how can i siphon out a dirty fish tank without inhaling any sick water?

i have a really gross fish tank and need to siphon it but don't have a hand pump and hate in hailing water especially gross water!

There is absolutely no need to suck on the siphon hose in order to start a siphon. Just fill the hose with water (I do this by immersing the hose completely in the tank), then block off one end of the hose with your thumb and keep the other end underwater in the tank. Take the end you have your thumb on and put it into the bucket (or whatever you're draining water into), with that end of the hose lower than the end that's in the tank. Release your thumb from the end of the hose, and the siphon will start automatically. When you want to stop siphoning, just raise the outlet end of the hose (the end that was in the bucket) up above the water level in the tank, and the siphon will stop.
