woman's conviction for conspiracy to commit cruelty to animals for shooting and killing her 6 year old pit bull/chow mix dog. She gave her boyfriend a handgun and had him shoot and kill the dog because, she said, it bit her child. She was found not guilty because, while Pennsylvania law states that it is illegal to shoot and kill a dog or cat, there is an addendum stating that an animal owner can lawfully kill a dog or cat if its done humanely. The law does not specify or define what is a humane way to kill your pet.

This law is obviously contradictory and therefore very confusing. Because of  this State's history with puppy mills, the Governor of Pennsylvania has sought and passed numerous laws to protect dogs and puppies from inhumane treatment. Part of the new legislation includes a law allowing only veterinarians to euthanize commercial kennel dogs.

Apparently this law does not apply to private pet owners. It is hard for me to understand why this should even be an issue, but some people see things differently. There must be people out there who keep guns in their homes and figure its best for them to deal with the "problem", whatever it may be, themselves. The attorney for the woman whose conviction was overturned said that some people don't have the money to have their pet euthanized at a clinic. I find this statement to be ridiculous because we all know that there are, sadly, still plenty of shelters that will euthanize pets if not adopted within a certain time period.

There was another case in Pennsylvania recently where a kennel owner shot and killed almost all of his dogs, 70 in all. He was told by inspectors that 39 of his dogs needed to be treated by a vet for flea and fly bites. He thought the state wanted to shut him down and the dogs were old so he "took care of" getting rid of them. He also said that business was so bad that he could not sell his puppies so he figured no one would want the older dogs. He will no longer be allowed to have a kennel business in Pennsylvania, but there were no charges filed for shooting and killing all his dogs. All he had to do was ask for help and shelters and rescues would have taken his dogs.

Pennsylvania has made many improvements in their dog laws aimed at eliminating puppy mills. There is still more work to do, including correcting and clarifying the law that allows dog owners to shoot and kill their dogs and dispose of them "humanely. There needs to be a clear, understandable law to deal with this issue.

How do I make my cat use the kitty litter?

I just adopted a new cat who is 3 years old and already knows how to use a kitty litter. We have another cat so we got her a whole other kitty littler that she could use but she won't use it. She finally peed on my bed but still won't use the kitty litter.
I've locked her in the bathroom where the litter is and she still won't use it. She'll lie down in it but that's it.
Anyone know how I can make her use the kitty litter because I really can't have her NOT using it.

Please call you vet today and make an appointment. Peeing outside the litterbox is the #1 symptom of urinary tract problems! FLUTD (Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease), formerly known as FUS (Feline Urinary Syndrome.) causes painful urination, which the cat may associate with the litterbox, thereby avoiding it. It’s also possible that the cat isn’t able to reach the litterbox in time, which explains why they go just outside it. If you ignore this, or, worse, make the mistake of scolding or punishing your cat, the illness can quickly become life-threatening. Take the peeing outside the litterbox as a scream for help and medical care. And if your cat does it in front of you, know that this is the loudest, in your face, cry for help she can give.

If the vet says she is okay, then consider making a few changes. If you use a covered litter box, take off the lid. Many cats refuse to use covered boxes due to concentrated smell. Cats prefer fine grained, low dust, unscented litter. So, you might try changing litter. Make sure you have at least one litter box per cat. Ideally, you should have one per cat plus one extra. Do not place litter boxes right next to each other because they cat might interpret the two boxes as one and then refuse to use the second box if the first box has any old urine or feces in it.

Scoop the litter box daily, preferable three times a day. Cats often refuse to use dirty boxes. It's the same reaction we have to using a toilet that hasn't been flushed. If your litter boxes are more than one year old, they may have absorbed odors even if you regularly clean them. This smell is offensive to kitty's sensitive nose. So, try buying new boxes. Make sure your litter boxes are in a place where the cat feels safe while going potty. If she is disturbed in any way while she is trying to potty, she will choose to use a safer location. Put a litter box on each floor of the house.

Finally, make sure you thoroughly clean all old urine spots. If she can smell the old urine she will think that place is a good place to pee. Use a fluorescent black light to find old urine and treat all old spots with an enzymatic cleanser. The black light will make urine fluoresce in the dark, making it much easier to find and clean all of it. The best cleaner to use is Get Serious Pet Stain Remover & Odor Extractor. If you get all of the urine cleaned, it will not be necessary to use detractors sold at pet supply stores.

Cat lovers know all too well that one of the biggest challenges of owning a cat is trying to figure out how to stop your cat from scratching furniture. Nothing can be more frustrating than watching your lovable kitty scratch and claw your new couch to shreds. What to do?

Understand that scratching and clawing are natural behaviors for your cat and you cannot prevent it from happening, but you can train kitty to scratch only in certain areas.

Cats actually scratch for two reasons. The first reason everybody thinks of is your cat's need to sharpen their claws. But the second reason, the one that's not so obvious, is your cat's desire to leave their territorial mark. This is especially true when you catch your cat scratching and clawing the furniture or carpet in particular.

Cats leave their scent from the sweat glands on and in between the pads of their paws. The scent left behind says, 'Hey there buster, I am here, and this is my territory.' Once their scent is on something, such as your furniture or carpet, they often will return to the object and apply their scent again.

Understanding this about your cat's behavior is valuable information that we can use to our advantage to help train kitty to use a scratching post. If we can get kitty's scent on the post (a little catnip on the post would do the trick), kitty will likely scratch the post then come back to the post later on to replenish the scent. And since cats scratch most frequently right after they wake up it's very important that the scratching post is convenient to where they spend much of their time.

However, since your cat has already scratched your furniture, you will have to use an enzyme cleaner to eliminate the cat's scent or kitty will keep returning to the scratching spot. Then you must spray daily with one of the products designed to keep pets away by leaving an odor they prefer not to be around (but is OK for you and I ) like those Citronella sprays.

Finally, when your cat uses the scratching post, provide lots of positive reinforcement and jump up and down and shout Hooray! Kitty is now using her furniture instead of yours.

In this busy day and age most people struggle to find time to do everything they want, and quite often spending time with the family cat is sacrificed for other things, such as TV and work. 1) Cat's love to chase things, we all know this and know that they cannot help themselves. 3) One game that younger cats enjoy is what i like to call hide and seek. Basically you hide behind something, get their attention, then duck back down and hide again. It's a bit like peek-a-boo with a small child but some cats enjoy it just as much.

which is the best value but still quality hotel in Vegas for a few days fun?

Probably Imperial Palace generally unless you get a special offer for one of the others. I stayed at IP a few years ago and it was absolutely fine, nothing fancy but clean and a good location. One of my colleagues stays here a lot.

I've just booked Bally's for September and have got a delux room for approx £40 a night. They have a special offer on and I was sent an email (as a past guest). I'm really pleased to have got this hotel as I've stayed here twice before and love it. We could have booked a classic room for about £30 a night but I upgraded. The offer is running until September so if you're going before then, it's definitely worth trying.

Edit - note for juiiced - you'll see I said I got the room for 40 pounds a night, not dollars - there's a big difference. I've never had a free room and I certainly don't gamble enough to qualify for one! I've forwarded the emails to the lady that asked the question so she can book it herself.

How do I train my baby Pomeranian to pee out side. He is 9 weeks old and such a cute dog.?

I would like to have some suggestions on how to train are Pomeranian to pee out side instead of all over the house. We have been putting his nose into the pee and tapping his nose and yelling bad dog and then placing out side, however he does not learn. He is driving me nuts and making my house stink. Please any advice would be very helpful.

hmmm...just took the carpet cleaner back myself!.l.o.l. ok...take him out on the hour every hour into the garden and say your pee/poo command over and over whilst out there. i say "get it done then" when he does wee or poo, give him a small edible treat and make a huge fuss of him. you must do this for at least 3 or 4 weeks so he learns to assosciate toilet outside with good treats and happy feelings. don't scold him if he has an accident in the house....i know it's hard but try to ignore it..just clean it up silently then take him outside again and treat if he does one there. if you scold him, he won't understand...the neurons aren't there at that age for him to understand...he'll just get a fear reaction and get stressed...then he'll try and find some where else in the house to do it...not good. you just have to persevere i'm afraid. feed him his last meal of the day at about 5.30 pm and take him out last thing at about 10-10.30 pm. as soon as you get up in the morning he needs to go out again...not the best when it's peeing down and you've just woken up but it's either that or it's back to cleaning carpets.

do not rub his nose in it again! he is not human and cannot understand what he's done.....all you're doing is abusing him.....don't worry...i was told by some one else to do the same thing till i educated myself about dog psycholoy.....think of it this way...would you expect a nine week old baby to be able to control it's bladder? of course not....be nice to him...do the hourly trip to the garden loo..lots of love and treats and it will work i promise.

How do I convince my mom to let me have a cat/kitten?

I have one half indoor/outdoor cat who hates playing and doesn't exactly like me... I really want to adopt a kitten from an animal shelter. My mom says one cat is enough... How do I convince her????
Also I told her about how some cats/dogs are getting killed because no one wants them. I love cats and my other one is more outdoor so all she wants is food when she comes home.

Kids love candy and many also love the Indianapolis 500, just like their parents. There is not better way to entertain the kids at your Indianapolis 500 party than by combining the two into a fun craft project. Get your little guests into making a candy race car!

Candy Race Car

For this fun craft project you'll need the following items; Low temp hot glue gun, Ribbons or yarn for hanging, 1 large package of gum, 4 round wrapped candies, 1 shiny wrapped candy, and 2 mini chocolate bars.

Once you've completed the candy race car for the Indianapolis `500 party you'll be able to keep it as an ornament, play with it or eat it. Just make sure that if you plan on eating these candy race cars, you don't apply to any part of the actual candy, just on the outer wrappers.

Begin your Indianapolis 500 craft car by gluing the shiny wrapped candy to the front of the gum pack. This will serve as a bumper for your race car. Wrap any extra candy wrapping around the edges of the gum pack to serve as the sides of the bumper. Next you'll glue on the four round candies to serve as wheels for your Indianapolis 500 racecar. Then, glue one mini candy bar to the back half of the car. Placing this mini candy bar so that it sticks off the back of the gum package by ¼ of an inch.

Finally you'll glue the other mini candy bar so that it lays perpendicular to and on top of the first mini candy bar you glued onto the big gum pack. Make sure that at least half of this second candy bar extends past the edge of the first candy bar.

This will create the spoiler of your Indianapolis 500 race car and completes your party craft project. For extra safety, make sure an adult handles the glue gun.
