All pet dogs should be treated as members of our family and adequate attention must be paid to the canine's health. Sometimes dogs become sick but may not look so. It is very important to recognize and understand dog illnesses symptoms.

Since prevention is a better cure, we must learn something about dog illnesses and symptoms so we can better understand their conditions. This will help us recognize some common dog illnesses. If appropriate and adequate vaccinations are administered to the puppies, most of the common dog illnesses can be easily prevented.

Some elementary observations are useful to recognize certain common dog illnesses. Dogs take a lot of sleep but their sleep is marked by alertness. If a dog is sluggish then there may be various causes contributing to it, right from anemia to old age. If the dog is limping then you should check for prospective painful areas using a firm and yet gentile hand. Check out for any signs indicating lameness from time to time.

The appetite of the dog is bound to be affected by ill health. Look for any signs of loss of appetite. An important sign of dog health problems is excessive thirst. A pronounced weight loss is also an indicator of ill health. Check the eyes for any ulcers, discharges, veins or sores.

The mouth of a healthy dog is pink. There should not be any discoloring or cavities in the teeth. Look for signs of discharge from ears. It is advisable to clean the ears from time to time. The dog's head should be regularly checked for sore patches, hair loss, or deep wounds.

Investigate the limbs and trunk for the same signs. If the dog is vomiting, there may be various underlying problems. If the body temperature of your dog is not between the range 38 to 39 Celsius it is an indication of some kind of illness. Check the female dogs for any kind of foul smelling vaginal discharge, which needs attention of a vet.

The symptoms of pain and discomfort experienced by a dog can give us many clues about the possible underlying illness. If the dog is suffering any abdominal pain, it may be due to canine hepatitis, enteritis or it can be a simple case of constipation. The abdominal swelling dogs indicate canine bloat and roundworms in puppies. Aggression of the dog may be caused by rabies. Roundworms, tapeworms, and whipworms my cause anemia in dogs. Any behavioral changes in dog can be an indicator of hookworms, tapeworms, whipworms, canine arthritis, heart disease, canine, or parvovirus.

Kidney diseases sometimes cause blood in urine. Eye infections and entropion cause bloodshot eyes in dogs. A ruptured diaphragm, obstructed airway, lungworm, bronchitis, pneumonia, food poisoning, heatstroke, allergies can cause respiratory problems in dogs.

There are various reasons of sudden change in weight of dogs like heart disease to heartworms. Hernia might be caused due to long term constipation in dogs. Allergies, parvovirus, hepatitis, lungworm, TB, pneumonia or distemper may be one of the reasons of coughing in dogs. Cannine parvovirus can also cause dehydration in dogs. Any pancreatic disorder, food poisoning can give rise to diarrhea in dogs. The dog may suffer from hair loss due to mange, red mange demodectic, scabies, cheyletiella mange, or cushings syndrome.

If dog indicates any signs of failing genital bleeding, persistent constipation, projectile vomiting, fainting, hair loss, seizure, stumbling, trauma, trembling, mouth bleeding, rectal bleeding, lethargy, shaking, urinating problems contact a dog care specialist.

Arthritis is where you have an inflammation of the joints. And in old age for dogs it means that the joints swell and become painful and stiff. Some of the things that can cause this problem are earlier injuries such as torn ligaments. Symptoms of arthritis are lameness particularly after first getting up from lying down and unwillingness to jump or go for long walks or even getting up. Dogs will suffer more in winter time as the joints tend to swell more.

Some ways in which you can manage arthritis are:

Weight Control: - Ensure that your dog is the correct weight for their breed and age. As the owner, you have control over what you feed your dog. Feed quality food in an amount appropriate for your dog's size, breed and activity level and keep treats to a minimum; your dog should be able to maintain an ideal weight. If your dog is overweight, seek the suggestion of your veterinarian regarding low calorie dog food and an exercise program.

Exercise: Make sure that your dog does get regular exercise in shorter sessions this is always better than long work-outs on weekends. Warming the muscles prior to exercise and following exercise with a "warm-down" period are beneficial. Daily exercise will ensure that they maintain their correct weight. Exercise that provides good range of motion and muscle building as well as limiting wear and tear on the joints is best. Leash walks, swimming, walking on treadmills, and slow jogging are excellent low-impact exercises. Keep in mind that whatever exercise program you select it should be individualized for each dog based on the severity of the arthritis, his weight, age, and physical condition. If in doubt consult with your veterinarian regarding an exercise program appropriate for your dog.

Sleeping areas: Cold and damp weather will aggravate the symptoms, keeping your dog warm, with a pet sweater and keep the temperature in the house a bit warmer. Providing proper dog bedding such as a orthopedic foam bed helps many dogs with arthritis. Beds with dome-shaped, orthopedic foam distribute weight evenly and reduce pressure on joints. They are also much easier for the pet to get out of. Place the bed in a warm spot away from drafts.

Massage therapy: Your vet can show you how to execute physical therapy and massage on your dog to help relax stiff muscles and encourage a good range of motion in the joints. Remember, your dog is in pain, so start slowly and build trust. Begin by petting the area and work up to gently kneading the muscles around the joint with your fingertips using small, circular motions. Gradually work your way out to the surrounding muscles.

Daily Routine: Climbing stairs becomes difficult for arthritic dogs; it can make going outside to urinate and defecate extremely hard. Dog owners will tend to build or buy ramps, especially on stairs leading to their yard, to make it easier for their dogs to go outside.

Don't let your beloved dog suffer from arthritis there are many things that you can do as a caring owner to help them manage their pain

There are many wireless dog fences in the market. Since there is no patent for a dog fence, these are manufactured with many variations and according to the developments introduced by them. However, with any of them, the dog owners can be guaranteed to get great results, though it is better to look at a variety for them for the best quality and the lowest prices.

There are a few points to consider before choosing a dog fence:
• You must know what kind of material is present in the dog fence. You should know what the manufacturer is offering you. Look at the cost and see if it is more than what others are offering for the same stuff.
• Decide upon the length of the fence. See how tall it is. If you have a big dog like a Great Dane, then opt for the taller ones.

The various types of dog fences are:
• The Wooden Slat Fence: This is also known as the picket fence and is very popular with the homeowners. While this traditional fence is attractive, it is very expensive. Also your pet can easily jump over it and escape.
• The Privacy Fence: These are good but have a few disadvantages. They are almost 6 feet tall and block your entire view. Since they are wooden, they are very expensive and the maintenance cost runs high.
• The Chain Link Fence: This is mostly used for the commercial dog runs. In this there are pipe posts for supporting the wire that is stretched between them.
• The Electric Dog Fence: This is perhaps the best fence and doesn’t even hamper your landscape view. What are the key components of the wireless pet fences that make these such an effective tool in training a dog? There are 3 main components of the entire system:
• A wireless transmitter
• The water proof collar which your pet wears
• A battery module that is water proof

Some people opt for enclosed dog runs. It is a great alternative to setting up the huge fence in your backyard, but did you know that the dog run has to be placed over a cemented area and should be inspected closely? There are chances that your dog might dig the enclosed dog run. Therefore the best alternative is the electric dog fence which will allow you a piece of mind. Even your dog has the freedom to run and roll in your yard and you can be rest assured that the pet is right there in front of your eyes.

What does a brand new pup need? If you just brought home a new doggy best friend, pull out pen and notebook so you can make a doggy needs list! Doggy babies are welcome additions to the family, but like children, they will require tons of their own stuff. Dog supplies wholesalers will be your new best friends as you buy and save things that your little mutt needs.

First on your purchasing itemizer is food. Young dogs need food specially made for their young bodies and energy levels. Because they are in motion all the time, bounding, and maturing, they need precisely the right mixture of meat products, starches, fats, vitamins, especially calcium and vitamin D for their changing bodies. You will find many alternatives offered by dog supplies wholesalers. Either kibbled or moist nutrients are suitable, so long as the baby is able to chew his way comfortably through the dry nuggets. A very young puppy who may have been abandoned will still need replacement milk, which you can find at wholesale dog supplies stores and online.

Next, where will your puppy sleep? A dog bed of her own from the very start will help your pet become used to leaving your bed and couch alone! Dog supplies wholesalers usually feature a huge array of choices in beds: snuggly fleece, warm flannel, cloth cushions. Make sure the bed is washable and will suit your dog’s size; if you have a Saint Bernard puppy, you may need more and more sizes as she grows!

Put playthings on that list, too. Pups have a born tendency to exercise those sharp little teeth. They will chew your shoes, your chair leg, tee shirt, anything they can get their jaws around. The best way to deal with chewing is to give your puppy entertaining playthings, like a rawhide chew. Some dog playthings are made to keep pups amused for a long while by challenging them to locate and snuffle out a small snack. Things they can retrieve like balls and Frisbees are all favorite choices that wholesale dog supplies companies offer in plentiful variety at fair prices.

What about clothes? Some types need clothing to guard against extreme cold; others decidedly do not. The miniature breeds like the Pekinese will likely need cover-ups and hats for their winter outings; a Great Dane, not so much except possibly in real extremes. Boots are, however, a different story. Because of the grit and chemicals that may be used to get rid of ice on sidewalks in the winter, dogs’ feet can be easily damaged. Boots are a good idea for any dog, whatever his size, and you can find every size at wholesale dog supplies sources. If you want to dress your pup in non-functional but fun and fashionable outfits from wholesale dog supplies sources, go right ahead! Just watch out for whether you are embarrassing them or not!

Pups need friendship and care. They will gaze at you with those big innocent eyes and say “love me.” Be sure you put “love” on the first line

Most people realize that any dog, no matter the size or breed has the potential to bite, whether it be another dog or a person. Dog bites are extremely common and often end up in court. There are some things you should know about how to avoid dog bites and possible legal action.

The first and most obvious thing is to know your dog's temperament and his or her tolerance for different stressful situations that could provoke a bite. Small dogs are actually just as likely to bite as a bigger dog. The main difference is the amount of damage caused by a small dog, versus the bite of a larger dog. Some breeds or breed mixes may be more prone to biting, not because they are a "vicious" breed, but because they were bred for a certain purpose. A herding dog, like a border collie, uses its mouth to move the animals its herding, so he may try to do that with a group of children. Hunting dogs have a high prey drive and may be likely to chase after other animals or small kids that are running around. Guard and protection dogs, may react to what they determine is a threat. In all these cases, proper socialization to other people and situations is crucial.

What would cause a dog to bite? It is usually a case of fight or flight because the dog feels stressed or threatened. A child playing with a dog may be teasing the dog without realizing it. A dog that is sick or in pain may also be likely to bite. There are warning signs to watch for that can help you avoid a dog bite. Aside from the dog growling and baring its teeth, a dog that is agitated will stiffen its body and tail. The hair on the dog's back often stands up and, if you can see the whites of the dog's eyes, this is a sign that he or she is ready to attack. The best thing to do in this situation is to slowly back away from the dog. Keep your eyes averted and your head lowered. This will signal submission and the dog may back down. Although it may seem like the best thing, do not turn and run away. This tells the dog that he should chase you. If it is possible, put something between you and the dog. You can even wrap your forearm in a jacket and use that to protect your head and neck.

A dog that is panting without his or her tongue hanging out is stressed. Other behaviors that could indicate a dog is feeling stressed or threatened include nervous actions like, shaking, biting his paw, sudden interest in self grooming or unusual interest in a familiar object. These actions are things to dog may do to avoid or distract itself from whatever is causing the agitation.

If you have a dog that can not be trusted to be around people without a threat of a biting incident, you should keep your dog separated from people, either by keeping him crated, or in a fenced area. If you need to take your dog out in public, to the vet for instance, use a muzzle on your dog.

If your dog bites someone, be as polite and accommodating as possible. Be apologetic and offer to get a copy of your dog's vaccination records. Offer to drive them to the doctor or hospital. Offer to pay or have your insurance pay the bills. Write down the name of the victim, when and where it happened, and what the person and the dog were doing at the time of the incident. If there were any witnesses to the incident, get their names and contact information in case there is a lawsuit.

With some knowledge and care, dog bites can usually be avoided. They are traumatic for everyone involved. You must be a responsible dog owner to protect people and other animals from your dog, and protect you and your dog from the consequences of a dog bite situation.

Their eyes are bulgy and their snouts are short with a slightly upturned nose. They have a charming, goofy look to them at times. Most Boston Terrier owners were drawn in by these unique facial characteristics, even though their small muzzles are the cause of many health problems.

Dogs with such short muzzles are referred to as Brachycephalic. Other dogs in this category include English Bulldogs, Boxers, and Pugs. Brachycephalic dogs are prone to reverse sneezing, snoring, and wheezing. Many owners enjoy and are amused by the silly sounds their pug-nosed dogs make, but sometimes this audible breathing can be indicative of a far greater problem. While the little snores and sneezes can be quite charming, the sounds are actually a result of an respiratory system that is not ideally designed. Due to the nature and build of their small heads, Boston Terriers often have shorter airways and elongated palates that can cause breathing difficulty. Boston Terriers were bred specifically to have these aesthetically desirable little heads and small muzzles, but at the expense of their potential health. Not ever Boston Terrier or every Brachycephalic dog will suffer from any or all of these conditions, but it is good to remain educated on the subject so that you can recognize a problem arising in your dog as early as possible.

A number of Brachcyephalic dogs will end up suffering from a problem called "stenotic nares," which is a scientific way of saying small nostrils. As one might expect, having irregularly small nostrils will make it very, very difficult to breathe for a dog. "Tracheal stenosis" is a similar problem in that the trachea is too narrow for air to pass through easily. In the most severe cases of both of these problems, the dog will require surgery to widen the breathing cavities.

Another symptom attributed primarily to Brachycephalic dogs is the soft palate being elongated. The Soft palate is what separates the mouth from the nose in the back of the throat, and when it is too long it can hang down and block the travel of air. This will cause more audible breathing sounds, such as snorts or snores. Over time you should adjust to the constant snorts and will even grow to love them. Many people find their Boston Terriers breathing endearing.

As if these problems weren't enough for the poor Boston Terrier to deal with, the breed is also prone to heat stroke, much like the rest of their Brachycephalic brethren. Because of the shape of their face and respiratory system, it is more difficult for them to pant, and thus harder for them to cool themselves naturally. To avoid risk of heat stroke, always make sure your pet has plenty of cool water to drink and is not left unattended in warm places. It's also a good idea not to let them run to much on a hot day. Like Labradors, Boston Terriers will exhaust themselves to the point it causes harm to their bodies. As long as you keep a close eye on your Boston, he or she will be perfectly fine.

Dog destructive chewing is variable for every dog. You have some dogs that love to chew everything, yet there are other dogs who do not enjoy chewing.

Listed below are three reasons why some dogs chew:

- Dogs generally have a natural desire to chew, especially if it is something really good like a bone. However, some dogs will chew on anything, like pencils, shoes and rocks!

- Chewing provides relief for anxious or nervous dogs

- Dogs who do not get enough exercise often chew to get rid of nervous energy

So how do you stop destructive chewing?

1. Make sure that you dog-proof your home just like you would when a new baby is in the home. Put your things away, keep food put up and take care in making sure there are no temptations for your doggie.

2. Refrain from giving your dog your old personal items to chew on as this only serves to confuse the dog. They will not understand what is off limits.

3. Provide your dog with alternatives. Buy her bones, toys and other dog friendly items to take the place of your prized possessions.

4. Be sure you are spending time watching over your dog so that you can correct any bad behavior while it is happening.

5. Come up with a sound (clapping, for example) that you can use when you catch your dog chewing on something bad. Do not spank or yell, as this will just scare the dog and lose the lesson of the moment. Instead, have a spray bottle with water or clap to let the dog know that this is a wrong action.

Above all, be patient and love your dog. You can take care of dog destructive chewing if you spend time doing the right things. Dog destructive chewing can be so irritating! I really loved reading about the "5 Myths of Dog Training" at this website: DOG TRAINING CHEWING. And it was FREE!

The main thing about dog care and dog grooming is the benefits are enormous, from the happiness and health of your dog to the enjoyment and saving made by you, these are just a couple of examples, and below is an extract from a chapter entitled ‘The Benefits of Grooming’ from The Perfect Dog Grooming Guide by Alan Brown which I feel shows the benefits that can be gained through grooming and dog care, some of which are too easily overlooked or underrated by many dog owners;

The first thing I would like to drawer your attention to, and to end any rumors that you may have heard is that grooming your dog does improve their health in many ways which we will mention a little more through this chapter. As well as this benefit you will also find that your relationship with your dog and the affection they show you will be somewhat increased. Also through grooming your dog you will come to know them better and have the opportunity to spot possible health issues that may have gone unnoticed previously.

So let us break these benefits down a little and go through them piece by piece; reverting to the health benefits we mentioned, firstly when we think dog care and grooming we immediately think of brushing our dog so let´s start there. When you brush your dog you remove all the dead hair from their coat, leaving only the healthy, this eliminates many of the bad odors emitted by your dog’s coat, as well as helps to keep them cooler, looks cleaner and reduces your dogs scratching and itching.

To make grooming your dogs coat easier and to help maintain the goodness reached through grooming it is advisable to bathe your dog and use a quality dog shampoo regularly – although you must pay attention to over bathing your dog, like humans you can easily strip the natural oils from the coat and reduce the healthiness that way. We mentioned dog shampoo, and that was deliberately mentioned, as human shampoo contains different ingredients and must not be used on our poets under any circumstances.

Another benefit of grooming or brushing the coat is the stimulation it causes to the blood flow which in turn increases and improves the blood supply to the hair follicles and aids the overall health of the dog’s coat. Also brushing has a similar effect as massage and can aid the stimulation of the lymphatic node which is another means of improving your dog’s health, and we shall cover this a little more in another chapter.

Grooming also consists of dental hygiene and care of the eyes and ears…

This shows how dog care is not only good for your dog, but for you also, and you can benefit a whole lot more from the content of The Perfect Dog grooming Guide which can be seen at www.Perfect-Dog-Grooming.com.

The Yorkshire Terrier is one of the smallest and cutest breeds of dog available today, and as such as experienced a massive rise in popularity. These dogs are highly sought after and enjoyed by singles and families alike. If you are considering getting a Yorkshire Terrier puppy or adult dog, it is important to recognize the chores that go along with owning such a breed, like grooming needs.

Yorkshire Terriers are interesting in that they do not have an undercoat. Because of this, they barely shed and are considered hypoallergenic breeds of dog. The lack of an undercoat and the style of their long, silky hair makes their fur feel a lot like the hair on the head of a human. Yorkies come in many coat varieties, all multicolored. The color combinations can include any variety of black, tans, golds, browns, and blues.

The most important aspect of grooming your Yorkshire Terrier is developing a regular brushing schedule. Since their hair is so long, it is prone to getting tangled, as tangles can turn into matting which can in turn cause your dog lots of discomfort. Acquiring the proper brushes and combs are the first step in grooming a Yorkie. You must find a long-toothed metal comb and a thin pin brush, both of which you will use to get through tangles on your dog's coat. These types of brushes and combs are necessary, as bristle brushes or other types of brushes can actually break your Yorkies coat or irritate the skin. Brushing and combing with the proper tools will instead stimulate blood flow to the skin and keep your Yorkie's coat shiny and healthy. When brushing and combing your Yorkshire Terrier, you will want to mist their coat lightly with water or heavily diluted conditioner to prevent breakage of the hair. Depending on your Yorkie's activity level, brushing should occur every day to every other day in order to prevent tangling.

Some Yorkshire Terriers are more active outside than others. For owners that primarily keep their dogs indoors, such as owners who live in high-rise buildings and use potty pads in lieu of regular walks, it is unlikely that your dog will need frequent bathing. For those who like to bring their Yorkies to the park and let them get a little messy while they play, bathing more often may be necessary. Your local pet store probably carries a wide selection of doggie shampoos and conditioners. Natural version are best, as Yorkies can have very sensitive skin. Keep the water lukewarm when you are bathing your terrier, as their skin is very susceptible to the elements and they cannot handle extreme hot or cold temperatures as well as we humans can so be careful not to burn them or give them the shakes. Bathing your Yorkshire Terrier is good for their health for the most part, but owners must be careful not to over-bathe their dogs as it can strip the fur of essential oils and lead to dry skin and other irritations.

Every time you walk through the door your dog is so happy to see you that he wags his tail and virtually smiles at you. How can you show you're pet how much they mean to you? Well, one way is to think about that smile for your pet. Did you know that your dog's diet can influence their oral health and teeth?

Humans need to brush and floss their teeth regularly to keep their teeth, tongue, and gums in good condition. Research has recently shown a link between good oral health in humans and a lower risk of heart disease. If good oral health can have such a profound affect on people, then it only makes sense to consider the impact it can have on man's best friend.

It is important to brush your dog's teeth frequently to keep plaque and tartar from becoming an issue. Even wiping his gums with a clean, damp cloth can be beneficial.

Your dog's diet also plays a role in your pet's oral health. Do you typically feed your dog canned or dry dog food? What kind of treats and toys do you provide for your pet? All of these things can affect the likelihood of trouble with your pet's teeth.

When your dog's diet is nutritionally sound, containing essential vitamins, nutrients, and enzymes, your pet's oral health will be at its very best. Feeding dry dog food rather than a moist canned variety is best for your dog. The tiny kibbles' hard surface rubs against the teeth to remove and reduce plaque. The simple act of moistening the dry dog food with water or gravy eliminates this property from dry dog food.

The treats you give your pet are part of your dog's diet just like snacks are part of a person's diet. As humans, we tend to want to overlook our snacking habits, so it can be easy to overlook the treats you give your dog. This is not a good idea. Carefully consider any and all items your dog will consume.

Do you give your dog bones, rawhides, jerky treats, or dog biscuits? Maybe your pet prefers greenies or corn starch chews. You may not have considered it, but tossing Spot a rawhide chew is like giving him a candy bar. The rawhide, for example, contains calories and is often provided between meals.

Many of the treats and snacks you provide in your dog's diet can be just empty wasted calories. Some treats, alternatively, provide excellent opportunity to improve their oral health and teeth. Greenies, rawhides, bones, and hard dog biscuits all help to keep tartar at bay. The softer snacks, such as jerky treats, do not provide much relief from plaque. The healthy treat, on occasion, will also prevent your dog from having bad breath.

Your dog's diet must be healthy to ensure good oral health. Dry dog food is best whenever possible. Don't forget to select treats for your pet that will enhance your dog's diet. Consciously monitoring your dog's diet will positively influence your best friend's teeth and oral health.

Have you ever wondered how that "very right dog" should look like? There is no perfect profile, no ideal pattern and no super-dog. You just trust your first instinct and pick up the one you felt most connected to, from the moment you both first met. Choosing a puppy from the dog litter is not exactly an easy task. Ok.

So, let's say that you've already did some searching here and there, you found the right breeder and now you're standing in front of a litter. You cannot possibly decide which one you like most, what puppy should you bring home, what color, what size and the questions keep coming into your head.

First, you should know that dogs have strong personalities. Some are playful, some are not, some are dynamic, some are lazy, lying and snoring down on the floor all day long. As a future pet owner, you're supposed to pay extreme attention to this main question: what kind of dog would you like to take care of? Or, why not, what kind of "living toy" would be the best birthday gift ever for your kid? Second, is there enough space in your home, unless you have a large yard for those breed who are simply born to sprint all day long? These are the greatest concerns one should be aware of when speaking of a healthy and playful dog care.

No matter what breed you brought into your home, any extra effort has its own special meaning. Once it becomes your best pal, a dog will stand by your side everytime you need company after a busy day at work. Indeed, a puppy obeys but can be stubborn too. So, talking to a certified tamer is surely an option, when it comes about doggish behavior that cannot be controlled any longer.

If your dog starts barking for no reason, attacks your quests everytime they get close to your doorway or ties up your feet with its leash - that could be a warning signal for you and your dog to get professional assistance. Yes, you heard right! It's not just about the dog, masters too need discipline, if they want to get along with their four-legs-partners! In this case, a dog tamer is nothing but the most inspired choice.

It is not a shame to go and see a specialist. Your friend may be noisy, annoying and even disturbing for your private moments of silence. So, if you really feel like this dog, the chosen one, is going to be an important family member from now on, you should first monitor his daily habits, assume responsibility for his innocent pranks and prevent the worst as an adult dog by training him as a puppy.

Think about it like this. How many times have you really enjoyed your pet pooch being by your side? Isn't some of the frustration you have worth the joy of having a reliable pet by your side? These animals were given to us to enjoy and take care of. That in itself is quite rewarding don't you think?

A Spanish Mastiff, or Mastin Espanol, descends from the same blood lines as a Neapolitan Mastiff, which hails from the ancient Molosser dogs which existed around 2000 B.C. The Phoenicians brought the breed into Spain via trade routes and the Spanish Mastiffs were originally used as sheep herding and guard dogs, defending livestock from potential predators.

Today, a Spanish Mastiff is still being used for the same intended purposes it was in the past and in Estremadura, it is considered a native dog. A Spanish Mastiff is quite a powerful dog with a protective nature, the coat comes in a large variety with colorful variations.

Like most other large breed dogs, a Spanish Mastiff is not prone to obvious displays of strength. The dog has a calm, alert manner and is capable of raising an alarm when it feels threatened. A Spanish Mastiff is naturally a quiet dog and will not attack unprovoked.

The breed is great with other animals, including felines and loves to be in the presence of its family. The dog enjoys being around people and will work hard to please. A Spanish Mastiff is also highly protective of young children, but is capable of displaying aggression if is senses the children are in danger. For this reason, it is highly advisable to watch your dog in the presence of strangers.

A Spanish Mastiff is also a great guard dog and does not bark unless there is a specific reason. However, when the dog does bark, it is loud and gets attention, you will be able to hear your dog even if he or she is a great distance away from you. A Spanish Mastiff is both noble and attentive, very serious about its duties and displays large amounts of patience and easily adapts to any type of climate conditions.

A Spanish Mastiff does not require a large amount of grooming or exercise. The dog is a great family companion, guarder of livestock and displays great potential for use in search and rescue missions. A Spanish Mastiff will go to any means needed to protect its family, home and other animals from eminent danger. Spanish Mastiff breeders can be found predominantly in Germany and Switzerland. However, today the breed is also common in the United States and other countries as well. The dog is also regularly shown at international dog competitions.

Like with most other large dog breeds, a Spanish Mastiff has a tendency toward being sedentary, needing only a small to moderate amount of exercise. When you decide to own a Spanish Mastiff, you should also be mindful of its tendencies to drool, slobber and snore loudly. The life expectancy of Spanish Mastiff is approximately 10 years in duration and it is highly prone to hip dysplasia and gastric difficulties.

When you own a Spanish Mastiff, you need to make sure the dog never overexerts itself from too much running, jumping or climbing when its young. This is because Spanish Mastiffs grow rather quickly and need to conserve energy for rapid bone, muscle and tendon growth. When a Spanish Mastiff reaches adulthood, regular exercise will ensure the dog enjoys a healthy and fit life.

Pugs, like any human or other animal, can have allergies. You can learn how to avoid allergens and how to deal with any allergies that happen to keep your pet happy and healthy. Some of the basic things you need to be aware of are chocolate, allergies to chemicals and food, and also seasonal allergies. Being mindful of things that might cause allergies in your Pug is the first step in combating the problems.

A Chocolate Free Diet:
Pugs just like any other dog should never have chocolate. Aside from making a dog uncomfortable, chocolate is actually toxic to them. This is just not because of a concern for health problems due to gaining weight or from consuming too much sugar. Consuming chocolate can lead to major problems and cause your pet to die. Chocolate may taste like a piece of heaven to us, but to a dog it is poisonous. You need to keep chocolate away from your dog at all costs. Some people believe it is okay to give them a little bit, but it is never okay.

Food and Chemical Allergies:
Food and chemical allergies are sometimes not specific allergies. They may happen over a period of time due to certain foods or chemicals in the environment. These allergies are much harder to pinpoint because they may develop an allergic response that can mimic almost anything. The main concern is taking care of your Pug, and of course to check with your veterinarian if any problems result. If your dog tends to get sick after visiting certain places or eating certain things, you should pay attention to see if you can narrow down the cause and get your dog back to optimum health again.

Allergy Season:
Just like human beings, Pugs can also suffer from seasonal allergies. Having allergies is no fun for humans or dogs so it is a good idea to take care of any symptoms as quickly as possible so your dog can be comfortable. Otherwise your Pug may suffer from itchiness as well as a plethora of other symptoms. The best way to handle allergies is to get a veterinarian/dermatologist who can take a look at the symptoms and formulate a treatment plan. This may include taking antihistamines, using special shampoos or even taking steroidal medications. The point is to get the symptoms under control so you can both get back to enjoying life again.

Allergies can pose a big problem with Pugs if for no other reason than they cannot always be identified quickly. Allergies include chocolate, allergies to something they ingest and whatever they might come into contact with during the course of the day and regular seasonal allergies as well. Being vigilant and taking care of these allergies requires stopping them as quickly as possible and might even save your dogs life. A trip to the vet may seem expensive, but could very well be worth the money if it ends up saving your dogs life. Some breeds require more health care than others and the Pug just happens to be one of those breeds.
