Where is the best place to buy driftwood for an aquarium?
I have a 110 gallon tank and the demensions are.
48"long
18" wide
24" tall
Where can i get it the cheapest? And also i need a stand, ive been thinking about building one from scratch also ive seen some cool looking ones just made from cinder blocks. I have another question you can see my video of my tank on there. Thank you!
(Please no idiot remarks or stupid answers)
I bought my driftwood from a website called http://www.aquariumguys.com/
It took about ten days, but they were fairly cheap. The wood is good and I only had to soak it for about two hours to get all tannins out.
As for the stand, I'm not sure if you want an actual stand. I've always used strong tables for my stands.
There are a large amount of factors that need to be considered when setting up a discus fish tank. Essentially, discus fish need extremely clean water, but you also have to remember the temperature of the water, the pH levels and quantity of heavy metals ammonia, nitrites and nitrates.
Some discus fish authorities counsel using a reverse osmosis filtration unit in your discus fish tank. Although it actually is advantageous, it is not altogether a necessity. Maybe the most important reason not to put one in your tank is the price tag factor, as these units can cost tons of bucks.
When first setting up your discus tank, you may wish to add a water conditioner to the tap water that you'll doubtless be using. Something along the lines of Tetra Aqua Save Water Conditioner will do the job of taking out the chlorine and other chemicals from the water that's ordinarily found in tap water, but isn't healthy for fish, as they prefer softer water.
When you are considering the tank that you are going to use, you need to consider that discus like a bigger tidy area to live in. This is necessary to the health and contentment of your fish as it'll be stressed without sufficient space as they are extremely active and a fun fish to have. The best thing to do is to really buy about the most largest tank that your housing conditions and budget will permit.
Discus fish are different from the other fish usually kept because they do far more than just eat and hide from you. They are satisfied and active creatures who will engage with their owners.
It is however critical that some thought goes into their care to keep them this way. Placement of your aquarium is a vital factor. Try to get a place that does not get too much direct daylight as this could cause too much plant expansion and scale back the oxygen concentration in the tank. You do not want to put the tank somewhere that gets too much traffic either. Discus fish while friendly and frolicsome are shy if they are not assured in their environment and too much outside movement will lead them to become shy and hide and not be as frolicsome.
If you are only using your discus fish tank for viewing versus breeding, you can place some decorations in there with your pet, but watch out about what kinds you put in there. Rocks on the base of the tank are fine, but check with your pet store or dealer to ensure that the rocks you select do not have a sufficiency of heavy metals in them.
Also keep away from the small mermaid and plastic castle decorations. Instead, employ a piece of driftwood, for this can come nearer to mimicking their environment and make them more at ease. If you opt to use plants in your discus fish tank, go natural and stick with real live plants versus the more popular plastic ones. This could make your discus fish feel more at home.
