We all know how expensive vehicle repairs can be these days. Choosing adoption is a big step. I would like to discuss a variety of topics that will help with making the decision to adopt an informed, thought provoking one. My wife and I have raised 3 boys and 2 girls and I must say that it is a different experience one from the other, but rewarding all the same. This is a choice that must be thought out and discussed when choosing to adopt. 6-8 yrs: Learning, attention span improving, lots of energy, children should be brushing their own teeth, parent child play time, wanting to do more on their own, reading time, teach them how to do chores that are age appropriate, may want to begin organized sports or activities

9-11 yrs: Study habits, learning how to do for themselves, increased chore responsibility, becoming more independent, communicating regularly

12-14 yrs: Preteen and becoming a teenager, hormones, relationships, friendships, study habits, communicating regularly, extra curricular activities, spreading their wings.

15-18 yrs: On the road to becoming an adult, education, future planning, relationships, having the “birds and bees” talk, communicating regularly

Of course this list merely scratches the surface but all in all I think you get the idea. Choosing adoption to begin or extend your family can be very rewarding. It is a big decision and through research and communication, you may find that choosing adoption is the right fit for you and your family.

Lobelia group of plants was named by Linnaeus for Matthias de lObel who was a Flemish botanist. He was a physician to Englands James I.

Cardinal flower is also known as the Red Lobelia. The wild flower is a member of the Lobelia Family. It is mostly found in Kansas, Gulf States and west. It flowers from July to September. It flowers mostly in these three months. It is not too tough to plant this flower. Its seed are enough to get it planted. This wild red flower grows in streams, meadow runnels, ditches and low or wet ground. The plant does not branch out. It is two feet tall initially but later it grows to become four and a half feet in length. Their leaves are somewhat jagged and can be of various shapes. They can either be lance-shaped or oblong. The plant mostly produces vermilion colored flowers though white or rose colored flowers can also be found. Its botanical name is Lobelia cardinalis.

The difference in color between Cardinal flower and Blue Lobelia was explained by Sir John Lubbock. He did various experiments and proved that blue is the favorite color of bees and the Blue Lobelia chose to flatter the bees as her benefactors. Bees love these blue flowers. All the red flowers in garden of the nature like trumpet flower, coral honeysuckle, cardinal, painted cups, Oswego Tea and columbines attract the humming bird. Other flowers which entice the humming bird are fuchsias, nasturtiums, phloxes, pelargonium, cannas, salvia, gladioli and verbenas.

The Blue Cardinal Flower or Great Lobelia is found from Ontario to Dakota. Southwards it is found in Georgia and Kansas. Its botanical name is Lobelia syphilitica. It starts to flower in July and flowers till October. It grows well near the streams, in wet or moist soil. It produces flowers in different colors like bright blue or faded blue with a white tinge. The flowers are one inch in length and they sit on the summit of a straight, large leafy spine. The plant has a simple, stout, verdant and hairy look. The plant grows up to three feet. The leaves are pointed and oblong in shape. The leaves can be up to six inches in length and two inches in width. They are irregularly notched.

Lobelias have always attracted evolutionist because this flower provides some interesting connecting links. Their corolla is flattened and split on the upper side. This proves the inclination towards ray or strap flowers. Composites have confined these flowers for later development as against single tubular blossoms. Lobelias crowd along a stem and this serves to attract the bee which is passing by. The bee gets a large number of feeding places shut together.

It is not fair to compare the cardinal flower with the Great lobelia though both are often compared and referred as twin sisters. Both the flowers belong to the Lobeliaceae family. Most men love red and hence it is unfair to compare the great lobelia with its beautiful sister. The humming bird fertilizes red flowers including the Red Lobelia. The number of red flowers has declined over the years due to decrease in the number of humming birds. Bees love the blue lobelia though!

Cat crystal litters hygenic?

I like to give my cats lots of hugs and kisses. Recently I switched to crystal silica litter which supposedly lasts for 30 days. Is it sanitary to leave urine in a box for 30 days. Wouldn't there be bacterial and other microbial growth in there that may not be hygienic?

Here's the point. Your litter will be good for 30 days only if you scoop out daily what is clumped up. This is true of ANY clumping or super-absorbing litter. Maintenance is still required. A dirty litterbox can cause a cat to not use it or even worse, stress can cause all sorts of problems including renal failure and death from urine toxicity. Trust me, it happened to me. Now I still use the clumping litter, but I keep up on the scooping!

Why do Japanese that live in Japan are so healthy and have a long life?

Is it their health care, diet, exercise, or just genetics?

They tend to eat a diet based mainly around vegetables, rice, seaweed... etc. etc. ... things that are GOOD for you. They don't eat as much heavily processed foods or fat-filled fast food that we do eat here in the states. They also exercise more than we do.

Americans need to realize that you can't just eat whatever you want, sit on your bum, and then be healthy, or pop some pill to fix whatever ails 'ya.

Living in Japan is the best way to learn how to speak Japanese because you have the bonuses of having first hand experience of Japanese culture, the country and its people. But before you leave, you need to get your brain ready to take on Japanese and Japan. To lessen culture shock and fortify your acquisition of Japanese, it would be wise to learn to speak Japanese online simply because it is convenient and affordable. Plus the faster you can master the hiragana and katakana (two standard syllabaries that are used in the Japanese writing system), the faster you'll be able to grasp the reading and writing in the textbooks and hence jump start your learning.

Choosing a city depends on whether you're a city or a country person, or a bit of both. For those of you who enjoy the city and country life, Okazaki is the perfect city for you to learn Japanese fluently and experience Japan.

Okazaki is located in the eastern part of the Aichi Prefecture (district) in central Japan. It is about a 2-hour ride on the Shinkansen (bullet train) between both Tokyo and Osaka, and Kyoto and Mount Fuji. The main part of the city is bicycle friendly, and to the east are the many hills and the forests that cover them. Okazaki has milder overall temperatures compared to most of Japan, the spring and autumn months are the best times to visit. Also, Okazaki is not as populous as most other cities. The city has many outdoor recreation facilities and parks for the outdoor enthusiast. For those of you who are in need of more contemporary and urban stimulation, the city of Nagoya is only a 30-minute train ride away to the usual big city hustle, bustle, and exciting nightlife.

Okazaki is a prefect symbosis of the old and modern world, of the city and country. This enables you to experience traditional as well as contemporary Japan. Furthermore, despite its recent economic growth, Okazaki has being able to preserve its historical traditions and character. This is evident in the many famous shrines and temples such as the Takisan and Daijuji temples, and the renowned Okazaki Castle. The Okazaki castle was the birthplace of the famous Japanese military leader Tokugawa Iyeyasu. He was portrayed in James Clavell's novel Shogun based on historical figures and events of Japan in the 1600s. However, Okazaki is most famous for their fireworks. The city proudly showcases these fireworks with amazing firework displays during the three-day Summer Festival in August, which is attended by people nationwide.

Because Okazaki is smaller, it is cheaper to live in and accommodations that are close to the school/college are easier to find. In addition, Okazaki language colleges include free cultural workshops such as making arts with Washi (origami paper) and weekend excursions, such as trips to Kyoto, to visit and explore the old Imperial city. Or you could opt to plan your own excursions.

All work and no play make you a burned out student. So you should take advantage of using your free time to interact with the locals by:

· Checking out the Okazaki bars and restaurants that specialize in tempura or in fugu(blowfish) or udon and kishimen noodle dishes or the world famous Okazaki Hatcho miso soup that is known for its medicinal and health benefits.

· Checking out the Okazaki nightlife that offers many Karaoke bars and local Japanese lounges called izakaya where you can eat and drink.

Remember the best way to learn Japanese easily is in Japan. However, before you go you need to educate yourself with regards to its history, culture and etiquette, and at least learn basic Japanese. If you want the best of both worlds, then Okazaki is the ideal city to study Japanese. Okazaki offers you a chance to experience a truly Japanese experience without the often daunting "bigness" and fast-paced pulse of a city like Tokyo.

How far down should you clip your dog's nails??

And do they have to have special clippers or can I use regular ones that i use?????

If you can't see the quick, just slice off a bit from the end every few days. The quick will recede as the nail gets shorter allowing you to cut it without hitting the quick.

Humans have flat nails while dogs have round ones so, unless your dog has really tiny nails then you need to get one made for dogs. They are not expensive and last a long time. I like the scissors style as I can see more clearly what I am doing.

If you don't want to do it at all, you can take your dog to a groomers.

Here is an article with an illustration and some photos of dog trimmers. There is also an electronic clipper that supposedly senses the blood vessel so that you don't hit.

It helps to desensitize your dog to nail trimming by playing with nails (while feeding treats). Some dogs don't mind at all while other dogs must think you are going to cut their legs off.

Boxer dogs were developed from an old breed known as the Brabanter Bullenbeisser from Belgium, which was used to hunt wild boar. The Brabanters were cross-bred with the early version of the English Bulldogs in 1830, and the cross-breeding came up with the Boxers most of us adore nowadays.

Boxer dogs are very square-built and medium-sized, stand 21 to 25 inches high, and weigh 60 pounds more or less. They have expressive brown eyes and jaws very square with an undershot bite. Because they are born with large, droopy ear flaps and long thin tail, most breeders in the USA have their ears trimmed and taped to stand erect, and have the tail shortened.

These trimming of ears and shortening of tails of Boxer dogs has originated in Germany for the purpose of not letting the wild boars tear much flesh from them during the hunt. For this reason, their strong and a little menacing looks gave them the reputation of being guard dogs.

Although they are not-so-friendly with strangers, these dogs are affectionate and love to play around with their families. Boxers are also very energetic and playful to the point of creating their own entertainment that are not very pleasing to humans. The best thing to do in this situation is to give your pet an ample time of play and exercise until he is steamed off.

Surprisingly, despite of their rough looks, Boxer dogs are gentle with children. However, each dog is an individual, so proper training and supervision is necessary to make sure both your Boxer and your children get along with each other. What is funny about this breed is that they tend to believe that they were bred to be lap dogs, even if they become sixty-pound babies!

Any dog breed requires training including Boxer dogs. They are so energetic and powerful that owners need to give them obedience training to be able to control them. Obedience training should start on the pet's sixth month until the owner can work on getting him used to the leash.

Boxer dogs are very clean and only shed moderately, so a Boxer owner can make use of a nice brush that can remove little dirt from his coat and distribute the coat oils to give him a glossy sheen. They rarely need bathing, but you can wash their feet if the has been in the mud. Also check his nails once in a while and give a little clip if necessary.

Those menacing and strong looks might change your mind having Boxer dogs at home. Well, think again. Behind those not-so-friendly looks of a Boxer lies the sweetest, funniest, and most caring pet you have always wanted to be part of the family.

I'm thinking about installing an electronic doggy door. Do you have one and what as your experience been? Specifically, I'm wondering about how often it might malfunction and not open to let my dog in or out.

We had one & a skunk with rabies came into our house & sprayed my dad in the face & bit our cat!!!

Squirrels are cute, whimsical and fun to watch. However, squirrels can also be a pain in the butt. They can root up your bulbs, clean out your bird seed and get in your house.

But how can they be dangerous?

It's all because of two things: first, they get into your house, and two, they like to chew.

Squirrels move into your attic for a variety of reasons. Maybe it is near their food (since they like to live near their food) or maybe they need to make a nest to live (or have a family) or maybe it is because they found an opening into your attic - a place which is warm, dry and protected.

Well, it doesn't really matter why they are there. It's just that they are there.

This is a problem because squirrels love to chew. In fact it is a necessity for them to chew constantly and to chew anything. If they didn't, their teeth would grow too big for their mouths. So their natural bent is to chew and chew and chew.

Now consider this. If you have a squirrel living in your attic, what is it going to eat or chew? It may start by making a nest. Maybe you have some important papers or clothes in the attic. They would make a nice nest.

Now the squirrel needs some entertainment. So it might start chewing on your prized possession or antiques? (sometimes squirrels are not too picky in what they chew.)

Well, let's say you don't have anything like that in your attic. Even so, there are many more things it could start chewing and these are most likely something made from wood - like your floor, siding, studs, rafters,... (not cheap things to fix or repair).

What else is in most attics and is usually not very well concealed and sometimes laying right out in the open? Electric wiring!

Squirrels obviously don't know any better, so if it looks interesting or is in their way, they will chew it. Sadly, it is a known fact that many squirrels have chewed electrical wiring and have started many a house fire in the process. This is why allowing those cute critters in your attic is extremely dangerous.

The fear of having an attic fire should only be one concern of having squirrels in your attic. Attic squirrels are also bad because they can:

1.) make it easier to get into your main living area,

2.) if they have a family, your problems (like chewing) is mutiplied by 4 or 5 times,

3.) squirrels bring bugs, ticks or mites in your house which can spread into your living area, and

4.) their urine and feces can lead to health problems.

All this means is that you need to get rid of the squirrels (if they are there already) or prevent them from coming in (if they are not there yet.). The best way to start is to make sure all openings in your attic are properly closed. This will go a long way to keeping them out.
