Cat Tree Plans You Can Use To Make Homemade Cat Trees

If you have a cat that has a scratching problem then making a homemade cat tree is the thing to do. I used to have a cat that liked to scratch up all of my furniture until I made him a cat tree and gave him something better to do. I am not someone who is good at constructing things, but I also did not have the money to buy my own cat tree from the pet store, so I knew that I had to do something if I wanted to get my cat to stop scratching my furniture. That is when I got the idea to make a cat tree for my cat.

One thing that I was worried about when I was going to build a cat scratching tree was the materials that I was going to have to use. I figured there would be a lot of different materials that I would need to gather up and put together in order to be able to build a cat scratching post. I was very surprised by how few materials I actually needed to have when I got the plans that I was using. I was also surprised by how cheap they were to purchase.

One reason that the materials were so cheap is because I got some good tips from someone who had been building cat trees for a while, and they told me exactly where to purchase them from for the best price. This was great because just like I did not have the money for all of the cat trees that I was looking at I did not have the money to spend on a bunch of high cost materials either.

The part that I was the most worried about when I was trying to build a cat scratching post was the instructions in the plans that I was using. I was worried that I was going to have to follow a bunch of complicated instructions that I would not be able to follow; however, to my surprise they were very simple. The cat tree plans that I was using even came with pictures that I could look at to let me know that I was on the right track.

I have to say that building a cat scratching tree was one of the easiest things that I have ever tried to do, and I am very glad I learned how to do it. My cat no longer scratches up all of my furniture and I am able to have guests over to my house without worrying that my cat is going to bother them. If you have a cat scratching problem and want to be able to fix it then make sure that you learn how to build a homemade cat tree for your cat.

Do you want to know where I got my Cat Tree Plans? They were easy to find on this site that I went to that had plenty of information about how to Make Cat Trees.

Many cats need a good amount of stimulation in order to keep them from becoming board, and we all know what a board cat is capable of! Cat trees provide that type of stimulation.

Most people wonder what to look for in a cat tree. As a cat tree manufacturer and a cat breeder, I would like to point out what is important to me.

Safety first:

All cat breeders know what mischief our cats are capable of. If there's danger in your house, your cats are going to find it. Not only is the cat tree manufacturer responsible for making a well built, safe cat tree but the cat owner is responsible for using good judgement in the selection and use of it..

First, make sure the design of the cat tree does not compromise safety. Only purchase stable, well built cat trees. Beware of cat trees that are cheaply made and can collapse under the weight of your cats. You also want to purchase a cat tree that will not tip over when your cat , who has invisible wings it seems, takes a flying leap and lands on top or on the side of the tree. You have to take into account that smaller, lighter cat trees will not be as stable when used by a big, heavy cat, but even if you buy a small cat tree there are ways to test for stability. You can test your cat tree before purchase by taking it through the tip test. Tip the cat tree a bit and see if it falls over or if it rights itself (be careful if it's a large tree, you don't want a large tree falling on you and the store might not appreciate you knocking over all of the large trees in the place). Rock it a bit to see if it stays upright. It's ok if the tree sways some with the movement of the cat, that's normal, but it is not OK if the cat tree tips over easily.

If you purchase your tree from an internet website you won't be able to put it through the tip test, but you can always ask for customer testimonials to see how other customers feel about the stability of the products you intend to buy. Be sure that there is a return policy in case the tree does not meet stability requirements, however, also be sure to read and agree to the store's return policy before you make the purchase. Many stores will not let you return a used product so be sure to take the tip test before you let your cats use the tree.

Your cat tree should be sturdy enough to surface clean and sanitize. There are a large number of cats trees on the market that are made with cardboard tubing as the core of the structure. I don't recommend cat trees made with cardboard because cardboard may not hold up well, especially if you surface clean your cat tree regularly with anything moist. If you have a cat tree with cardboard tubing as the main supportive structure, be sure to inspect it regularly for any weakness.

Many cat trees use toxic chemicals, dyes, and glues in the manufacturing process. It is not a good idea to use a cat tree with any of these items, particularly for cats that tend to bite at the carpeting and materials used on cat trees.

Be sure to buy a tree suitable for it's purpose. Don't buy a carpeted cat tree for outside unless it will be in an area protected from rain and moisture. If you keep a carpet and wood cat tree outside, even under a covered patio, moisture may still cause mold to develop on or inside of your cat tree.

For outside cat furniture, make sure that the cat house is suitable for cats. Most outdoor houses on the market are designed for dogs and not for cats, so do your homework when looking for those type of items.

Accessability:

Make sure the cat tree you intend to purchase is accessible to your cats. There are all kinds of situations that call for a really accessible cat tree. Your cats may be old, overweight, declawed, or have health issues. If you have large cats, will your cat tree be large enough to accommodate them? Will they fit into the cubby holes or house(if the cat tree has holes or houses)?

The cats also need to be able to get up and down the tree easily or they probably wont use it.

A good idea is to get a cat tree that you can purchase additional parts in case your tree needs to be more accessible. If the cat tree looks like a cat tree, can your purchase extra branch steps? If it looks like a regular, multi level structure, can your purchase more steps? It's also a good idea to purchase some sort of ladder for cats who are declawed (I am not a supporter of declawing but should you end up with a declawed cat you need to be able to accommodate it too). Your cat trees are no good unless your cats like them and will use them, so be sure your cat tree is designed with your cat in mind. We've had take a second look and to improve the accessability of our cat trees over the years.

Durability:

Durability is not only an issue of getting your moneys worth but also of safety. Most mass manufactured cat trees on the market today are made with the cheapest materials possible. As stated previously, many use cardboard tubing as the main support structure. Cardboard is not very durable, especially if you clean your cat tree. All plywood has some amount of chemicals in it, however, press board and chipboard has a large amount of undesirable chemicals in it and is not as durable as plywood or solid wood.

Fabric is not as durable as carpeting, which is thicker and can stand up to cats scratching better. Of course, no carpeting is going to last forever, but you will get more bang for your buck if your cat tree is carpet covered rather then fabric covered.

Appeal:

Appeal is more important then most people think. Not only should the tree appeal to your cats but it should appeal to you and your visitors. The cat tree should be designed in a way that is attractive to your cats. If a cat tree is designed with cats in mind, usually cats will take to it instantly. Many cats are territorial, so if you have a large number of cats or territorial, cats it is recommended that you buy a large cat tree with multiple, separate spaces for each cat to claim as it's own.

There are certain materials that most cats are attracted to. Cats like warmth and softness when sleeping and they like things they can really dig their claws into when playing. Having a cat tree that provides spaces where you can put soft, warm cat beds is always a plus, as is having a cat tree that can withstand rough play.

Next we want a cat tree that will appeal to our design and style. It does no good to spend $2000.00 on a new leather sofa and thousands on decor if you're going to have a big, ugly, rickety cat tree sitting in the middle of your livingroom! The idea is not to detract from your decor, but to add to it. There's no reason you should compromise your style because you have cats to please (although your cats would tell you different). If that is the case, you might as well pick up the 70's checkerboard sofa sitting on your street corner and throw that into the living room for your cats to use as a scratching post. Of course, different people have different styles, likes and dislikes, so my idea of attractive might not be yours, but im sure you get the drift.

Finally, we come to PRICE::

It's not true that 100% of the time if you spend less you'll get less and if you spend more you get more, but generally speaking, you get what you pay for.

I'll let you in on a not so secret, secret. I'm a penny pincher. I drive my family crazy. Let me tell you a story about my uh - hmmm..."penny pinching abilities". When I was in school my father would take us to a restaurant every morning to eat breakfast before school. I'd buy the heaviest meal, and eat well every morning because I knew he'd give me $2.00 for lunch everyday. I never used the $2.00 to buy lunch. Instead, I would starve myself all day to be able to save the $2.00.

I would go home famished but never broke. I saved so much money that way that when my other family members needed to borrow money they knew I always had some to lend them. Sure, I lent them the money, but I always charged interest! So what's the moral of my story? If you can save a buck or two, please do. That being said, I never, ever, will compromise quality to save money. I feel that if you're compromising quality to save money, then you really haven't saved anything, in fact, you've lost money because it will be just that much faster that you'll have to replace the item. I also, never buy anything im not 100% happy with buying. I won't settle for second best because to me, second best is money not well spent. I don't mind getting used items, but I have to be sure that those are of good quality as well. When it comes to cat trees, it's not a good idea to get a used cat tree unless you know the person who your getting the cat tree from and know that the cats who used the tree are disease free. There are a terrible amount of diseases and parasites that can hide in cat trees.

If you're anything like me, and I suspect that you are since I've done business with probably thousands of cat breeders and pet owners, you spend inordinate amounts on your cats but nothing on yourself. I'll wear the same pair of tennis shoes until they fall apart (husband has to sneak into the closet and get them and throw them away because he knows I will wear them till I'm waking on insole liners held together with shoelaces), but when it comes to my cats, I have to have the latest, greatest and cutest. So, if you're like me, I feel bad for you, but at least now you know how to find a perfect cat tree for your beloved furbabies.

For outside cat furniture, make sure that the cat house is suitable for cats. Most outdoor houses on the market are designed for dogs and not for cats, so do your homework when looking for those type of items.

Now for owner responsibility in the use and placement of the cat tree. As the owner it is important that you use good judgement when finding a suitable spot for your cat tree. Don’t put your cat tree in any area that cats might get hurt jumping down from the tree or if they should fall from the tree, particularly if the tree is very tall. One time someone reported that they placed a tall cat tree at the top of 3 flights of stairs. The stairs were open all the way to the basement. For unknown reasons the cat fell from the top of the tree and fell down three flights of stairs, landing on the basement steps. I’m happy to report that there were no serious injuries, but this was a lesson learned for that poor cat owner who chose the wrong spot for her cat tree!

My own cats spy their 6 foot cat tree from the 10 foot balcony in my house wanting to jump all the way over to the cat tree. My husband thought about putting the cat tree under the balcony so they could get onto the top of the cat tree from there. I thought it was not a wise idea because I did not want to encourage my cats to play balancing acts on the balcony rail, and if we ever moved the cat tree they might still think that they can play on the balcony. Instead, I keep the cat tree on the other side of the room and reprimand my cats when they get on the balcony. I plan on putting patio netting over the front of the balcony to keep them off.

There are other hidden dangers that the cat owner needs to beware of. Some cat trees are very large and heavy. You want to be sure that you keep large dogs and children away from and off off your cat trees. Large dogs might be able to tip over the cat tree and children like to climb on them and they might fall from the tree or knock them down on top of themselves. Make it clear to your human children and your non feline furry children that it is NOT OK to play on or around the cat tree.

Dangling toys can also be a huge hazzard for playful cats. I heard a report about an accident from a person tying a long, thin bungee type of toy to a cat tree. When the owner was out of the room the cat hung herself on the bungee cord. The owner came back into the room just in time to save the cat! If you want to put a danging toy on your cat tree, make sure it is not long enough for the cat to wrap around it’s neck.. Bungee type of toys can be particularly dangerous because they stretch.

You want to be cautious about any toy that is hanging from anywhere, be it doorknob or cat tree.

Finally, don’t do anything stupid like put a tv set on top of the cat tree trunk. It sounds really off the wall but I have heard of really strange uses for cat trees.

House Scratcher Post

Cat not getting it. She still scratches rug.?

Soft Paws are a WASTE. I spent alot of money on those and they dont work for us.

She has EIGHT different scratchers. 3 tall posts, 2 sisal, one carpet. The rest are cardboard floor scratchers, as she seems to like to scratch that way. And they are scattered out so theres atleast one in each room.

Each time she does it on the rug I pick her up and put her on the scratchers.. but she just leaves and comes back in the room with the carpet and scratches.

I even let her have one of the scatter carpets from the dining room that she was scratching anyway and try to put her on that too when she is scratching something I dont want her to, and no luck.

I keep her nails short to.

If I cant teach her to stop before fall she will either be declawed or put in the shelter. I dont own this house and the carpets are inlayed berbers and do not belong to me.

PLEASE I dont want to resort to that. I need suggestions ASAP.
Ok thanks.

DON'T put your cat in a shelter! Declawing, while cruel in my opinion, is still better than a shelter! Cats don't like to learn...they're very stubern.

They say that the world divides into cat people and dog people. While that may be so for some, I believe it's more a matter of loving animals in general and wanting them in your life. Whether it's a cat or a dog, or some other critter for that matter, what counts is having animal companions.

That said, I freely admit that I am a cat person who's been enchanted with feline friends for many decades. As far as I am concerned, there isn't a more perfect creature on the face of this earth. I currently have three cats and I never tire watching them play and do their thing. Each has a different personality and style. Each has their own cat toys, and each has little quirks, likes and dislikes.

What's interesting about cats is that unlike humans, they never seem to get tired of playing. One of my cats is three and the other two, siblings, are seven or eight. You'd think the three-year-old kitty is still a teenager and playful whereas the other two are adults, but they all seem to enjoy playing equally. And no matter how many times I put their cat toys in the basket where they belong, the cats think differently and drag them all over the house.

Sometimes it seems that cats love to play with just about anything. Socks, wads of paper, cardboard boxes, string and, of course, anything they can bat and roll around. I also buy them presents and so there's a whole bunch of cat toys all over the house. My two older cats are small and you'd swear they were still kittens. They absolutely love to run after balls, and so they have an assortment of colored balls, some with feathers on them, and some with bells and other noisy things inside them.

Stitch, my three-year-old cat, is a large Russian Blue (or at least he looks like one) who's aloof and aristocratic. You'd swear he were the elder statesman of the house, and not the baby. His one weakness is catnip mice and other fluffy little cat toys that he can chase around. They almost inevitably end up under a sofa or behind the fridge, and then he tries for hours to reach them.

All three absolutely love to chase after a laser pointer. When they first came out, laser pointers cost a fortune, but today you can get them for a few dollars in cat toy stores. If there's one toy cats never seem to tire of, it must be a laser pointer. A close second are what I call "cat teasers." That's the fishing rod kind of toys that have feathers and fur balls attached. My cats just love to go after them. When Stitch was a kitten, he used to do back flips trying to get at the feathers.

Another category of cat toys is cat scratchers and gyms. If your kitty is a scratcher, there's no better investment than an assortment of things where he can sharpen his claws on instead of shredding the sofa!

Cats are wonderfully entertaining creatures to begin with, but watching them play with toys is even more fun. I make sure they always have something new and challenging to play with. Cat toys don't cost a lot, so reward and challenge your feline companion(s) with something new to play!

I bought two cat tree's that my cats love. Your cats will thank you for this. I bought both of my trees off ebay from te seller Armarkat. Best seller on the bay! Best advice... the bigger the better. If you go small you will regret it!

I paid about $120.00 for each tree and that INCLUDED shipping. You should check wood prices before building to make sure it's worth it to DIY.

Here are my trees. I purchased both of my trees in 2002. They have withstood 7 huge adult cats weighing in at nearly 20 pounds a piece of solid muscle... and 6 kittens through kittenhood and into adulthood. The sisel is just now starting to frey but it will be super easy to rewrap. The fabric has held up beautifully and vacuums super fast. These trees do NOT rock. They are SOLID. And thats a good thing since my cats are constantly fighting over the top perches. icon wink Tree Condo House
They don't make these specific designs anymore... but the others are just as good!

So you just graduated and nailed down your first job that can pay for more than beer and gas. You are single and looking to use your new found success to frolic with the ladies. One of the critical components to years of playing the field is establishing yourself a bachelor pad. Some of you may decide to splurge on your car instead and skimp out on the apartment, maybe even live with a roommate. This is one of the biggest mistakes a man can make and I will explain why. There are essentially 3 stages in picking up women: 1) the opening, this is simply making initial contact 2) mid-game, this is your first date 3) closing.

Stage 1 can happen in a multitude of ways at different types of locations. Most young player wannabes make the mistake of assuming the openings are only made at bars, clubs, etc. They fail to realize the situations that yield the highest returns are when the openings occur in a private setting such as a guy friend bringing over a few girls from the mid game or a guy friend's girlfriend's friends to your apartment/house/condo to drink. Hands down, these situations will yield you the most success because you are already past the primary female's defenses and you have a chance to charm her, BS her, etc. Now when a woman likes you and sees your place of living, she naturally and subconsciously imagines what it would be like to wake up next to you or live with you at your place. She pictures herself waking up and looking out at your great view, throwing dinner parties with her friends, after bars, pre bars etc. They can't help it, its in their nature to want to settle down and shack up.

If you have the right bachelor place, you have a great chance to close in one night. You do your opening and mid game easily at your place. Then after a few drinks when its time to close, you don't set any alarms off by saying things like "you want to after party", "you want to come back to my place", "lets go cuddle and watch a movie" etc. Phrases like that instantly set off alarms in the woman's heads and bring them back to reality, no matter how charming you have been throughout the night. But guess what, if you are already at your place, you can use something a bit more harmless like "lets go chill on the patio" or "hot tub time." After a few hours and drinks the woman has already established basic trust. After all you appear to be clean (MAKE SURE ITS CLEAN), successful and don't have any body parts in your fridge.

Now ask yourself, when does a car help me with the ladies? Its almost impossible to have an opening while in your car and I wouldn't want to sleep with the girl that will let you close the deal in it. The only possible time a car can help you is the brief 15 minute ride when you pick her up and take her to dinner, and that's only if she decides to ride with you. Also, something to remember is that a super nice car and a whack home send bad vibes. It gives the impression of immaturity, lack of priority, etc. Thus heed my advice; get a DECENT car, no rusty clunkers, but no need to roll in a BMW when a VW or Honda will suffice.

When you are hunting for a bachelor pad try and make sure its close to the areas your crew likes to go out to. A pimp place does you no good if its way out of the way and no one wants to party there. Try and get something with a nice balcony and view, women love this for the same reason they love convertibles. The rest of the magic lies in the decorations. Make sure you establish a central hang out/drinking zone. The ideal drinking zone is a center island bar. This is because it allows you to freely change positions and easily carry intimate conversation with different people as you pour drinks, get chasers from the fridge, etc. without making it obvious who you are interested in. Don't cheap out and buy some nice bar stools that are comfortable, preferably with padding on the seat and back.

If you managed to nail down a nice patio/balcony make sure you don't cheap out and buy nice patio furniture that again is COMFORTABLE! The area of least importance is your bed room. Just make sure its presentable, but chances are if a girl goes in there shes already decided your fate, ENJOY!

Cat scratching issue?

My boyfriend and I just adopted our year-old kitty Jed from a shelter who found him. Prior to adoption he had been living by himself in the wild. He has been scratching a lot, and has ripped up my boyfriends very expensive couch. I am completely against declawing, but my boyfriend is getting very angry at both me and Jed, and I desperately need a solution to his clawing before my boyfriend says that declawing is the only solution. He has a huge kitty condo, cat scratchers that he regularly claws, however he is young and likes to run around and just claw everything. We have also gotten a cover for the couch but his claws has scratched through it and ripped the leather on the couch open. His claws are long, should I bring him to the vet to get them clipped? He is a bit too rowdy for me to do it myself, as he can bite. HELP?!?!??!?!?

I'm so glad that you are against declawing. Yes, you need to learn how to get those claws trimmed yourself., Take Jed to the vet and either the vet or the tech will show you how to trim the claws. It needs to be done about every ten to fourteen days for a cat that doesn't go outside.

Jed is only a year old, so he has lots to learn still. It's good that he's using the scratching posts and pads but the fact that he is still scratching the furniture, shows that he has a HUGE amount of energy to use up. I think you need to play with him much more - he needs many more toys and much interactive play. A daily session of no less than 30 mins with you or your boyfriend will really help.

Jed may also be a bit bored. Cats are not only athletes who need to exercise a lot, they are very intelligent and as predators need something to interest them. Try and get hold of one of those play balls that you put kibble into. Jed will roll and whap the ball around th ehome and each time get a single reward piece of kibble. You can set the hole in the ball to make it harder or easier to get the kibble out. The kibble can be taken from his daily food allowance.

You can also make puzzles to keep him occupied - toilet paper and kitchen roll inner tubes can be taped together and single pieces of kibble can be put inside them, these can be placed around your home, so Jed can find them and spend time getting hold of the kibble or you can put catnip or valerian (herb) in them too. He might rip up the carboard tubes, but that's a good thing, he will enjoy it!

You might want to get a Feliway diffuser or some Feliway spray. Some of Jed's scratching behaviour is all about scent marking -0 he has scent glands between his toes. If you use the Feliway spray at cat head height on all the things that Jed has scratched that he isn't allowed to scratch, he will think that those things are already marked by him and won't feel the need to re-scent mark them. If your furniture is anywhere near doors or windows (areas where cats feel insecure because they are territory entry/threat areas) the Feliway spray will really help him feel secure.

There's a new toy available called a Fling-a-ma-string, which atteches to doors and the cat can play with itself, I haven't used it, but I've seen videos of cats having a wonderful time with it - just another suggestion to provide Jed with some more play activities.

If you can, (and this applies to your boyfriend too) try not to shout, yell, jump up, wave your arms about or behave in an excited or angry way when Jed scratches stuff he isn't supposed to. Each time he does it, quietly take him to a scratching post, put his paws on it and make a scratching movement, he's a bright young cat, when he gets praise as you do this, he will cotton on that he only gets attention fromyou and praise when he uses the posts and scratch pads.

The key to sorting out this behaviou rin a young cat is to starve off the boredom. He needs lots to keep him occupied, and masses of energetic play to tire him out.

If you need some resources to show your boyfriend what an inhumane and barbaric mutilation declawing is then these links may be useful. Declawing is also banned, illegal or severely restricted in 38 countries around the world - because it's deemed too cruel. Soon it will be banned in America too.

Best of luck in training Jed and particularly in convincing your boyfriend that declawing would cripple Jed for life.

It's natural for cats to scratch but often it destroys your good furniture. Thankfully there are some things that you can do to relieve the problem.

Many people watch in sadness as their cat destroys virtually everything that he can get his claws into. You can improve this behavior. To do so, you need to know why he is doing what he is doing.

Cats were hunters. They needed those sharp teeth to help them to climb trees and to leap down on their prey. Although your cat is not likely to be pouncing on their dinner anymore, they still instinctively need to sharpen their claws and that is exactly what they are doing on your furniture. The scratching that they do is a way of trimming their nails and it removes the old outer part of the claws. Another reason they are ruining your home is because they know it to be their territory. They release a scent from special glands in their paws which helps them mark the area as theirs. They also do it because they are working the kinks out of their body as well as burning some energy.

Before you head off to have him de clawed, you may want to try out some of the alternative methods of preventing the scratching.

One way is to provide them with scratching pads or posts. There are a wide variety of them available including those that are part of a cat condo. You can even make your own by using two foot high section of a four by four, two foot by two foot piece of heavy plywood and a carpet remnant. When you have one of these, take it and put it right next to his favorite piece of furniture to destroy. Then, gradually move it away from the furniture as he gets accustomed to it.

You can also use a pet repellant spray such as Bitter Apple on the furniture that the pet is clawing at. Take the time to test the spray on a non visible area of the furniture before using it though. Or if you do not want to spray the furniture, then cover the material with aluminum foil or tape that is placed sticky side up. The cat will not like the material and will turn to the scratching post instead.

Some cats just canÂ’t seem to stop. For these, de-clawing becomes the best option. If your cat stays indoors, you can have their claws removed. There are some risks involved and the procedure can be painful for him. Those who would like to avoid this like to use nail caps instead. These are applied as false nails would be to the catÂ’s nail.

If your cat is a scratcher, do what you can to stop him before you have him de-clawed. If this becomes the best option though, it may be better than having your furniture torn up!

I hope that some of these simple tips help you save your furniture from cat attack without stopping you cat from enjoying life.

Cat Condos and Trees - do cats really like them?

I am moving to a new place and may need to convert my two indoor-outdoor cats into indoor cats only. I am thinking of getting them a cat condo and cat tree and some toys to make their indoor life interesting. But will this work? Anyone with experience on cat condo and cat trees out there? I'd hate to invest hundreds of dollars on something that will not interest my cats whatever - know you understand.

OH MY God yes do cats love trees and condos. When I brought the cat tree home, Lucy C. Tabby (my cat's full name) jumped up on it before we had decided where to put it. It was in the middle of the living room and we moved it to the side in front of a window with her on it. She sleeps on top of it, most nights. It has also stopped upholstery assassination for the most part. Her attitude seems to be "Scratch your boring furniture when I have this?"
You do not need to spend all that much money. Look around the big pet superstores and this place
www.drsfostersmith.com/ for ideas about design. Then grab some lumber and some nails and some carpet scrap and build your own. Put the words "cat tree" into Google and all kinds of ideas come up. A friend of mine bought a small wooden stepladder (three steps) at a garage sale and stapled carpet scraps to the steps and and top and wound sisal rope around the legs. Worked for as a scratch post and the cat sits on top and watches the bird feeder. (Cat does not go out)

Hectic, stressful and loud... that's the life most people try to escape from for their vacations. But with the surge of people continuing towards overexposed resorts, crowded vacation properties and double-booked condos the noise and hassle seems to follow many weary travelers on their vacations.

However, those with a savvy eye for the vacation home and condo market know about the sandy white beaches, picturesque sunsets and emerald green waters of Florida's lush and beautiful Destin area. Balancing select commercial dining and entertainment with the pristine and protected natural landscape Destin has become a popular vacation destination for families and young adults who enjoy peaceful afternoons and chill evenings in a relaxed and scenic atmosphere.

Taking advantage of traditional Southern hospitality with the low-key lifestyle of the Florida Gulf region Destin is a vacation paradise with endless stretches of sugar white beaches, shimmering water the color of jade and warm breezes gently swaying green palm tree leaves. Amid this beauty exists a fine selection of vacation homes, condos and villas available to buy or rent so you can either have a place of your own to call home throughout the year or a weekly rental that let's you get away from work and the grind of urban life.

From Miramar Beach to the western tip of Destin runs the scenic and famous Route 30A, a beautiful 18-mile highway offering gorgeous waterfront views, pristine dune lakes and virgin pine forests. Vacation property along 30A is abundant and includes a wide variety of classic cottage style villas and ultra-modern condo buildings and resorts to satisfy the family looking for peace and quiet and the young couple that likes a little fine dining and nightlife mixed in with their sun and sand.

Unlike the fast pace of Miami and Daytona and less commercial than Orlando Destin is Florida's true diamond in the rough. This strikingly enticing vacation destination is just south of Georgia and Alabama and blends smooth Southern charm with the laid back lifestyle of the Gulf Coast to create the ideal environment for peaceful getaways. This year, treat you and your family to a real vacation and make Destin your destination for sun and relaxation.

How bad is it to get a cat declawed?

She claws EVERYTHING and is ruining so many things. I have 4 cat scratchers through out the house, but she still does the leather, my bed, my chairs anything!! She is almost 3 years old. I have tried squirting her with water, pushing her off the chairs, etc, nothing works. I hear it is inhuman ... what are others thoughts?

Oh dear... I do understand your frustration. I am dead set against de-clawing; but have you tried "Soft Paws"? It is a sheath (made of some rubbery material) that is glued to the cat's claws. You can have a vet put them on your cat or apply them yourself. They can be bought at pet stores. Thing is, you may have to re-apply every few weeks or months becuase they do come off eventually as the claw naturally grows. But they are a lot lot better than having a cat declawed! My suggestion is you try Soft Paws first and see how you and the cat goes from there before you consider anything more drastic. Many people have had great success with the Soft Paws. It will also help "break" the cat's habit of scratching everything since he won't be getting as mush satisfaction from clawing anymore. He'll be encouraged to find something else to do. So get him other toys as well becuase he'll be looking for something to do. Which gives me a thought? Is your cat adequately stimulated in his environment. Becuase bored cats become very destructive cats. Think about "enriching" his environment, especially if he is an indoors only cat. Give him cat perches by the window to watch birds and squirrels; a cat tree to climb on; interractive toys and play time.

Good luck, freind.
