My dog wont walk on the leash/ lead?
My sister really does not walk her dog. Her cocker spaniel is now 2 years old and wont walk on the lead/ leash? I have been taking her out like she is my dog every day and she wont walk. You have to drag her outside and then she just sits there or tries to go inside. She wont eat the treats i offer her outside - but she will eat them inside. So i cant offer her treats and i am not dragging her up the street. How should i get her to walk on the leash/ lead when she wont eat the treats??. And i cant walk her off leash/lead because she is kind of aggressive.

Put the leash on inside the house and let her drag it around, supervised, so she gets used to the idea of a leash. After awhile, pick up the leash inside the house and walk a few steps, and praise her. When she gets used to that, take her into the yard with the leash and if she behaves, praise her.
Consider a walk a gradual process. For now just get her used to the leash and having someone hang onto it for a few steps.

The concept behind the prongs is to give your dog a pinch around his/her neck, which resembles their mother's teeth when she grabs the scruff of the pup's neck. These collars can be very effective in training large strong breeds where the owner is weaker then the dog if used properly. However, if your dog consistently pulls and tugs against the leash this probably is not the best choice, a body harness will give your dog the opportunity to learn at their pace without choking.
Electronic dog collars also have their place in accomplishing training goals. There are two goals, one to control excessive barking, and one for roaming or with radio fencing. No matter how well you have socialized your dog some dogs just refuse to be good neighbors, barking continuously while in the yard.
The idea of electronic collars in this circumstance is when your dog is barking uncontrollably you press a button delivering a "shock." Over time, they will learn proper behavior when in the yard. Radio fencing has become quite popular, as many new subdivisions do not allow standard fencing. When your dog gets too close to the wire, it delivers a shock. This can work well if your dog likes to roam from the yard, however, a hound dog breed's instincts will take over and they will chase anything smaller then they are. This type of dog collar will then prevent him/her from returning home when they calm down.
Martingale collars offer a good alternative to choke collars while providing some of the same benefits. They provide the convenience of adjustable sizing with the safety of a limited range choke. A slight tug on the leash tightens the collar without choking the dog. Martingale leads sometimes referred to as "Dog Show collars" are an all in one option for pet owners and come in a variety of colors, leather, or nylon.
Nylon collars offer pet owners some fashion as well as safety without breaking the budget. If you are a nightwalker and enjoy a stroll with your dog through the neighborhood then a reflective nylon dog collar is a good choice. Nylon collars are adjustable and come in a variety of colors, albeit not much of a training collar, nonetheless, great for walking while adding some fashion and safety.

Dog Collar Safety:
Choosing a dog collar also requires some thought as to what kind of leash or lead you will be attaching to the collar. To begin with, collars should never be too snug around an animal's neck, but they also shouldn't be loose enough for an animal's head to slide through. Not only is it easy for an animal to slip out of a loose collar and run away or be hurt, but a collar that is too loose can also become more easily hooked onto other objects and possibly result in the dog becoming hung by the neck and perhaps choking to death. A collar should always be sturdy enough for a leash to be attached to, should always fit comfortably and safely around a dog's neck, and should always be made of a material that does not scratch or irritate the dog's neck area.
Function Before Fashion:
So, while it may be tempting to select a collar and leash that makes a fashion statement, owners are advised to resist trendier, designer-type collars and leashes unless they are made in a way that serves an actual purpose for the dog's best interest. Never forget that collars and leashes are also training and communication tools for your dog and that your first priority is to keep in mind what you will be using the collar and the leash for. Choosing the right dog collar and leads for your dog can still be as fun as buying dog clothes. There are many types, colors, patterns and styles to choose from, so enjoy the selection process. Just be sure to remember that, while style counts, functionality is your main objective.

Whether you are training a puppy or you are looking to control an older dog that you have adopted, you may find that you are considering the use of a head halter. Head halters for dogs are becoming increasingly common and if you are looking for a lead that will allow you to restrain your dog without injuring him or causing him distress, this is something to think about. More and more people are realizing that choke chains and prong collars can be dangerous if the dog is in the habit of pulling hard, and this is where head halters come in.
What is a head halter?
Essentially, a head halter is a collection of straps that fit around your dog's head which will give you more control over him. A head halter has a leather strap that goes around your dog's nose and a second strap that loops around his neck, behind his hears. The leash portion of the halter will attach to a ring underneath the dog's chin, which in turn is attached to his nose strap. This is where all the pull is going to when you are out walking with your dog.
Why does a head halter work?
When you are out walking your dog and he decides that he wants to take off, he is going to be putting pressure on the nose strap, which in turn will affect the fit of the ring underneath his chin. The end result is that when he pulls in this fashion, his nose gets brought back to you. This will help him realize that he should not pull away, and it will do it with fewer dangerous consequences than exist with a prong collar or a choke chain. This can be an important training aid for your dog, and when you are thinking about making sure that he will heed you, this is one way to do it.
How should the head halter be fitted?
When in doubt, ask a knowledgeable salesperson how a head halter should fit. Remember that the neck strap should sit as high up on your dog's neck as it is possible to get. Slide a finger between the strap and your dog to make sure that it is not too tight. With the nose strap, it should sit on the border of your dog's skin and his nose when his mouth is closed. Make sure that it is not so loose that it slides off, though. The nose strap will naturally sit right underneath your dog's eyes. Again, if you have any doubts, watch your dog for signs of discomfort or pain. Many dogs will try to paw the halter off at the beginning, but it usually takes no time at all for your dog to get used to it.

I just bought my puppy roxy a her first collar it was a lead laisse but she kept on crying and going back and she wouldnt go outside what kind of collar should i buy her
puppys will fight in the beginning of leash training to see if they can get away with not being walked on a leash. if you put her on the a leash and she backs up and fights it, just stand there and wait for her to stop, when she does and comes to you praise her!!! be patient she will soon learn that being on a leash is not the end of the world.

Positive reinforcement in dog leash training means every time your puppy performs well, you should praise lavishly and you can give your dog a small treat. The positive reinforcement method works much better than any other method available for training dogs.
You will need to take your dog for a walk on a leash once or twice a day so it gets the required exercise and it can relieve itself outside, unless you live on a ranch of course, and your dog can walk by himself whenever he wants. A certain amount of discipline will be needed from the dog if you do not want to be running after it and screaming at it every time it wants to chase something or someone, which usually happens with young puppies. This discipline while walking on a leash is called - dog leash training.
Dog leash training should be started in friendly and known for dog environment. Otherwise the puppy would be too busy inspecting the new place than listen to what you have to say. The best place would be the front of your house, or the backyard, or where usually take your dog for a walk. You can use a nylon lead for the first time which is light and yet strong enough, or a choker collar would be good to keep the dog from pulling on the lead, though the best would be gentle tugging with a stern command.
As mentioned before, the best way for your dog leash training is the positive reinforcement method. You walk in front of the dog and call it to you. When it comes, you give it a treat and praise it. Keep repeating this process while gradually increasing the distance you have the dog walk with you, along with you. Every time it does it without pulling or staying behind you reward it. It will surely take time and patience, but it will be fun for you and the dog.
Don't forget that a puppy is not only joy, you have responsibilities as well. Train your dog so you could be proud of him!

Does the Libbey Gibraltar Cooler Glass Set contain lead?

These look solid and durable, but do not specifically say "lead-free" as I have seen in other brands. Yet they also do not say "lead crystal" as I have also seen in other brands.
So, does anyone out there know? I'm trying to avoid lead.
These are glass. They are much too thick to be crystal. Besides crystal usually will say whatever percentage of lead it has. The lead gives it clarity and makes it easier to cut. I would imagine that these are pressed glasses. And don't worry about drinking out of a lead glass. To be harmful the liquid would have to sit in the lead for hours or days to leach and cause any harm. That's why you don't see crystal decanters anymore, because the brandy or sherry was stored in the decanter. My grandmother had no problems.
Anyway they look nice. Enjoy.

Choker Collar
can a dog wear a chain link choker collar all the time ?
i have a year old german Shepherd and have been looking 4 a collar as she used 2 wear one with her last owner but the only ones i like are the chain link chokers and was worried that it would be bad 4 her 2 wear it all the time
I was, for the longest time, a firm believer in not using a choke chain collar except for training, and even then I would rather use a pinch collar (the ones with prongs) to avoid hurting the dog's windpipe if we had a dog that pulled (I used to walk dogs locally).
Then I got my newest dog, who is an Aussi Cattle Dog. We tried nylon. We tried cotton. We tried flat leather. We tried rolled leather. We have 6 or 7 collars for this dog that just rubbed his neck raw. They WERE the correct size, but it just rubbed his fur off. We even tried various harnesses that sat in different places on his neck and nothing seemed to work.
So I went for the choke chain collar with the fabric threaded through it to keep it from making so much noise. It's on loose like it's supposed to be, and it has his tags on, and ta-da..it does NOT rub his neck raw and it's the only thing that won't.
While I recommend against it, it is possible. We don't have any low bushes or posts that he would be likely to get caught on, and we have new chain link fence. If I take him to the pastures, I change to a flat, bright orange nylon collar so he can run around. As soon as we get back in the car, he gets his regular chain collar on. I bought tags (and asked for spare rabies tags) for BOTH collars.
So he has his traveling collar and his normal chain collar. He only wears his nylon collar in the car and out in the pastures. Around the house and backyard, he's fine with his chain.
I WOULD NOT do it for aesthetic purposes, but if you must, you will be fine if you keep an eye on the dog and don't let her out on her own where she might get hung. If you're not sure, I'd look for something else if you could. And if you DO go for that, make sure to put the tags on and look into getting one with fabric woven through it, otherwise the jingling will drive you NUTS.

Searching for dog collars for your favorite pet can seem like an endless task because there are such an overwhelming variety of collars available. Although you may think it is as simple as heading to a pet store and picking out a dog collar, you really need to consider all of the different types, as well as the reasons that you need one, before you make a purchase.
Harness Collars
These collars are excellent for small, short nosed or short necked dogs, because a harness collar is meant to keep these dogs from feeling choked. Although it may look harmful or painful to the dog, it is actually considered safer by some training experts because they are not choking themselves, as with the choker chain.
Light and Reflector Collars
If you are in the habit of taking your dog for a walk at night, either on or off leash, or if you have a large back yard and can’t find your dog at night to bring him back in, you may want to invest in a lit or reflector collar. A lighted collar can be turned on and off, so that you can turn it on before a dog is let off the leash or is let out in the yard to play at night. The collar will let off a steady or blinking red or yellow light that lets you know where the dog is at in the yard.
Keep in mind that because of the light, this type of collar will almost always cost more than a traditional collar because it will come with a battery. As well, the battery will need to be replaced on a regular basis, depending on how often you use it. If you don’t want to bother with replacing the battery, you may opt for an easier reflective collar, although these will only give off light when a light is shined on them.
Designer Dog Collars
A variety of novelty dog collars are available for your pet in an endless variety. At specialty dog stores or ordered online, you can choose from sports team collars, luxury collars that have stones embedded in the material, and even handcrafted leather collars that come in a variety of different leather stained colors. Depending on the types of collars you find, you may also be able to purchase a matching leash, so that the leash and collar coordinate. Remember that because you are purchasing a specialty or novelty dog collar, you may be paying quite a bit more than you would for a basic one.
Electric Fence Collars
Electric fences are becoming a popular and less expensive way to keep your dog contained within your yard. Although electric fences are cheaper than the traditional wooden or wrought iron fence, they will still cost between a few hundred to a thousand dollars depending on the size of the yard. If your dog spends a substantial amount of time outside, this is a sound investment though. The electric dog collars that accompany the fence will remain around a dog’s neck whenever it is outside and will send off a slight shock if the dog goes outside the yard boundaries that are set in place.
