EHEIM Battery-Operated Sludge Extractor or Python No-Spill Clean and Fill Aquarium Kits and Accessories?

Which is better for cleaning a 50 gallon aquarium, 1 doesn't remove any water and just sucks up all particles, and one removes the water and adds it in to when connected to a facet, they both seem really good, just looking for some opinions here of whats better, siphoning or just vacuuming with removing no water.

im not sure what fill aquarium kits is. but from the choices above il go with python. you can just always scrape your tank every once in while to remove build-up and so. python comes in 10, 25, 50, even a 100 feet. make sure you get the right one that will reach your faucet to your tank.

and may i suggest another thing. you can just always get a right size hose from home depot or lowes and just let gravity be your pump....python waste so much water when "vacuming" your tank. if you need more info to feel free to PM me

cheers

Pond cleaning question?

I have a one year old rubber-lined pond with NO drain. How do you recommend cleaning it? I have a siphon-hose vacuuming tube for my indoor aquarium, but I have no idea how to clean out a pond. I tried using the siphon hose in the pond, but it did not allow enough suction to lift out the sludge and debris because it's underground (gravity). I see a lot of rotting leaves and sludge at the bottom of the pond that needs to be removed, and my pond net is not helping (the debris just flows right through it!). Is there a "pond vacuum" or other cleaning system I can use to clean out my pond? Please recommend something out there I can buy to clean out my pond! Thanks!

A powerhead (like for an aquarium) or a pond pump with enough tubing to run the water to the outside of your pond (and a long outdoor power cord!) is good for major water removal.

If you're just looking to do spot cleaning, I learned about a product at a pond seminar at a local fish shop a few years ago: http://www.aqua-mart.com/gvac.html It's expensive at $55, but doesn't require electricity and if you know someone handy, it's simple to make something like this yourself.

The basic structure is a short, narrow piece of pipe (PVC), an adapter to a wider pipe, and an adapter to another thin piece. It works by capping the top piece with your hand and inserting the bottom into the pond near some debris. Keeping your hand against the top keeps water from entering. When you have the bottom tip positioned, remove your hand, causing water (and the debris) to be sucked up into the wider chamber by the water inside the "vaccuum" trying to equalize with the water level outside. Once the debris is sucked up, cap the top with your hand again, pull the vaccuum out of the water and release the water into a bucket (or wherever). Repeat as necessary! You'll have to figure out what lengths of pipe to use based on the depth and diameter of your pond.

Modern day methods to get rid of excess fat must not be confused with means to lose weight. It must always be borne in mind that these methods are only meant for localized deposits of fat or lose skin as the case may be, which are stubborn enough not to respond to any dieting or exercise methods to get rid of them. What we are referring to are surgical procedures like Liposuction and Abdominoplasty respectively. In any case being less complicated, the liposuction procedure is the most suitable tummy tuck alternative.

Liposuction as the name suggests refers to the removal of localized deposits of fat from just any part of the body. It involves flushing the fat out from the layer of fat deposit below the skin (called the adipose tissue). With the introduction of better tummy tuck alternatives like tumescent liposuction, the area from where fat is to be removed is first injected with a special combination of anesthesia and fluid before the surgery. This variant of liposuction is called tumescent liposuction. The purpose of injecting the fluid is so that it constricts the surrounding blood vessels, thereby making the procedure almost bloodless, while the anesthesia minimizes the pain. As part of the surgery, the surgeon makes small incisions that are approximately one and a half inch in length or lesser, in the area from where fat is to be removed. Thereafter a thin, hollow tube called a cannula is inserted; this is attached to a syringe or machine that creates a strong vacuum. The cannula is then carefully manipulated under the skin by the surgeon to siphon the unwanted fat out. In tummy tuck alternatives such as these, the degree of expertise of the surgeon is of supreme importance here, since in procedures such as these, the fluid that has been injected will mask the amount of fat that has been removed. The surgeon will hence need to determine the amount of fat that is to be removed by feeling and pinching the skin all through the duration of the surgery. Errors here can result in disproportionate fat reduction and an asymmetric appearance thereof.

Those who lose large amount of weight or else mothers, whose abdominal walls have sagged due to pregnancy, often find it difficult to get back into shape despite exercise. Even if the fat goes away, it may leave folds of lose skin behind. In such cases, it is best to go for a Minituck which is a good tummy tuck alternative. The option of a Minituck is what those with small amounts of lose skin though, where the need to reposition the navel can also be done away with as far as possible.

A combination of a Minituck along with liposuction can also be a very effective tummy tuck alternative. In both these procedures, the degree of invasion is kept at the bare minimum, because of which recovery and discomfort after the surgery is kept at a minimum. A good surgeon will offer advice on the best mode of treatment for each unique body type.

Why did these fish die when I changed the gravel?

I have a Gourami and two Tiger Barbs. Today I decided to change the gravel, and within minutes the Tiger Barbs were dead. The Gourami seems okay for the moment. Did I do something wrong?
I used a gravel vacuum/siphon to reduce the water level to about ten gallons (it's a 29 gallon tank). I scooped the gravel out, rinsed off the new gravel, added it, and filled the tank back up. The water was a little cloudy, but I thought that might be normal, as I've never changed gravel before.
I'm *not* having very good luck with fish as pets. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I did wrong that would harm them?

It wasn't the gravel. It was more than likely that you filled the tank with fresh chlorinated tap water. You cannot to that. The fresh water either needs to be left out for several days to neutralize, or treated with softening drops.

Getting a fish tank is only the first step in setting up a home aquarium. There are many tools you will need to maintain an aqauriums. These tools range from cleaning tools (vacuums, scrubs, bucks, siphons) to ornamental and necessary equipment.

1. Necessary Tools
Filters: A filter is probably the most important piece of equipment for your aquarium. Without it, the fish won't survive. When looking at filters you are going to have to find one that is large enough for the aquarium. There is a possibility that you are going to need more than one. Filters come in three varities: external, internal and under gravel. External filters are best, but also cost the most. The undergravel are cheapest, but are comparitively less effective. You can combine a mixture of the filters if you desire.

Heaters: If you are going to care for tropical fish, you need a heater. This will keep the water between 70 to 80 degrees or more if your fish need it. If you have freshwater fish, this may not be needed. Make sure you get a heater that is big enough to maintain the aquarium.

Test kits: These littel kits are used to test different elements in the water. You need to test the pH level, ammonia and nitrate levels. Fish need different conditions to live, so you have to make sure they all right. If not, these conditions need to be addressed immediately. You should also get a thermometer because you need to keep track of temperature for both freshwater and saltwater fish.

2. Ornamental Tools
Gravel: There are different ways to line the bottom of the tank, but most people prefer gravel. When looking for gravel to purchase, look for the pre-washed one. If you don't get it pre-washed, you are going to have to cleanse the gravel yourself. This requires boiling it to remove any bacteria to clean it. Check with any pet store employees because the gravel might effect the pH level of the tank.

Toys: You've seen the little toy chest and toy submerged man. When getting these toys check with the pet shop employee on the care. These usually require cleaning as well.

Plants: If you are going to purchase live plants, find marine plants that are going to thirve underwater. You don't want them to grow above the water line. The other thing you want consider when it comes to this if the fish you are getting are going to eat your plants. If so, get plastic ones.

3. Cleaning tools
This a broad category that is going to have many different items in it. You are going to need a bucket to use to transfer water when cleaning the tank. You can also get a bucket to hold the fish in when cleaning out the aquarium. A scrub brush and scraper will come in handy when cleaning the algae off the sides of the tank. You can purchase plastic gloves to keep yourself clean during the process. Cleaning isn't a fun part to owning a fish tank, but a necessary one.

If you don't clean the fish tank, the fish won't thrive. Waste and excretions will eventually build up to the point that the filter can't even control. This is vital to life of the fish.

While this isn't the beginning at the end of a list, this will prove a great place to get started. Ask around and talk to people who have aquariums to see what other tools and equipment you are going to need.

There are different places you can purchase the equipment as well. You can always go to the local pet store where you are going to get a great deal of information from employees. You can also see what they have in stock. You can go on the Internet to check the different selections online. The Internet will provide a greater selection and loads of information on getting started.

Siphon Vacuum Cleaner

Air Pressure...~......?

how do the following devices make use of air pressure?

1. siphon for transferring gasoline from a tank
2. fountain pen
3.vacuum cleaner
4. water pump

1. Siphon
A siphon (also spelled syphon) is a continuous tube that allows liquid to drain from a reservoir through an intermediate point that is higher, or lower, than the reservoir, the flow being driven only by the difference in hydrostatic pressure without any need for pumping. It is necessary that the final end of the tube be lower than the liquid surface in the reservoir.

2.Fountain Pen
Fountain pens use a highly fluid ink. They rely on a property called capillarity to draw the ink into and through the feed. Capillarity causes the inner surface of the tubes to attract molecules of ink. These ink molecules, in turn, attract other ink molecules, and the feed fills with ink from the pen’s reservoir.
The feed in a fountain pen also includes a number of air passages that lead to the reservoir. These passages allow air to fill the top of the reservoir as ink is drawn from the bottom. Thus the air pressure inside the pet remains equal to the air pressure outside the pen, and the ink flows easily. If the air pressure inside the ink reservoir is lower than the atmospheric pressure outside, the ink will not reach the point and the pen will fail to write. However, if the air pressure over the ink column becomes greater than the air pressure outside the pen, ink will flood out from the front of the pen. To avoid such flooding, fountain pens are designed with a collector. The collector, which is located near the nib, consists of a series of fins and spaces that provide enough additional room to accommodate forward moving ink.

3. Vacuum Cleaner

A vacuum Cleaner's suction is caused by a difference in air pressure. A pump reduces the pressure inside the tube. Atmospheric pressure then pushes the air through the carpet and into the tube, and so the dust is literally pushed into the bag.

4.Water Pump
A pump displaces a volume by physical or mechanical action. One common misconception about pumps is the thought that they create pressure. Pumps alone do not create pressure they only displace fluid causing a flow. Adding resistance to flow causes pressure.

Soon spring will be here and so will the annual chore of opening your swimming pool. Planning ahead can make the job much easier. ThereÂ’s nothing worse than realizing your short one bag of shock when youÂ’re in the middle of prepping the pool. So letÂ’s first make a list of chemicals that you might need.

There will be different needs depending on the type of pool you own, so this list is general. Refer to your pool and pump instructions for additional information.

  • Liquid or powdered Shock
  • Chlorine powder or tablets
  • Bromine
  • pH increase or pH decrease
  • Sanitizing cartridge for cartridge filters
  • A test kit or bottle of test strips to test pH and chlorine levels

Before you run off to your local pool supply store for chemicals, now would be the time to check all of your hoses, clamps, skimmer baskets, gaskets and o-rings. If any of the parts look like they need replacing, take them with you to the pool supply store. ItÂ’s a lot easier to match replacement parts if you have the old part with you.

Now that you have the easy part finished, itÂ’s time to get to work. The first thing required is to get the cover off. Enlist some help for this, as you want to avoid getting any top water into the pool water. If you have an above ground pool, siphon the water off with a hose. If you have an in-ground pool you will need to use a sump pump to remove the top water.

To get a good siphon started, hook up the hose to the spigot and put the other end of the hose into the top water. Turn the hose on for a minute or so to fill it. Next crimp the hose a foot or two away from the faucet, and with your other hand, disconnect the hose from the spigot. Position the hose at a downspout drain to discharge then let go of the crimp. The water will reverse and start to drain.

Once you have the water cleared, use a leaf rake to remove as many leaves and twigs as possible. Next, remove your cover weights or springs. At this time a few people positioned around the pool will help to keep the cover out of the water. Try to fold your cover like a blanket keeping the crud in the middle then remove the cover. You need to scrub the cover thoroughly and properly dry for summer storage.

Now itÂ’s time to attach all the pump hoses. Remember to lube plugs, fittings, valves and o-rings with petroleum jelly. Also be sure to remove any freeze plugs that were used to cover the hose openings. You will most likely need to add water to the pool. It should be filled to the skimmer half way point.

At this point you should start re-circulating the water and check for any leaks around the pump and hoses. Once your pool is leak and drip free, skim off as much floating debris as you can with your skimmer net. Open all your valves to flood the hoses and prime the pool pump. Most manufacturers recommend constantly recirculating the pool water for at least three days. Any crud and debris on the sides and bottom of the pool will need to be scrubbed off. Use the broom attachment of your pool vacuum for this.

After all debris has been removed and the pool has been scrubbed, check your filter for cleaning. Some pumps have removable filters; others are back-flushed, so clean as directed. Once the filter is cleaned, you can now super shock the water as per your manufacturerÂ’s instructions. If you start with green water, you will need a lot more shock. It may take a few days of recirculation to clear the water. Once the water has cleared, test your water or take a sample to your pool supply store and have it analyzed. Adjust the water as required and keep recirculating. All that is left to do now is to wait for the water to warm up so you can start enjoying your pool.
