do i need a thermometer for coldwater fish?

It has been very hot lately and i was wondering if i need a thermometer for my coldwater fish just to manage how hot and cold their water is? for example if it was a really hot day i could add some cold water to the tank. Should i get a thermometer for coldwater fish or isnt it necessary?

You don't necessarily need a thermometer, but it won't hurt to have one so that you know what the temp in the tank is. Coldwater fish technically can survive short periods of warmer water, but shouldn't be kept in tropical setups long-term, since it will shorten their lifespan due to the stress on their systems.

The thermometer should also be a submersed one because they are usually more accurate and if you are keeping tropical fish the temperature of the tank water is of the utmost importance.
