i have a 10 gal s wtr tank wth 5 gaL sump how do i eliminate micro bubbles coming from the sump?

1 p skimmer 1 1200 maxi jet thats in sump hooked to 1\4 in hose in main tank i have 1 maxie 400 for current and a catilina 900 for the return back to sump via 3\4in pvc and 3\4in hose +2 waliworld pumps in sump for filtration

put a divider in the sump that separates the sump into sections that the water will just over flow. have one side that water flows into (keep the skimmer on this side) and pump out of the other side. Keep the return pumps intake as close to the bottom as possible

The over flow will only allow bubbles at the surface to pass and your return won't get those

An airport shuttle, airport shuttle bus or airport bus is a type of bus utilized in transporting people to, from or even within airports. They are usually incorporate special branding and have larger luggage space as compared to an ordinary bus. These airport shuttles have been used since the 1960s - from the time British European Airways, a nationalized operator, employed the Routemaster archetypal London red buses in a somewhat blue & white livery and with luggage trailers servicing Heathrow Airport.

Some of the types of airport shuttle operation include:

On airport transfers - This is when a bus transport in an airport is operated by the airline, airport owner or contractor for either. It can take on the form of an airside transfer if airports don't use a Jet bridge, for safety reasons or for long distance type of transfers wherein passengers are transferred from the airport's terminal departure or arrival gate towards the aircraft. This is also called the apron bus or they can use a trailers bus. These buses are commonly fitted with either a minimal or no seating capacity so; passengers need to stand during the journey. Sometimes, they may have driving cabs on both ends.

Terminal transfers are for cases wherein the airport has multiple terminals that are apart or aren't physically connected. This is also for cases where there's no transfer alternative. These are commonly "zero-fare" transfer buses that transfer connecting passengers coming from one terminal to the other.

Car park transfers are for cases wherein the airport owned or the affiliated car parks are relatively far from the airport's terminal building. In this case, the airport owner or the contractor provides complimentary car park shuttle buses to make circular or even shuttle runs in-between car park bus stands and terminals.

Off airport transfers - This is when a third party company offers services to airport passengers and operates these buses as part of the business. These entail pick-up and drop-off points close to the airport terminal. Aside from having extra luggage space, these services are able to provide cheap car parking some distances from the airport through transfers to shuttle buses. This can take the form of full sized buses, mini buses, luxury coaches or those that may have luggage trailers.

Car rental companies can also provide off airport transfers. These companies often have off-site vehicles wherein they transfer their customers through regular buses.

what lighting gives the best simulation of daylight?

What bulbs give intense light that is the same color as natural daylight? - I'm thinking of full spectrum bulbs like for a reef aquarium or for indoor growing. Which have the most attractive, warm white color, in your opinion?

Please be specific? (brand and type) Cost is not an object

My favorite are full spectrum fluorescent by Lights America.

Live Fish

Is it possible for a fish to live in a glass bowl?

I'm planning to get a fish (gold fish in general) for a pet, and I'm wondering whether it's possible for fishes to live only in a glass bowl, without any electrical aid, like an air pump or oxygen pump. I want something really plain and simple, like the ones you see in movies where the side of the table is decorated by a glass bowl with a fish. So, if I were to get that, will the fish live?

Hi, I hope I can persuade you to change your plans! First off the simple answer to your question is yes it is possible for a fish to live in a glass bowl but it really isn't much of a life. Look at it this way-despite popular belief that fish are stupid, short lived & have a 3 second memory the facts are that fish are extremely intelligent, friendly, inquisitive, long-lived creatures with good memories & can grow well over a foot in length so to incarcerate one in a tiny bowl is plain cruelty.

He will have a miserable short life & will die from either suffocating on his own waste, 'stunting' where his internal organs grow while his body doesn't or he'll simply go stir-crazy in a featureless sphere with nothing to do. Those iconic images of Goldfish in bowls you see in Hollywood movies are borne out of nothing but pure ignorance where the feelings of a living creature are ignored & he is reduced to nothing more than an ornament for our entertainment.

Keeping fish is like looking after any other living creature that we choose to share our lives with-we have a moral duty to provide it with the best possible care & do as much research as we can to that end. No fish deserves anything less than a large, filtered tank with a fitted lid.

The first link tells you in great detail about why bowls are a bad idea all round [pun intended] & the second one shows you some fish that are ideal to keep in unfiltered bowls!

One of the most popular fish to go out and catch, or should I say attempt to catch, is the crappie. People from all over the country fish for these little beauties, mostly because they provide such great table fare. Of all the fish swimming is freshwater, crappie are in the running for the best tasting. Their light flaky meat is much like the flesh of a walleye, only a bit "sweeter". There are many techniques that can be used to catch crappie, but two of the most popular have to be live minnows and/or small jigs. I'll give a brief synopsis of both in this article to give you an overview.

Live Minnows - The most popular way to catch Crappie is probably through the use of live minnows. Most anglers use a size 4 or 6 hook, hook it through the minnows back, place this live minnow under a bobber and fish for Crappie. Although this technique works, there are better ways to present you live minnow to the fish. The easiest way is through the use of gang hooks. Gang hooks are simply 2 small hooks tied in tandem. So, in the case of Crappie, the angler should first tie a small barrel swivel onto their line. Then tie a #8 or #10 set of gang hooks onto the other end of the barrel swivel. Now, take a live minnow and hook it through the lips of the top hook (I always leave the second hook "floating free", but hooking the second hook into the minnows' back works as well). Now place your bobber onto you line and your good to go. Hooking the minnow through the lips does little or no damage, and the minnow lives for a very long time, which is good because live minnows can be a bit pricey. The longer you can keep your bait "alive", the better. The gang hook technique is very effective for catching crappie.

Small Jigs - Small jigs are also a very popular technique for catching Crappie. The twister tail that you place on the jig is the important part. There are no hard and fast rules as far as color is concerned, so experimentation is the key. One thing that I have found is that Berkley's "Power" version of twister tails work quite well. In some cases these "power tails" will even out fish live minnows. Again, as far as what color to use, experimentation is the key. Another very effective technique when it comes to jigging for Crappie is to tip your jig with a live minnow. Simply hook a minnow through the lips onto the hook of your jig, and your jip is "tipped".

The two techniques mentioned in this article are the most popular and most effective way to catch Crappie. Are there other ways to catch these delectable fish? Of course, but these two are the most effective. I recently saw a "crappie rig" in the local tackle shop, and thought I should mention it. It was a contraption with like 3 large hooks coming off of it, with a sort of wire that kept the three hooks from getting tangled. It looks somewhat like a "tree", for lack of a better way to describe it. I was flabbergasted by this thing, and quite frankly a bit scared. Please, I beg of you, never buy or use a contraption such the kind I'm attempting to describe. Remember what Steven Wright said of fishermen, "There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot." Using rigs like the "crappie rig" make us look like idiots!

Halide Aquarium
Aquarium Lighting - Metal Halide - Saltwater Reef - Effects and Precautions?

I've got a 24 gallon saltwater reef tank, and I just got in the mail my new 250 watt metal halide system (15,000k). Prior, I've been using a 120 watt compact fluorescent system. My question is what special precautions should I be mindful of as I install this new system:

- Heat?
- UV penetration effecting the health of the fish?
- Dangerous effects from the light on people (the light will be hanging from the ceiling and will be in a living room)?
- Any other concerns?

Thanks.

You'll need to replace the bulbs quite often. Typically, every nine months to a year or so.

Heat is a HUGE issue. You'll need to ensure good fans keep it cool. Monitor your water temp regularly because the lights will heat up the water (especially a 24 gallon tank). Noise will definitely get annoying. The fan motors can get quite loud if the tank's in your living room.
Algae will also become a factor since the lights will definitely promote more growth.
Don't forget that you are controlling the "sun" for the tank so you should consider putting it on a regular cycle so the fish and coral get used to a set schedule.
Water evaporation will happen quicker now, so your salinity levels should be closely monitored too.

Safety issue: I would refrain from running the light when you're not home. Treat it like your dryer... typically its safe, but you never want to leave it unmonitored due to fire hazzards.

A maintenance free aquarium - no work at all! Just view and enjoy the coral colours and the various reef fish. Many or perhaps all aquarists would tend to call that aquatic heaven - maybe.

Is it possible though? Is there a way that the aquarist can design a marine system where, once all is settled and mature, there is nothing else to do?

The first thing is to compare the aquarium to the wild reef. Yes, there are the same kind of inhabitants in the aquarium as on the wild reef, just fewer of them. Also, there are far fewer species of livestock on the captive reef. So, there’s the first point - the wild reef has far greater diversity of life. The different species have their own niche on the wild reef, each having a food source. There are some overlaps of course but generally it is all very well organised. Nature has everything under control. The first problem that the aquarist is likely to face is in making sure that all potential difficulties are dealt with, from dealing with different forms of nuisance algae to having enough food for fish if kept.

So what if fish are not kept, just a reef with corals. This immediately makes the question of water quality easier to deal with, as the wastes from the fish are gone. In addition, there isn’t any need to feed the fish. So, if the aquarium filtration is excellent, such as live rock and a deep sand bed, will that remove maintenance?

The corals need looking at now. The hard corals generally need considerable light, but that isn’t a particular problem, with the availability of halide bulbs and the fast up and coming LED’s. They also require a sufficient level of calcium, magnesium etc which has to be provided. So in comes the calcium reactor, which can supply calcium along with magnesium, and probably other minerals in traces, if the correct media is used. That solves that. Wait a minute though, the calcium reactor needs servicing on occasion, and also the media needs renewal periodically.

What about soft corals? These can exist with less light, fluorescent tubes often being employed. They also need less calcium. It is argued, from anecdotal reports, that the addition of iodine is good for soft coral growth and health, but as this is not scientifically proven (as far as I know) it will be ignored. There isn’t any absolute need to feed certain soft corals, they grow without it. So the maintenance free aquarium idea is intact at the moment.

The marine system is set up with a live rock reef, the live rock being in sufficient quantity. The rock filtration is backed up by a DSB. The system is stocked with hardy soft corals. The lighting cycle is controlled by electric timers. There is a very efficient and properly set up protein skimmer in use.

The aquarist watches carefully until he/she sees what type of algae appears. Snails are introduced to the aquarium to control this. This is successful.

An automatic top-up system using reverse osmosis water is employed. Hey, we’re maintenance free!

No we’re not. Film algae appears on the viewing glasses and the snails attack it but have no ability to ‘keep it clean,’ efficient as they might be. The DSB needs feeding to maintain the population of minute life forms which keep it healthy. The reef rocks need to be ‘de-dusted’ occasionally. The lighting tubes need to be replaced periodically. Seawater quality, so important, needs to be tested routinely.

Seawater quality brings up another question, and this is aquarium water changes. The seawater change amount varies system to system, aquarists knowing, after a period, what the system requires. All aquarists change seawater though. There have been those who have experimented (or tried to save money) without, but problems of various sorts have arisen.

So they need to be done.

No, a marine aquarium system cannot be maintenance free. The move towards natural methods such as live rock, DSB’s, algae filtration etc has improved things immensely. Captive reefs run much closer to how Nature intended nowadays. Add to this the use of highly efficient protein skimmers, calcium reactors, electronically controlled seawater circulation, controlled temperature, accurate water level top-up systems, anti-nitrate reactors, anti- phosphate reactors, sophisticated lighting systems etc and the system is indeed looking after itself to a considerable extent. Correct livestock in the aquarium, not only corals but snails etc enhances self support. Experimentation by advanced aquarists goes on and in the future other innovative methods of control and aquarium maintenance may come into use.

A completely hands-off system will never materialise in my view. There is always something there that ‘needs doing,’ be it a water change, cleaning the glass free of algae, changing media etc. Thank goodness I say. One of the joys of this hobby is the knowledge that actions are helping maintain such interesting life.

Also, in the extremely unlikely event that a hands-off system did materialize, what aquarist could keep their hands off?

Specific question regarding starting a saltwater fish tank?

I currently have two 30 gallon freshwater tanks and am kicking the idea around of turning one of them into a saltwater tank. My question is, what kind of fish do you cycle a saltwater tank with and approximately how many would I need for a 30 gallon tank? I've asked a few people and they told me damsel fish is the way to go. Any input would be most appreciated. Thank you!

Do yourself a favor and stay away from damsels. they are territorial and very agressive. They are known to attack fish many times there size. If you have the live rock in then it will be very hard to catch them later on to get them out of your tank. If you choose to use fish to cycle the tank dont go with damsels. I personally like using green chromis they are still damsels but are not agressive at all. By my own observation they seem to make "shy" fish come out and explore the tank more. So to get damsels is a bad idea cause it will just cause problems later on when you want to add other species such as clowfish or angels or whatever you choose because the damsels will attack them. Green chromis arte the way to go they will not give you any problems with other fish down the road. Green chromis seem to be happier in odd numbers so i would add three of the same size's which are typically like an inch long when you get them. they are also very pretty, they sem to change colors when you look at them at different angels.

The great state of Texas is known for many things, one of which is great saltwater fishing. When you think of Texas, shorelines may not be your first impression but many anglers have discovered that there are great locations for saltwater fishing in Texas. You can be among them once you learn where and how.

Texas saltwater fishing along the Gulf Coast is an amazing adventure that can provide you with a lot of exciting stories to tell. With the wonderful weather southern Texas has to offer, you can go fishing all year long so it is great for vacationers that want to get away and enjoy some fishing during the winter months. So whether you live in Texas or just visiting, the saltwater fishing is always great.

There are many wonderful fishing areas for you to enjoy in Texas that provide a variety of saltwater species to make each of your trips a fun and exciting one. Below you will learn what saltwater species are available in Texas and where they can be found. Some of these locations are well-known while others are more remote areas that are still being discovered by many anglers. So what kind of saltwater fish can you expect to find in Texas?

Most Popular Texas Saltwater Species

You can find saltwater fish anywhere you find saltwater in the state of Texas but what kind of fish can you expect they will be? There are several popular Texas saltwater species located along the border that draws in anglers from all over. Galveston and South Padre Island are two well-known locations where you will find redfish, speckled trout and flounder. These areas provide some of the best and most exciting saltwater fishing in Texas. Anglers come from all over the nation to visit these locations. There are a lot of access points and jetties that help to make fishing easy and convenient along the coast of Galveston.

One area that is not quite so popular but should be is the Lower Laguna Madre. Here you will find redfish, speckled trout, tarpon, mangrove snapper and snook. This southern stretch of coastal land can be found between South Padre Island and Port Isabel and really does deserve your attention as it has some excellent fishing opportunities to offer.

The eastern and western parts of the Matagorda Bay each have a lot to offer when it comes to Texas saltwater fishing. It is a small bay where you will also find an abundance of speckled trout but many times it is overlooked and not given the recognition it really deserves. This is really a shame as it does have a lot to offer.

You will find flounder, redfish and trophy size speckled trout at Sabine Pass which is found at the Texas and Louisiana border. The abundances of redfish have made Rockport famous but you can also find flounder, black drum and speckled trout here. The Texas state record for trout was caught in Baffin Bay for two years straight.

Aquarium Magnetic
Magnetic algae cleaner (fish aquarium) scratches?

I have the Great White version of these magnetic cleaners (from Algaefree.com) and I let the inner tank one slip to the bottom. Now, I'm told the pad stays "free from sand" but I might have scratched the inside wall! Could anyone show me a document from this manufacturer that says this or that they stand behind a "scratch-free" product? Thanks!

Note: This is a huge aquarium, many tens of thousands of dollars. The sand was, luckily, the micro kind so the scratches are micro. But still, I'm anal about these things. Any help greatly appreciated!
Ok, I looked closer and I have some major gashes. It's no longer a "oh will I see it" it's now a "shit!" Why the hell do they make a brick that sinks!

usually when you buy stuff like that they made it so it could keep your glass perfect and if you got sand on it clean it with a hose and feel the pad and think would this scratch glass and if your really worried test it on a piece of glass or a window. and if it does scratch get a new device just one not so expensive

Summer time is mostly about escaping the oozing heat of the sun. Maybe go to some place really cold where you can ski and snowboard for life. In some cases, it's enjoying it in a quiet little paradise and savouring every moment of it away from the daily hassles of work. Hawaii for some reason has been the summer hangout of the world. Why not do it at some place that's not totally typical. Like maybe instead of the Pacific, let's go for the Atlantic and I have just the perfect place for you.

Bermuda is a group of coral islands in the Atlantic Ocean and is actually a dependency of the United Kingdom. It is usually a popular resort centre not only among the Europeans but also among everyone else. They lie midway between Nova Scotia, Canada and the West Indies about 1,000 kilometers away from New York City. It's a total haven to all the vacation seekers out there. But first off, let me give you a head start to five of the must see places in the Bermuda Islands.

The Devil's Hole Aquarium is the first and oldest tourist attraction in Bermuda. Although it has been developed into a well-designed centre, many of its unique and foremost features have been retained. The Devil's Hole is a natural fish pond where about 300 species of fish can be found. A gift shop and a ship are allotted to give you a personalized sense of enjoyment.

If you're in search of holy ground, check out the St. Peter's Church which dates way back to 1619. It has a unique Bermudian woodwork architecture that's been kept for the past 500 years. The St. Peter's Church was brought by the first settlers and is a part of the World Heritage Site. Craving for history and new facts? The African Diaspora Trail brings you the meeting place of the African, Caribbean, Native America, and British heritage. It highlights the most of the many interesting points about the islands.

Go beyond your imagination and check out the Crystal and Fantasea Caves of Bermuda Islands. Discovered in 1884, it's been hailed as a silent world of delicate splendour. Crystal stalactites and stalagmites posing as Mother Nature's offspring for over 30 million years now, the cave is definitely a must-see attraction.

For the travel junkie on the lookout for action, you might want to go to the Snorkel Park. The hospitality of the locals caters to all the amenities and services of the beach-goers. The water sports are just so cool, it's just so impossible to stop. The Bar and Grill of the resort offers the tropical favourites and the local foods. This is one place you definitely do not want to miss.

Basically, those are just a few of the many attractions in The Bermuda Islands. The pink sands and the cerulean blue sea make the island more appealing in its own natural way. Setting aside the beach, the treasured heritage of the British dependency should be another magnetic pull for the travel aficionado. Bermuda is a summer haven and there should be no mistaken it.
