Is this an aquarium or terrarium? easy question?

My mother thinks that this is a "terrarium" and cannot hold water for fish, etc.
Could you identify whether this is an aquarium or terrarium, and whether it holds water or not?

By the look of the custom made effort i wouldn't trust that in my house with a few gallons, let alone 60 odd!!!

I would say this was a terrarium not an aquarium.

There are thousands of fish out there that could make their home in your aquarium, and out of those species, hundreds are common. However, not all those fish are good for a beginner's tank. Many require complex habitats or don't live well with other fish. Choosing the right one can be pretty tricky. After all, if you get the wrong combination of fish, the overall health of your tank could really suffer. Here's a look at some of the common fish that are good for beginner aquariums, and the ones that should be avoided until you have a little more experience.

Beginner fish should be easy to take care of and feed, able to live in a variety of water conditions, attractive looking, hardy, and relatively peaceful. Platies, loaches, barbs, danios, rainbow fish, and many others are great choices, with some slightly more difficult fish like cichlids being acceptable as well.

Schooling fish are very popular because of their entertaining behavior. These include the tetras, from Africa and South and Central America, as well as the barbs and danios from Asia. Schooling fish are often brightly colors and sport complex patterns, which help them maintain their schools and maneuver effectively. However, if you're getting schooling fish, you can't collect just one or two. These fish get extremely stressed if you keep them alone or in a pair. Several other fish of their species are required - buy schooling fish in groups of six or more to keep them happy and healthy.

Likewise, you should avoid pairing docile, non agressive fish with more aggressive, territorial species. Aggressive fish can make more placid animals miserable and frightened, may bite at and tatter their fins, and may even kill and eat other inhabitants of their tank. It's important to make sure all your fish can get along. After all, a lot of fish together displaying cooperative natural behaviors are much better than mixed groups that are constantly unhappy. They'll live longer and be much easier to care for, too.

Of course, there are some fish that beginners should avoid, even though they might be attractive or recommended by some. Mollies are poor beginner fish, for instance. They need a lot of space, which means a bigger tank with fewer fish than most beginners want to keep, and they're very sensitive to the condition of their water. That means careful monitoring of the water in the tank, which is hard for most people just getting started in the hobby.

Cichlids are another fish that, unless you're careful and know what you're doing, don't make great beginner choices. Some of them are relatively docile and easy to keep, but over all, these really hardy fish are territorial and quite aggressive. Those who do want to keep cichlids should pay close attention to the species they choose, and provide plenty of rocks for the fish to take cover and establish their territories. Don't keep smaller or less aggressive fish with them, either.

Bettas, also called Siamese fighting fish, are another poor choice for beginners who want a community aquarium. While these fish do well in largely undisturbed water all on their own (sometimes in small groups of females), they don't get along well with others. Plus, your average aquarium is too deep for them and too well circulated for a fish that evolved to live in broad, shallow areas of water. Bettas can die a long, slow death in a community aquarium.

Kissing gouramis, a type of fish that often locks lips in pairs, are popular with hobbyists. But what you need to know is that gouramis aren't kissing because they're feeling friendly. Instead, they're being aggressive. They grow larger than most beginners are willing to deal with, and they can harass smaller fish. In a big tank with lots of space, they aren't as much trouble. If you're set on gouramis, make sure you have the room and tank setup for them.

You may be surprised by it, but goldfish are also a poor choice for a tropical community aquarium. These fish are related to carp, and they won't stay small for long. Goldfish live for decades, and can get as long as your forearm. Plus, they produce a lot of waste for their size, meaning that for every goldfish you have, you could have two or more other fish.
