I live in Singapore - does anyone know where I can buy the cosmic alpine cat scratcher? ?

I have also searched online and I a can't find anyone that will post to Singapore.

This is a really long shot... they DO have cat shows in that part of the world.

Contact the local cat club to find out when their next show is & who their judges are. If you are lucky, you will find either a judge or exhibitor flying in from the USA who would be willing to bring you one if you sent them the money via Pay Pal.

I know one each breeder/exhibitor in China & Thailand - no idea what a "cosmic alpine cat scratcher" is.

Scratchers? Peelers? What kind of fundraiser is that? That is what I wondered the first time I heard of them.

Scratch cards and peel cards are types of fundraising cards that offer discounts at local business. There are several advantages to raising funds with peelers and scratchers. The advantages are:

They do not take up much space and your organization does not have to store, refrigerate or deliver them.

They offer discounts at businesses that most people already patronize.

They are inexpensive and the profit margin can be from 50 percent to as much as 90 percent.

Most of the cards have an expiration date of one year to three years so you can sell them for an extended period of time.

And, you can usually return the unsold cards to the fundraising company.

Scratch cards, also known as "skratchers" are slightly different than peelers. Each seller in your organization starts with just one scratch card. They ask the purchaser to scratch off a spot on the card and donate the amount that is revealed to the organization. The amount can be anywhere from fifty cents to three dollars. As a thank you, the donor receives a sheet of discount coupons from local businesses. One scratch card, when it is completely sold out is usually worth $100.00 with your organization keeping $80.00 to $90.00.

Peelers are usually wallet-size cards featuring mini coupon stickers that the business peels off when they are redeemed. Peeler cards can offer discounts from just one merchant or they can offer discounts from a variety of local merchants. Some popular peelers offer discounts on Midas Muffler services, Jiffy Lubes, McDonalds, and Subway, just to name a few.

Pizza peelers are available from just about every national pizza franchise, so you should be able to sell pizza peelers in your community quite easily. Most pizza peelers sell for $10.00 with your organization keeping $5.00 or 50 percent of the profit.

You can find companies that distribute peelers and scratchers by doing a search on the internet. So, get busy scratching or peeling with your next fundraiser!

Scratching Post
How many times does your cat use it's scratching post.?

My new cat is a peach.
She LOVES her scratching post.

Depends on the cat! 1 of mine uses it every day a few times a day as the mood strikes him. 1 uses it every once in a while. The other one has ruined all the furniture.

Maybe your cat is bored and you need to play with it more?

Take a look at it's paws/claws to make sure they look healthy, that the claws are not overgrown or look infected.

Maybe you know this since you've had foster cats....
Maybe you need to CAREFULLY clip her nails every couple of weeks. You have to NOT cut the quick(usually you can see pinkish flesh near the base of the nail/ blood vessels) so just clip the tips of the nails. I do it when my cats are sleepy and I do it with GOOD SUNLIGHT so I can clearly see their nails. Most cats don't like having their nails clipped. Be gentle, patient. Give her a treat after. Why do cats use a scratching post

The post is not only used for scratching but also for stretching because while trying to scratch himself, the cat will stretch his whole body towards the post. 4. Marking the post for territorial purposes. 5. Just for the fun of it.

Outdoor cats usually use wooden fences or objects for scratching, so a good scratching post would be one made of wood. A cat owner can get firewood or a log and convert it into a scratching post. Others who are still training their cats make do with the less expensive cardboard posts.

Since the primary use of the post is for the cats to sharpen their claws, the scratching post must be upright and steady. It should also be tall enough, or a half size more than the cat, to make sure your cat can stretch his whole body on the post. Much care should be placed in choosing the right post because if the cat feels it is not steady enough for him, then he might not use it and will revert to scratching your furniture.

Cat Scratching Tree
My cat has a mulit-tier cat tree for climbing and scratching, but he never uses it. Help?

About a week ago I bought my cat Connor a cat tree. Its sole purpose is for scratching and climbing, yet he ignores it like he ignores it. I have put him on it a few times and he will scratch it once or twice, take in the nice higher view and jump off. It has 3 tiers to it. the top is about 6ft up then 4 then 2ft off the ground for the last one. I put him on the 4ft one so its not high because he can just jump to the dresser where his food is. he makes that jump all the time from the bed. Its like he just is plainly uninterested, whereas my sisters cats would give their tails for one of these she says. Any help on getting Connor a tad more interested in it before i give it to my sisters cats?

You can try one of these two method to teach your kitten/cat to use the scratching post and better utilize the cat tree.

Method One

Hold treats near the post to get your cat to come near the post. Slowly, make your cat come closer and closer to the post to get the treat. Then increase the height at which you are holding the treat so your cat must put his paws up the post to reach the treat. Gradually increase the height at which you hold the treat so that your cat eventually has to climb to the top in order to get the treat. This training session is a slow process to be worked on each day, making small progress each time you work on it.

Method Two

Using the kind of cat toys that are at the end of a string, dangle, drag, and swing one of your cat's toys. Do this on and around the post. Use the scratching post as the play area. Your cat will climb up and down and around his post to try to reach his toy. By doing this, his post will be a place of fun and good memories.

Spray that cats don’t like?

My 1 year old Maine Coon keeps scratching up the back of the leather office chair. First off declawing is out of the question & cutting his nails would properly be a 4 person job. He has heaps of Scratching Posts, Cardboard Cat Scratchers, Toys & his favorite Skippy Peanut Butter Box (Don’t ask I don’t know why!) I rub Catnip in to his scratchers & I have been looking for a spray for the chair but everywhere I ask they never seem to have any, I asked at PetCo & Pet Smart just today!!
Am I going crazy or is this a conspiracy? Can anyone tell me where to get something in New Hampshire? Can anyone give me a homemade recipe?

Scratching is a normal and necessary behavior for cats. Scratching allows them to shed the outer layer of their claws, mark their territory (cats have scent glands on the pads of their feet and when they scratch they leave their scent behind as their way of saying "this is my territory") and provides a great way for them stretch out their muscles. Scratching is such an instinctive behavior in cats that even cats who have been declawed scratch on a regular basis.

Of course, knowing that scratching is a normal part of cat behavior is all well and good and does nothing to prevent you from tearing your hair out when your cat is using your couch as his favorite scratching post. Here are some tips for keeping your cat happy and your furniture and drapes intact. First, keep your cat's nails trimmed to help blunt damage to the furniture.

Second, provide your cat with a good quality scratching post. This is frequently the easiest and cheapest solution to solving the scratching problem. Quality scratchers are easy to come by, and can cost as little as $12-16 dollars. Offer your cat two or three quality cat scratchers and make sure they're well positioned! Cats love to scratch right after they wake up from a nap, so it is a good idea to put a scratcher near where your cat likes to sleep.

Third, use a harmless deterrent like Sticky Paws on your furniture. These simple steps will save your furniture and greatly improve your relationship with your cat.

The dark tower-- Just posted this in the wrong place?

Where in the Dark Tower does Roland describe khef? Is the expression khef tet used? Is there a phrase in the high speech which means "soul mate"?

In "Low Men in Yellow Coats" from "Hearts in Atlantis", one of the low men says that Bobby is Ted Brautigan's "te-ka", which means "destiny's friend". Here's the exact quote:

"He loves you so much, Teddy. You're his te-ka. Aren't you? That means destiny's friend, Bobby-O. Isn't that what this old smoky-smelling Teddy-bear is to you? Your destiny's friend?"

That's on page 286 of the paperback version. I think it comes pretty close to "soul mate".

I can't remember which book tells the meaning of "khef" first, but "khef" is the sharing of water. I remember in the 7th book, the night before the attack on Blue Heaven, Roland's ka-tet shares khef with Ted, Sheemie, and Dinkie and it's described as a very solemn and sacred event.

Does your cat like Ikea Scratching post (BÄSTIS BLOND)?

I am thinking of getting an Ikea Cat Scratching Post (BÄSTIS BLOND). It looks good and it's wall mounted so it won't take much space... but I am worried if cats would like this cat tree. Does any of you have this product at home for your cats? Does your cats use it?

For the price ($89.99) it looks rather rickety. Not sure how a cat is expected to get to those higher shelves. I'd be afraid those wimpy shelves would break and the cat would fall. And this is coming from someone who's a total IKEA addict - my whole house is IKEA.

Some cats are furniture diggers and some aren't. And if you've ever had the back of a chair or the arms of a sofa reduced to fringe, you know the galactic-level frustration of having one that is. Since scratching is an innate feline behavior, you're never going to put a complete stop to it. But there are ways to get cats to answer this call of nature in a way that doesn't destroy your property.

Be clear on two things: one, you're never going to get a cat to stop scratching. It's an innate behavior that serves a whole lot of feline purposes, from stretching to territorial marking. And two, punishment (hitting, shouting, etc.) is never, ever going to work. Cats just don't understand or respond to punishment. Trying to punish a cat out of undesirable behavior will almost certainly destroy your relationship with the cat, and may even exacerbate exactly the behavior you're trying to eradicate. For those of us who refuse to even consider declawing, the key to happy co-existence with furniture diggers is to make them understand that the furniture is off limits for scratching. Here are some ways to do that.

1. Give the cat an alternative by setting up a scratching post. There are lots of commercial scratching posts available, mostly some variation on a carpet-covered block. The design particulars aren't very important, but the post should be tall enough to give the cat a good stretch (28" - 30" or so) and it must be heavy enough to remain upright when being scratched. If it falls over on top of the cat every time he tries to use it (and yes, I once had one that did just that), it kind of defeats your purpose. I've tried many types of scratching posts and without a doubt, the one that got the most action was a big, flat-bottomed section of a huge log, about two feet high and a foot and a half wide.

Put your new scratching post right in front of whatever it is the cat has been scratching. Granted, a two-foot stump might not be exactly the perfect accent to your decor, but then neither is shredded upholstery. If the cat really likes it, you can always gradually move it to a less conspicuous place. If you meet with a lot of resistance, try rubbing it with catnip.

2. Go on the defense by covering the area that's being scratched with a material cats don't like. Wide smooth tape like postal strapping tape works well. Duct tape works too, but it looks almost as bad as the scratched upholstery. Or try covering the area with aluminum foil taped in place (looks REALLY awful, but can work wonders). If none of those coverings work, try covering the area with double-sided tape. Cats hate sticky surfaces.

3. Go on the offensive. If you can actually catch the cat in mid-dig, a quick shot with a water pistol or a spray bottle full of water is pretty effective. So is blowing a whistle or banging a tin pan. This is a tricky one, though, because point here is NOT to punish the cat, it's to make her associate scratching the furniture with something she isn't nuts about (water or loud noises).

Yorkie poo is scratching all of the time and is starting to lose hair?

I have an 11 yr old yorkie poo, all of a sudden he is scratching all of the time and now I'm finding little clumps of hair all over. I have tried the oatmeal and tee tree shampoo but it hasn't helped. Does anybody have any ideas of what I can do.

Allergies! My yorkshire terrier has that same problem and he has to get a shot. But the thing is he didnt start it till he was older. Take him/her to the vet and see if its an allergy.
